Paul Podlucky, nice hairstyles for those ladies who wear their hair straight. I like the short one.

I wear my hair very short nearly clean shaved. It’s naturally curly. It has bursts of white at the front. It’s quite lovely. I love it!

My List

Dreadlocks (short, medium or long) Some hairstylists can create lovely styles.

Twists

Short( natural or nearly clean shaved)

Cornrolls

Braided (with or without extensions)

Short (curly or straight)

Shoulder Length Hair or longer(curly or straight)

For years, I have been trying to grow what Whoopie Goldberg used to refer to in her one-woman show as "long, luxurious hair". Nature tried to warn me that my baby-fine, pin-straight locks were not meant for the Rita Hayworth, Veronica Lake mane, but I wasn’t listening. Then I dyed my hair red, and also cut it into a choppy, piecy look like the one pictured in your article. Wow! What a difference. Easy to care for, fun to play with (bangs one day, side-swept another, spiky another), and best of all, I actually started to feel comfortable about my mop instead of bemoaning my fate. Just think of all the woman-hours that have been spent agonizing over hair, when the right color, cut and style options are out there. Thanks, Paul - hope to see much more from you on wOw!

Do you know how long it takes to grow out bangs? No thank you.  And why not show some readily purchasable accessories with the "where" and "how much."  Not just Goodie grocery clamps.  I may even get a faint hairnet and go all ballerina bobby pinned this summer.

[sigh] I believe my request may seem far fetched; however, besides articles about white women learning black women’s hair, can we get some summer hairstyles for women of color??

And ohhhh my goodness…please understand that African American women are NOT the only women of color!!

I’m certain there are women, of many demographics, who visit this site on a regular basis.

The ‘good ol girls club’ vibe is stifling; however, I still enjoy the articles. That’s all that matters, right? Site traffic? *smirk*

Hi Chloe,

So what demographic(s) are you referring to when you say "women of color"? Here in Albuquerque "women of color" would include Latinas and Native Americans, and while I personally believe their hair is typically much more beautiful and luxurious than most white women’s hair, it’s still suited to the same hairstyles that white women would sport. What kind of hairstyles would you like to see directed towards women of color?

Please enlighten us! … Podlucky’s hair slide show focused on straight hair. I introduced my personal list because not all women were included  specifically African American women. I also took into consideration African American women who wear their hair straight.

In the Hispanic, Asian and Native American communities you have women with straight, kinky and curly hair. My list is inclusive. Women of all ethnicity’s can wear some of the styles I listed.

What "good ol girls club" vibe are you referring to?

For the first time in my life I am without bangs.  I donated to locks of love a year ago and am loving my one length hair.  I honestly don’t want to go back to layers right now.

My focus on hair is getting a great cut. That styles my hair after a shampoo. I just let it dry and then add some texture with a goop and it looks great. It’s so easy to take care of that way. It never fails looking good.
