Question of the Day | 07/09/2009 11:00 pm

Who, in your opinion, is the most physically beautiful woman you've ever laid eyes on in person?

Candice Bergen, Liz Smith and Joan Ganz Cooney name the women who simply take their breath away. Who has left you stunned by beauty?

Candice Bergen's Most Spectacular Beauties List

I remember Anne Bancroft was one of the most spectacular beauties. Gray hair. No face work. Drop-dead gorgeous. Nigella Lawson, whom I just had dinner with, is a knockout. My old friend Ali MacGraw is one of the all-time great-looking women. Diane Sawyer is – even after years of getting up at 3:30 AM and getting no sleep – simply stunning. Go figure. And women today are beautiful into their 70s. Jane Fonda looks INSANELY great. Gloria Steinem. I don’t even count the young ones. But truly, chicks rule.

Liz Smith Remembers a 'Simply Gorgeous' Elizabeth Taylor

I think it was Elizabeth Taylor back at the launch of her perfume ads and when she married Larry Fortensky. She was approaching 60 but she was simply gorgeous.

Joan Ganz Cooney Was Struck by Catherine Zeta-Jones's Beauty

When Al Gore was running for president, Tina Brown and Harry Evans gave a party for him. When I walked into their living room, the first person I saw was Catherine Zeta-Jones. For a moment I couldn’t move. She was the most beautiful woman I’d ever seen. Needless to say, it was hard to focus on Al Gore after seeing such a sight.

The planes of Halle Berry’s face reflect the light in the most beautiful way.  Elizabeth Taylor in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" was so stunning, one didn’t notice Paul Newman.  Candance Bergen in "The Group" and now.  Nicole Kidman before she became plastic.  My daughter.

In person - from such a brief moment - stunningly beautiful - an image imprinted eternally in my brain…Dorothy Lamour.

The most stunningly beautiful woman I have ever seen was a woman I met when she was young.  It wasn’t her perfect sweet face, her shoulder-length, straight blond hair, her big gorgeous blue eyes, or even her toned and perfect body that drew my attention, although those physical attributes did get my attention as well.

What struck me was the glow about her. She exuded energy and light and strength.

After I got to know her, I found out about her very difficult childhood, not from her, but from others who also knew her. In spit of that, or maybe because of it, she has an inner intensity and character radiated with a peaceful restfulness that I have never seen in any other person I have ever met.

Now that she is much older, she still has that elusive beauty, both inside and out, and I know she always will.

I’ve seen some of these same qualities in Queen Latifa in the few interviews I’ve seen her do. I’d love to meet that woman in person sometime.  I think she is drop-dead gorgeous.

Jill St. John: sat beside her on a bench at SFO one evening while waiting for a cab to take me home (on leave from the USAF). While she wasn’t as beautiful to me as my (then) girlfriend ☺, she was a stunner.

Strictly in terms of facial features I would have to say Sandra Bullock, I think she is so striking.

Catherine Deneuve, my friends, is the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.

Dame Elizabeth Taylor has had several ultra beautiful times in her life. All throughout the 1950’s/1960’s/ most of the 1970’s. Ruffly from 1985-1989 and again 1991-1994. The rest of the time she was just plain beautiful. Even at her most difficult of times, her beauty reigned supreme. So without going into endless paragraphs regarding the magnitude of her stunning good looks, I shall just show you

Thanks, Richard, that was lovely to watch.  I knew you and I would be in agreement about this.

The most physically beautiful? My mother. Tall, willowy, blonde, cheekbones to die for. And as bizzare as it sounds to even state this, people viewing her in her coffin were saying, "Even in death. Still beautiful."

I live in LA, work in the film business, and I’ve been at it for years and years so I’ve seen my share of famous people, the women whose physical beauty has impressed me are Salma Hayek, Penelope Cruz, Cindy Crawford, Charlize Theron, Halle Berry, Kate Beckinsale, Rachel Weizs and Jennifer Connelly, but the ones that have blown me away were Catherine Deneuve and Jane Fonda

I saw Marlo Thomas making an appearance at Macy’s in SF around 1979, and she was absolutely dazzling. She was standing next to a few very chic, very pretty twenty-something women and made them positively drab in comparison.

Karin, check out this video of Marlo keynoting a conference. Humorous!

For a celebrity, Kate Beckinsale, especially in that outfit she had on in Underworld.

In person, my ex Wendy.  Breathtakingly beautiful with a heart of gold.

Diana Rigg as Emma Peel on The Avengers.  Some of her clothes (her cat suits, etc) were stunning.
