I LOVE knowing that she is strutting her stuff…all 175 lbs of it and her five foot eleven height accentuated further with heels when she feels like wearing them. Breaking all the unspoken "rules" for acceptability (don’t be too tall, weigh THAT much, wear heels if you are tall, etc. etc. ad nauseum). Livin’ large and lookin’ good…yay Michelle!

There are some comments on here that talk about Michelle as if they are personal friends of hers.  No one on this site knows the real Michelle…unless you are her friend and spend time talking with her and spending time with her, WE dont know the real Michelle Obama.  I am not saying she isnt who she shows but there is a chance she isnt.  She could be the total opposite of what we see on tv.

I would have to say everything and nothing really interests me about Michelle…She is FLOTUS…thats about it.

The comments here of which you speak, C Hardy, reveal the powerful impact Michelle has had on many women because of her ability to convey the kind of attributes we all admire. I have confidence that most of us are old enough to spot a phony; Michelle is no phony. That she could be, as you say, the total opposite of what we see, would be so intriguing one could make a really good film script from that–––whoops! Someone probably has.

Phyllis, I say that b/c it is so easy to fake certain things.  I mean look at all these murder - sucides today, I am sure those families and friends didnt think that person would do what they did…and i am not saying Michelle is like that- but you truly dont know someone by what you see on tv and in the media.  They could go behind closed doors and be nasty & curse and hang from the chanderliers.

Just like little Sandra in CA, she never thought someone in her small community would do to her what was done, but it happened…The post on here about that today says that neighbors are now looking at neighbors wondering, do we really know them???

That is my point…you only see what they want you to see.

Michell Obama’s character is outstanding -she is gracious, intelligent, natural, warm, loving and compassionate and she appeals to people of all ages and races, including the queen of England.  She’s a remarkable woman who will do much to help her husband win friends and influence in a positive way, people, governments and countries.  She warms my heart and gives me hope for the future.  Would that there were more people like her in the world.

I am so proud that our President and his wife have, together, changed the way vast numbers of people in Europe and elsewhere think about the USA.  They are ambassadors for all of us and the welcome that they receive is the welcome that we all receive, at one remove.  Michelle Obama’s grace, style, intellect and charm have won plaudits wherever she goes.  We should be deeply grateful to her for everything that she has done, by demonstrating these facets of her character, to bring us back into the family of nations.  (Laura Bush did her best but the hurdles she faced were insurmountable.)

I almost hit style but it’s really personality - she’s one tough cookie who has a compassionate heart at the same time - I am intrigued by her and I wish I could sit and have a cup of coffee, no press, with her - yes, she has a lot of style and carries herself so well, but that all happens because of who she is as a person

and I don’t get why people don’t like her - it can’t be a partisan thing, I liked George Senior’s wife Barbara though I had not voted for him and who couldn’t like Betty Ford?  people shouldn’t hate her becasue they are mad about the election, get over that - she is representing us women very well to the country and the world!

With her intelligence and grace, seeing if she will evolve into a person who rises above the fray and raises the bar on the political discourse.

I think she is probably the first, really authentic woman holding that job.  She knows who she is, we see this.  She feels comfortable in her own skin and shows a graciousness that is very real.

I said her mothering because it really is the basis for her and what she is.

I also love her style because like most of us she doesn’t always get it right but she she is comfortable in her choices and that is inspiring!

Barack and Michelle Obama are just as lovely in person as they are on television in  the news or in pictures on the internet.  I have been a very lucky person to live just outside the city in which he announced his candidacy, announced his vice president running mate and then visited in February to attend the Abraham Lincoln birthday dinner.  My son-in-law was the person in charge of building the ramps, the staircases and walkways used in the candidacy and vice presidential announcements and of course had to be in attendance so there was easy access for us.  My 7 year old grandson was even on scene in the old state capitol where the president and his lovely wife were walking around greeting people.  Many times the media shows this couple meeting and greeting and hugging and talking to ordinary folks.   These are human beings quite open to meeting the public.   I personally believe that if a person describes a person, it doesn’t mean that they know nothing of that person.  In my area it is common for the constituents and citizens of the state to be able to meet, greet, and mingle with legislators and political candidates.  Remember Barack Obama was a legislator who spent a lot of time in Springfield.  And I also witnessed the congressional impeachment hearings to impeach Blagojevich.  It is fun to be able to be in the swing of things.  It’s who you know.

Her confidence. I think she’s a great example for lots of women.

I’m interested by what she represents.  The Obamas are all about the modern world.  Using YouTube to connect with and record talks, educated and on top of technology, I believe they are true representatives of the new generation of Americans.  And unlike Laura Bush, Michelle Obama seems to be an extremely confident, proactive and strong model.  I believe she aware of the political and social weight on her shoulders, and is doing her very best to meet those expectations.
