Very kind of you, Lauriate, although it’s certainly not about me or my ego. The station can be listened to live on the Internet via a process known as streaming. Cheers.

I am 64 and in the last 10 years I have had four skin cancers removed, one from my back and the rest from my scalp. My dermatologist said it was from early sun damage, sunburn, etc. I never wore a hat or sunscreen when I was young. I now have to wear my hair curly and longer to cover bald areas. My skin cancers were basal and squamous cell. I would like to tell young people to wear sunscreen and hats when in the sun for extended periods.

Thanks,

Sharon Bayer

Can’t start too young to prevent sun-caused skin damage…I remember my mother used to set us kids out in bassinet, crib, playpen on porch in sun for the day because it was ‘good for us’…lost younger brother to melanoma 10 years ago, still hurts and I’M paranoid about it!  ALSO, you ‘kids’, have had TWO 20-something ‘aestheticians’ tell me THEIR dermatologist had diagnosed THEM with melanoma…one at 22…sun babies all…I don’t care how bad my SKIN looks as long as I’m healthy!  My dermo commented ‘that’s a funny looking spot, but I’ll leave a scar…". I replied I’d rather have a scar ANYtime than a cancer…eh??

With Estee Lauder company as a sponsor of this "poll" …just how scientific can it be?

Estee Lauder is a company I have liked for many reasons, for many years. I met Estee Lauder back in the 1960’s when she made an appearance at a big NYC department store. She was gracious and elegant, and a VERY savvy businesswoman. She built a great company, used a lot of her fortune to promote charitable endeavors, and it seems that Aerin Lauder is carrying on the tradition. That being said, I am wondering what the company is going to do with the replies to their wOw poll. If they are simply using this venue as a means of "stealth-vertising" Night Repair, so be it. (Don’t use it myself, but I have friends who swear by it.) However, if they are REALLY smart, they will be reading the responses to this poll - and, in fact, reading the entire wOw site on a daily basis - to learn what the lives of real women (and some enlightened gents) are actually all about in the real world!

I grew up in CA during the days when mothers had children play outside all day during the summer without sunscreen. Currently I now live in AZ.  At the age of 59 I had a good sized skin cancer removed from my nose requiring plastic surgery after the procedure.  I now use sunscreen and skincare products with sunscreen protection.  However, it’s a little like closing the barn door after the cow’s out.

Mary - Me too! From CA to AZ 8 yrs ago and have been a sun-worshipper all my life - so I guess all four elements (actually not water!!) would count against my skin. We had a condo in Palm Springs for years and I would "lay out" from 9 - 4 days on end! (My logic was that tan fat always looked better than white fat!) I still love a tan but now it comes from a bottle and I finally (at age 70)started using SPF on the face! Better late than never I guess!!

At 76 I have no real wrinkles - a few "crows feet" and tired looking eyes, (I work 4 12-hour days/week) but people often compliment me on my skin. I’m a fair skinned, blue eyed Celt (Cornwall) with a history of squamous cells & 1 melanoma on my leg years ago. I always wear a hat & dark glasses. I garden a lot, now try to avoid midday. Since a brand name product has been touted, I’ll reveal that I have happily used Clarins products for 25 years and more recently a retinol lotion and a day lotion rx’d by my dermatologist, the latter under the Clarins. In addition to lucky genes, I was fortunate to grow up in farm country with a diet heavily weighted with fresh veg & fish. I’ve continued to follow a healthy diet and regular exercise. I recently found a source for delicious raw milk and now add fresh ginger and turmeric to my morning shakes. I do believe diet shows in one’s skin, after genetic influences.
