One study from Yale says that women are evolving to become shorter and fatter. In recent years have you shrunk or gotten fatter?

Our witty, fun friends at Lemondrop.com recently highlighted a study by Yale scientists that said in the future women will be shorter and fatter. Are you concerned about this study?

I certainly don’t see women getting shorter.  I’m 5’9" and when I first started working in the early 1970’s, I was the tallest woman in the office of over 400 people.  Now, I’m right in the middle of the pack — a lot of the younger women are considerably taller than me.  if women are getting shorter, its certainly not on the west coast…

This really doesn’t surprise me… I actually noticed in high school (I’m 21) that a lot of the freshman girls my senior year had a very similar build to my step sister (who was a freshman then)…. shorter and somewhat plump, large chest and hips especially. It’s even more noticeable in my youngest sister’s class.

I really hope that I do not lose any height. At 5’2" (barely) I am the shortest person in my family. My height is all in my spine…I have very short, somewhat bowed legs. I do not, fortunately, have my father’s family "hump", something all of the women seemed to develop with age, so perhaps I will avoid spinal shrinkage.

As for weight, I have never been thin (always maintaining a weight of about 140 since about the age of 16) but I have was always firm and balanced until my breakdown 12 years ago. My psychiatrist prescribed Zyprexa, and I gained about 100 lbs. The lovely, wonderful thing about Zyprexa is that you don’t care one bit what’s happening to you, and the weight gain is alarmingly fast. I stopped taking Zyprexa after 2 years, when the warnings about diabetes started (which I avoided) but the damage was done. It has taken me a long time, but my weight has  steadily gone back down, my health is excellent (I am on different meds that do not cause weight gain now), my blood pressure is monitored, and, if I follow the family trend, I will continue to lose, rather than gain. Even menopause does not seem to be affecting my weight adversely, as I seem to be firming up and losing. I hope it continues!
