Obama Shirtless on Washingtonian | 04/21/2009 8:00 am

President Barack Obama Shirtless on Washingtonian Cover (Image)

Cover line reads: #2 Reason We Love Living Here: Our Neighbor Is Hot

May Issue of Washingtonian

The May issue of Washingtonian recycled the infamous paparazzi photograph of a shirtless President Barack Obama to illustrate one reason why people "love living here: Our new neighbor is hot."

The picture was snapped as Obama vacationed in Hawaii with this family in December, days before the first family officially moved to Pennsylvania Avenue.

Garrett Graff, editor-at-large at Washingtonian, a monthly entertainment and lifestyle magazine read by more than 400,000 people, told ABC News the idea for the cover came during a staff discussion about the Obamas arrival and the "celebrity aspect that has brought energy to the city and the attention of the paparazzi."

"The Obamas are the center of attention here and the whole world is looking to Washington now in a way we haven’t seen in years," Graff said.

In February 2007, a different beach photograph of the then-Senator of Illinois stirred a media frenzy. In response to the publicity, Barack Obama voiced his dismay that the public wasn’t curious about his policies but rather his pectorals.

"The problem is that that’s not what you guys have been reporting on," he said. "You’ve been reporting on how I look in a swimsuit."

Tell us: What do you think of the May issue of Washingtonian? Is it innocent? Fun? Disrespectful? Degrading?

Have you seen Putin and his man-boobs? Barack Obama could chase him up a tree!

Yay!

Gee, I’m not certain exactly what it is you are saying………Is it that you’d like to see Putin chased up a tree by Obama? And why? Did you want Putin to get caught and if so….What did you want to see happen? Let’s try this angle….Did you want to see a Black guy chasing a white guy up a tree? And why would any black man chase a white guy up a tree?  Sometimes things are just tossed out the car window aimlessly, like your posting if ya know what I mean……………Just sayin!

He is an attractive man who also happens to be President of the United States.  Everything he says and does is subject to second guessing.

His cool under pressure. He is very popular in many countries around the world.  I am sure they are more shocked by the pictures of the the tea bag parties than his  picture on the cover of a magazine.

I don’t think anyone would criticize President Obama for the photo, he had nothing to do with it being put on this cover. But I do think the magazine is being disrespectful. I remember seeing a photo of JFK swimming (in fact, he didn’t like the photo, said it showed off the ‘Fitzgerald breasts!’) but I can’t imagine that photo being put on the cover of a major magazine at that time, it would have been considered beyond disrespectful. This is the POTUS and, great looking that he is, he’s not a celebrity. I just think it undermines him and the office.

Um yes he is a "celebrity" and its okay. I find it refreshing to have an elected official and First Family who are "regular folk" so to speak. It is no secret that men and women alike are drooling over this man. I have a girl crush on our First Lady. He is the People’s President…

I guess the proof will be in the sales of this issue.  Someone at the top of the thread made the comment that since this is an old picture, who cares?  I agree…not in the best of taste, but it’s not like he posed for it.

As President, I do find it a bit odd that this photo is what’s making magazine covers. With that said, though, the man looks darn good!

I think is a great picture. It reminds me of the ones I use to see of President Kennedy.  Besides, who goes swimming in a suit and tie?  No one.  He who does is crazy!  Leave the man alone and let him fix this mess the ones before him have made of this country and STOP HATIN’!

Marva Marva,Keith, and Belinda. You all have said things that I completely agree with. There is nothing wrong with the picture. What man goes swimming in a suit and a tie? The answer is no one. Him and his wife are young, attractive, and most importantly highly intelligent and gifted. We needed this breath of fresh air in our country.

Every President has been white and almost all of them were older and acted like life was over because their age, and that is so not true. I love the fact that our President is doing his job well and is well known…every president is well know, what should be the difference with Obama?

Obama is not the one acting like a celebrity, its the media and other people who are giving the family that "celebrity" stamp. If you think about it, the Obamas do their jobs, even if the cameras and photographers were not there, they would still do it.

So get your panties out of a bunch and celebrate that we actually have a President that is an intellectual. If you can stand "Dubya" Bush for 8 years, then surely you can take a well educated, well spoken, and handsome President.

"Handsome is as handsome does."  Ladies if this is your idea of handsome, O.K. with me.  However,  I assure you I DO NOT FIND HIM HANDSOME.  Ears to big, and body to thin as far as physical attributes go. He also has many sinister facical expressions.  Arrogance being one of these expressions.

Yes because we all know Obama is arrogant…are u serious?? SMH. How do you express arrogance? He has the look of intelligence, something you may not be familiar with Carol.
