It's been one year since Obama's election. Knowing what you know now, would you change your vote?

deber:  …46% not a bad number.

Obama’s win was not a landslide…  it was actually relatively close.  Granted he won solidly, no question about it, but a lot of it had to do with some excellent campaign strategy and a lot of help from the MSM, and lots and lots of money to buy face time.  McCain didn’t have that at his disposal.  All considered, he did quite well.

It's the Abortion Issue, Stupid, by Mr. wOw

Mr. WoW:  Mr. wOw has grown weary of the health-care debate, especially as the Democrats are such scurrying mice, willing to water it down tragically. So forget the damn thing and get us some jobs.

That is so right on.  The health-care bill needs to be tossed out.  Everyone take a breather.  Then start out fresh next year with all members of Congress having input.  Republicans as well as Democrats.  Forget the "We Won" attitude…  it doesn’t work.  Right now, it would seem as if Nancy Pelosi would sell her soul for a health bill…  any bill no matter how ridiculous.

As for the Catholic church messing with abortion issues, they can only mess as far as they are allowed to, and if the wording is as you say, then someone has caved in and let them in the door.  They have a doctrine and they are going to promote it as much as they can.

deber: Sarah Palin…

Right now, I probably would not vote for her in the primaries, but would clearly vote for her in the general election, should she get the nomination from Republicans, Conservatives and Independents.  It seems the Republican party has become the catchall for all those other than Democrats.  I rather dread another four years of Obama.

phyllis: …his, unfortunately was not run well.

And yet, he was able to garner 46% of the vote.  Just think what that could have been had he run a good campaign.

I think McCain was cleared of that involvement.  Problem with McCain is that he’s lived a long time and been involved in a lot of things…  some of them probably not the best of choices.  When Obama reaches the same age, it’s very likely he’ll have a whole string of mistakes dragging behind him.  It’s part of the game of politics, and life.  And never forget that the MSM was very kind to Obama.  Very, very kind.

deber:  Hillary would’ve been focused on this same healthcare bill that has taken up a year of Obama’s presidency.

Yes, and it might have been her undoing, but I think she would have focused on her objectives a little better — the thing might not have become such a boondogle.  We didn’t have inspiring choices in this past election.  Our choices were a young man with no experience, an old man set in his ways, and for a while, Hillary who seemed to make the most sense.  That being said, I don’t know if I’d vote for her again.  I’m still of the mindset that this overwhelmingly Democratic majority has to be broken up or watered down.

I voted for Hillary in the primaries and McCain in the general election.  Either one would have made a better president, a more seasoned leader.

Quit Dithering, by E. D. Hill

Lila:  What I really want is a DRAFT any time this nation goes to war.

With no deferments.

…there MUST be some sense that anyone, or anyone’s child, could be called to into combat.

Exactly…  the tone would change 100%.  Reps and Senators would be responsible for the children of their constituents, as well as their own children or grandchildren.  Responsibility.  Sounds like a wonderful plan.

Sara:  Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland?

Do these countries have standing armies, or simply a type of National Guard to defend their borders.  There are few serious armies left…  frankly, I can think of only the U.S. that truly has a striking force that can make an impact.  The others are all little puddles of allies, and they know it.  But, even with the military might of the U.S., I tend to agree with you, there can be no real winning in Afghanistan.  Al Quaida is mobile…  terrorism is mobile.

E. D. Hill:  Door No. 2…

That’s the door to pick… I agree with you and your article.  Afghanistan is a different kind of place, a culture set apart, a way of governing quite unlike our own.  Nothing short of a 50-year occupation would change the minds and hearts of the people there.  I find it a treacherous place…  a place where a battle can’t really be won.

Michelle Obama ... A Rage in Red!

phyllis:  …as did Laura Bush.

I think we’re talking about getting ready for the cover of Glamour magazine.  Laura Bush always looked dressed for the role of First Lady to me.  Nothing more than that.  Why the Dems are promoting Michelle as a glamour star is beyond me.

Sherrie:   You missed the point Margorie.

So what’s the point?  Do you really believe only the evil rich have funds in the stock market?

Brittle Obama Thrashes Wall Street: All Form, No Substance, by Liz Peek

Right now Obama is on a money-raising tour for his Democratic friends.  He’s been in N.J., MA, CT this past week and who knows where he’ll be next week.  He leaves the government for others to run…  he is simply the spokesman, and goodwill ambassador for his party.  All others be damned.  This administration is 100% politics.  Every decision is made with re-election in mind.

Clipping the salaries on overpaid CEO’s sounds good, but that money doesn’t find its way back into the taxpayer’s pockets.  As Liz mentioned, nothing is gained by it…  it’s just a gesture for show.

Sherrie:   …the rich are betting and where they put the odds of their own performance.

The reality is there are many, many small investors…  people with retirement funds in the market.  Ten percent unemployment means 90% are living their lives as usual.  Right now, on term Certificates of Deposit, banks are paying something like 1.75%.  Regular (as opposed to rich) people have to use the market to avoid running in place.  They gamble, they lose… or win.
