What interests me most is First Lady Michele has her priorities and stands fast to her values. She has no time for critics, instead she goes about being the best mother, wife and role model she can be. She is doing a fantastic job of it.

I have zero interest in Ms. Obama or her children. Last I looked, I voted for Mr. Obama, not his family. He represents my interests — supposedly. All that is required of her is to not be an embarrassment.

Thank you, Georgia. You’ll excuse me if I don’t join in the cultic-type worship that both Mr. and Mrs. Obama appear to be receiving from their admirers. I voted for Mr. Obama, but I have little use for people who fawn over either of them the same way shallow people do over celebrities. Is it so shocking to you that I made the point that Ms. Obama hasn’t been elected to anything? She has no portfolio. Because she’s a decent person, she’ll probably do some decent things while MISTER Obama is the President. That’s great. She still doesn’t represent me. Think back to when Gorbachev was in charge in Russia. When he and his wife Raisa came over here, she got tons of attention in U.S. media simply because she dressed stylishly (as is the custom in Russian cities). This puzzled both her and her husband and in fact she found such attention a bit strange. Russians I asked about it expressed the general feeling that, "What are they writing about HER for?" But here, we’re so immersed in this culture of celebrity-worship that people can’t help falling all over themselves to elevate this (admittedly fine) woman to some kind of quasi-goddess status. She’s earned nothing of the sort.

I think the country has interest in the wives of US Presidents. I agree, the culture has gone nuts with the celebrity worship thing. Sometimes I don’t know if I’m watching the News, or TMZ - somehow celebrities show up in both shows.

But - I will say I’d rather read about the Presidents’ wife, rather than someone who has seriously done nothing - like Paris Hilton or her ilk.

GS…no quasi-goddess-making from me…..No matter what your take on the Obamas, I just thought that "not be an embarassment" was extreme in the low expectations department…..I don’t "expect" anything, really, either…I just anticipate a great deal…..way more than the "costumes"…..

G.Schwartz, I beg to differ with you! … First Lady Obama has quite an impressive personal and professional portfolio! … It may not be a political portfolio but it is no less impressive! … First Lady Michelle Obama is a Lawyer, CEO and Founder of a Corporation. She’s been employed in several High ranking Executive positions and a Community Activist! … She ‘s a loving Wife, Mother, Daughter, Family Member and Friend! … First lady Michelle Obama is also an Ivory Leaque Scholar(Princeton and Harvard.) … I think she more than qualifies as someone with a portfolio!

There is no CULT, GODDESSor CELEBRITY WORSHIP going on! … You have a group of people who admire First Lady Michelle Obama! … She’s worthy of our respect and admiration! … We are intelligent, artculate , mature and educated commentators. We know the difference between compliments and worshiping!… How insulting you are!

She’s a role model to men, women , girls and boys everywhere! … Who cares about her not representing you! … Who are you? … We are neither impressed nor shocked by you ! …. You are typical and ordinary…nothing special!… You are inconsequential and mean nothing in the whole scheme of things!

L.C., why do you hide behind your initials? Your idolatry (and yes, that’s EXACTLY what it is) of Ms. Obama is embarrassing. And why the ad hominem attacks on me personally? Lawyers, whom you seem to admire, will tell you that when arguing a case, "if you don’t have the facts on your side, argue the law; if you don’t have the law on your side, attack the other party personally." That’s as low as one can get when discussing an issue, but unfortunately it’s an area where you seem to be quite comfortable. You think you are so perceptive…"It’s sad when a woman is envious of her First Lady because of her accomplishments…" People see what they want to see, and you seem to see everything in black/white yes/no terms. First of all I’m not a woman. Second, if you read my comments without dubbing in your own rage, what I said about her specifically was that she was "decent" and "admittedly fine". I said nothing negative about Ms. Obama, just that she wasn’t deserving of celebrity-worship. Third, she has no official portolio. That’s a matter of fact, as "First Lady" is not an official government position…it’s a coincidence of her marriage to the President. Fourth, it’s not that difficult to become a lawyer…there are hundreds of thousands of them. I have known many hundreds of lawyers over the years and can tell you from personal knowledge that being a lawyer does not mean ther person should be admired for that reason alone. Fifth, anyone who can pay the filing fees can found a corporation. Oh, and by the way, that’s "Ivy League", not "Ivory Leaque." I think your head may be "leaquing."

Michelle Obama should not feel that she must be an advocate for women or mothers or fashion now or ever. All she needs to be is herself and do whatever projects or reach any goals that she sets for herself.

Being a mother is always difficult but the truth is that raising the children with good values and moral instincts are the most important now.

The President has a great support system and Michelle is part of that but she needs to be her own person too.

I don’t think that the general public needs to hear all about the children and what they do or don’t do in their private lives. But of course there is the fascination we all have in other peoples business.

Senators driving drunk are embarrassments. Dancing in pools with strippers in the middle of DC is an embarrassment. We need to care about those things because we need responsible leaders not drunks.

So Michelle will do her job and who knows what she will become. I just hope she doesn’t sit and look adoringly at her husband when he speaks. It was fun when Nancy did it. It is not Mrs Obamas’ style.

There have been ohh so many times that I have not been proud of my country and ohh so many timies that I have. I don’t believe anyone can honestly say that they have been 100% 24/7 proud of their country. Are you proud that we have homeless people, children without health care, children who cannot get a decent education, etc. There are so many things that we can find fault in and not be proud of; that does not make me Love the country that I live in any less. Are you always proud of your family and if not, do you stop loving them. I bet not!!
