OK, I just thought of that but my brain works better late at night. Not that much better, but … . My beautiful watch is part of me, but long ago a company called West Bend put out a truly beautiful small kitchen timer that was not only good looking but could be timing three different things at once. No longer available - probably a relic of another time - it remains a prized possession. I set it at night with the least effort - 2 seconds - and it is off and running, dying to wake me up precisely on time. While reading books, time escapes me as I confess that I am an addict to the written word. One press and this small object not far from my side alerts me that my time is up in a rather appealing little beep that can be turned off with the slightest touch. Vacation wake-ups? I am never quite sure if you can trust the hotel’s morning call. . but my tiny gadget has never been anything but true to the minute.
There are a few things in life that I treasure - but my three-way kitchen timer is like a trusted friend of many years, never to be replaced.
Not necessarily. Not if you look at the polls as gathering marketing type materials. As the world changes so does advertising. I’ve thought several times over the last five years that "watches" could go by the wayside here some day. Especially for the younger than me generation. I’m 45.
Agreed, Chrome Toe. I’ve seen the same polls and it seems that wristwatches are being replaced by cell phones and other electronic devices. I guess the younger generation prefers a quick reference, digital display. I remember when my nephew was young (nearly 20 years ago now), I refused to give him a digital watch because I wanted him to learn first. Now, he always has his cell phone in hand, but I’ve never see him wearing a watch.
As for me, if I forget my watch anytime I leave the house, I’ll feel like I’ve forgotten something all day and inevitably, I’ll fail to regulate my time as well as I should. When I’m home though, I rarely wear a watch. I usually look at my computer for the time. If home, away from my desk, and busy with other things, I rely on our cuckoo clock for the turn of the hour and wonderful grandfather clock that keeps me apprised as to the hour of the day!
Digital, digital, digital… I hate digital clocks of any kind. They give you such a limited view of the time. It makes you think about how much time is left, or how much time until… A regular circular watch or clock gives so much more information. You immediately know how much time to the next hour or half hour, also how much time has elapsed since the last half hour etc.
Now, if someone could just make a nice lady’s watch with the day and date. I’m always having to rush in to the computer and see what day it is and what I’ve missed. Or maybe that’s just my problem. The memory’s going, going, going….
Patrice—Try http://princetonwatches.celebros.com/ and add in day and date. I found my watch I bought 25 years ago right away. I am surprised at the cost—very reasonable. You will probably find a better price with a little research. I think the folks here are correct; watches have gone out of style. I hadn’t thought about it.
I look at the clock when I wake up. After that, I go by outside light and have a sense of approximate time. When I have to be somewhere at a specific time, like jury duty, I look at the kitchen clock or car clock. I don’t wear a watch.

I usually look at my cell phone or telephone caller ID. If I’m on the computer I look at the time.
How do I tell the time? Easy. I have a watch dog.

Most of my time is spent in the kitchen or on the computer, hence stove clock or computer clock. ODD question to say the least.
