Question of the Day | 07/09/2009 11:00 pm

Who, in your opinion, is the most physically beautiful woman you've ever laid eyes on in person?

Candice Bergen, Liz Smith and Joan Ganz Cooney name the women who simply take their breath away. Who has left you stunned by beauty?

Candice Bergen's Most Spectacular Beauties List

I remember Anne Bancroft was one of the most spectacular beauties. Gray hair. No face work. Drop-dead gorgeous. Nigella Lawson, whom I just had dinner with, is a knockout. My old friend Ali MacGraw is one of the all-time great-looking women. Diane Sawyer is – even after years of getting up at 3:30 AM and getting no sleep – simply stunning. Go figure. And women today are beautiful into their 70s. Jane Fonda looks INSANELY great. Gloria Steinem. I don’t even count the young ones. But truly, chicks rule.

Liz Smith Remembers a 'Simply Gorgeous' Elizabeth Taylor

I think it was Elizabeth Taylor back at the launch of her perfume ads and when she married Larry Fortensky. She was approaching 60 but she was simply gorgeous.

Joan Ganz Cooney Was Struck by Catherine Zeta-Jones's Beauty

When Al Gore was running for president, Tina Brown and Harry Evans gave a party for him. When I walked into their living room, the first person I saw was Catherine Zeta-Jones. For a moment I couldn’t move. She was the most beautiful woman I’d ever seen. Needless to say, it was hard to focus on Al Gore after seeing such a sight.

I agree with Candice, Nigella is one - but so is the lovely Candice!

One day, (quiet awhile ago) while sitting in a salon in Beverly Hills…in walked Kelly LeBrock. Smiled at me and then seated herself in the chair beside.

I was stunned at her natural beauty. (this was before lip plumping and check implants) Her skin was perfection (not a drop of make up) her lips were full and her eyes were an intense crystal blue.

She was just as sweet and uneffected as could be, chatting with me about her love for horses. (she was still in her riding attire) I was most impressed with her friendly and down to earth personality…which just made her all the more beautiful.

In person, I would say Marlo Thomas. She is beautiful.

Siasp, you and I think alike. Here are photos of my top 3 beauties, including my late Jude, at this link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/39234393@N02/sets/72157621207000812/

Erica Hill and Susan Evangelista are high on the list, too.

I knew you would reply to my comment. Jude is beautiful, too.

You know who I also think is smart and beautiful? Susan Sarandon and, of course, Meryl Streep. Others on my list are Salma Hayek and Natalie Protman.

Siasp, this is going to sound like I’m trying to be funny (being humorous Jim), but I actually knew that you knew that I would respond to your comment. Everyone knows I’m crazy about Marlo. She’s just my kind of woman. Gorgeous, but classy and very subtly sexy, rather than flaunting it. The personality of any woman is the key determinant, for me. I would go so far as to say half of the women on this website are sort of, kind of "girlfriends", because they all are so sweet on wOw. In some ways, we get to know each other much more deeply than we probably ever would’ve in the way people tend to meet superficially.

Does that make any sense? Probably not, as I’m a babbling idiot. Now, as I always wanted to meet Marlo (though I’d be way too shy), the $64,000 question is: can I have $64,000? No, the question is, where did you meet her? :0

Yes, it makes sense!  It also makes you adorable and I always look forward to your insight, James…Thanks for posting your photos!

I think the weird thing is that is makes sense.

I met her at a book signing she did for her book ‘The Right Words at the Right Time’. She is the reason I first started coming on this site.

Those two books on the Right Words are awesome. Her father was wise beyond his years, as evidenced by the words he spoke to Marlo that helped inspire those books: "Just run your own race, baby."

Yes, I always think of those words. I wish I could have met her father. He was an amazing man from what I have heard of him.

You know, I’d see Danny Thomas on a TV show or commercial as a kid and think, "I like him. He seems real nice." I liked the way he talked and his smile. I didn’t know back then that he’d founded St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or was Marlo’s father. I just thought he and Dean Martin were funny.

I have to confess that I feel like a bit of a stalker as, in recent years, I’d sent Marlo a number of letters - and even a book - to the hospital. Mostly just telling her I’m a fan of her as a person, her acting, and her vision. She probably thinks I’m a nut-case, and I probably am! Haven’t seen her post on wOw in a long time, though. I know she’s always got a busy schedule, and her New Year’s resolution of having a more relaxing 2009 - I’d bet dimes to doughnuts - has been shot down in flames. - James

Yeah, I have noticed she has not posted anything in a long time. I always look forward to her posts. You are probably right about her New Year’s resolution.

James…we are only 1/100th as lucky as Jude was… ;]

Oh…and I look EXACTLY like Marlo…(under the arms…)….

Kelly, that is kind of you. I don’t know what you mean by "under the arms". I’m a little slow at times.
