The shiny sneakers Michelle Obama sported Wednesday while volunteering with Jill Biden at a Washington, DC, food bank have become all the rage. The plum and silver shoes, built with suede, were made by the high-end French design house Lanvin. The shoes, which will run you $540, also come in satin and denim.
The feet of other famous women, including Nicole Kidman, Kate Moss, Chloë Sevigny, Sofia Coppola, Catherine Deneuve and Jennifer Aniston, have also found comfort in the casual footwear brand.
Barneys New York, Bergdorf Goodman, Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus carry the Lanvin label. Even in this economy, it won’t be surprising if stores sell out of the sneakers.

Thank you. I wanted to get that plug in for Cindy McCain. Yes, she has inherited many millions. By her her own admission, life with a strong personality like John has not been easy. But, if it were not for Cindy, hundreds of very poor children would be locked away in a back room somewhere. Her involvement and money with Operation Smile has opened an entirely new world for those children…. a world without mockery or ridicule. Her own daughter Bridget was one of those babies.
I don’t care what other snakes are in her closet, and we all know they exist. I didn’t vote for her husband, but as far as I am concerned, Cindy can drape herself in her diamonds every time an opportunity presents itself.
If Michelle Obama can be such a presence for good will as Mrs. McCain, then God bless her and the shoes she chooses to wear. May those same shoes carry her to even more food banks.
Deber, she owns the majority of stock of Hensley but in no way shape or form does she actually run it. She is the "figurehead" and spends her days working on her charities and her children.
I think the issue about Palin was in regards that her wardrobe was paid for with RNC funds. I didn’t have a problem with her wardrobe, she looked good. Also, MO never said anything about McCain’s wealth. I find it odd that just because someone belongs to a certain party they supposedly embrace ALL of the party’s ideals. That isn’t true of anyone.
MO’s wardrobe is either a gift from the designer or purchased with her own money. I see no problem with her selections. She can afford it. She isn’t depriving her family. Getting upset over shoes seems pretty ridiculous to me. No matter what the state of the economy is, you should always live within your means. If you can’t afford $500 shoes don’t buy them. I treated myself to my first and only pair of Manolo’s for my last birthday. I saved up all year. I don’t feel one second of regret.Well I hope she has learned a lesson that as a Frist Lady..it may not be appropriate to wear designer clothes to a shelter when you KNOW that the media is there as well. Bully for her that she can afford them. It is not what she wears it is where she wore them.
She also took heat for wearing inappropriate clothes when planting her garden
I would have applauded her wearing jean overalls and a plaid shirt with rubber clogs like I do! Then she would have looked like a real gardner.
The most expensive shoes I have ever owned were $140. The ONLY reason I bought those is because in my old age my arches are falling and they are most comfortable when my feet hurt! (not attractive though..for sure)
Michelle’s shoes are cute for the younger set…but I would feel like a clown with them on my feet! (lol)
Hey, I just got a new pair of sneakers, I was bummed they were only five dollars off of $60.00. Heavy sigh!
I hope the first lady’s sneakers are comfortable, mine are.
Who cares what shoes she is wearing? I can’t afford them. She can. More power to Michelle. At least she is working at a food bank. Of course, there are those who focus on the trivial to distract us from the real. The real is what she is doing, not what she is wearing. Can’t we grow up?
