I live in Arizona……it’s very HOT here in summer. "Mad dogs and Englishmen…etc, etc."

Lizzie, "Mad dogs and Englishmen …" LOL!

My best girlfriend lives in Gilbert, and says in addition to the heat, the monsoons are coming soon!

Best,

Me too, Lizzie. Right now it’s blowing in a storm.,.. I mean BLOWING. The dog is in a panic. She hates wind, and this is very strong. I had to go out and rescue the garabage can that wasn’t picked up. But I think it’s better a little cooler than the 102’swe’ve had while I’m trying to pack everything in a full house and move to a small apartment. It’s going to be a fun squeeze! Thank goodness for good friends helping. I didn’t know I even had such friends.

Hello Lizzie, I was born in Yuma. Try using pepperment soap, as long as your not alergic to it. Peppermint soap will cool you down big time without using an airconditioner. Try washing your hands and lower arms with it to check it out. Best wishes to staying cool…………

i cannot be in the sun because of my lupus. gives me huge migraines and makes me faint from heat exhaustion. so sometimes it’s sitting in front of the swamp cooler, sitting in the kiddie pool in the shade or laying down on the bed in front of the fan snoozing. also going shopping, seeing a movie or going to an air conditioned mall.

How a City Worker Saw me in the Nude

or - What I Don’t Do to Cool Off in the Heat - anymore

Last year during the summer, instead of driving in to the office every day, sometimes I stayed home and worked in the "home" office. That way I didn’t have to get fully dressed. Much more comfortable.

I was very careful to throw on something before I went out to get the mail. Now, my kitchen windows are open - no window treatments of any kind - and what I didn’t expect, upon going to the kitchen to get a glass of iced tea, was that upon turning around, I would be facing a City worker who had been trimming bushes on the other side of my backyard glass fence.

I still drink a lot of iced tea in the summer. But if I am home, I am fully clothed.

And rumor has it that Henry––I think that’s his name––is still talking about it. It was the big buzz down at the City Worker’s hangout. Lovely how we can make someone’s day just that easy.

Phyllis,

Yes, for a while there I had the best manicured shrubs in our Association! LOL! … You’re too fun. (That’s one of the reasons you’re on my Dinner Guest A List, right?!)

By the way, I don’t know if you are clicking on the "reply" button when you send back messages to me, or not. I’m not getting any "reply alerts" in my e-mails. I guess I’ll check with WOW to see if I need to update my request to receive alerts. Bye,

I’ve had skin cancer from burns as a child so I avoid the sun at all costs.  but I LOVE going to the OCEAN.  It’s a three hour drive and instead of using the ac in the car I open all the windows, turn the cd player up full blast and enjoy.  I’ve got my cooler, umbrella, and beach seat.  before entering the water I put on a ton of sun screen and swim and jump the waves like I was ten years old again.

I avoid the pool where I live because of all the young children and parents who don’t give a darn, they have this stuff they put in the pool so you’ll know when  a tot’s gone weewee in the pool, so I stay away from public pools.

but the OCEAN, it’s okay, the waves move constantly and you don’t have to worry about it.  Plus the salt water is good for your skin, and sand is great for your feet, you won’t have to get a pedicure after a few days walking on the beach.

And at nite there’s nothing as romantic as walking on the beach, the wind in your hair and you can do it alone and enjoy it, and it’s still romantic, who say’s you need someone with you on a  star lite night taking a walk on the beach.

I like swiming at night, but not in the ocean that has to be done in a lake :) No jaws in a lake, lol.

You can also go to the mountains, the breeze, senery, fresh air, and it might be 110 in the sun but in the mountains it’s going to be a whole lot less.

Live near San Francisco and it is cool in summer and not many mosquitos so it is a great climate.  However, everything turns brown in July from lack of water and then we have a few really hot days.  What throws people who visit Golden Gate Park is that it can get REALLY cold after 3 p.m. when the fog starts to roll in and they cant wait to get back downtown where its warmer.  Leave SF and go about 10 miles and it is much warmer.  So I just stay where its cool.

AC certainly is nice in 92 degree humid Minnesota and the entertaining lunatic antics of that madcap Michelle Bachmann are always a fun way to ease into the day .

I just can’t imagine you in the same state as Michelle Bachman.  What a hoot.

I saw a wonderful Chinese Painting show at the Huntington Library and Gardens last week. "Treasures Through Six Generations - Chinese Painting and Calligraphy from the Weng Collection."  I was very fortunate when I was at USC studying Chinese because one of my teachers was a famous calligrapher and and begged and cajoled him to teach me calligraphy.  I remember doing dots for hours and hours, and then a single line until I understood "a little" as he put it.  Anyway, there was the most beautiful scroll that was all calligraphy.  Several different styles and I am telling you it almost made me want to weep.   A few weeks ago at the Getty I saw an exhibition on Japanese gold laquer boxes and chests.  I did weep.
