Obama Camp Shoots Down Rumors of Biden Dropout

Lorraine, that’s exactly what I’ve been thinking and hearing. The way she holds that baby is weird. She holds him as if she doesn’t really want to be holding him.

Palin Goes From Breath-of-Fresh Air to Hick; McCain's Rattled and Confused, by Margo Howard

You sense as I do, and as many do, that the election has suddenly changed; that McCain and Palin seem foolish compared to the brilliant and dignified Obama and Biden team. I definitely feel that Obama and Biden are breaking out for a strong finish.

Who Is Dressing Sarah Palin? wowOwow’s Etceterist Hears …

At least she has gotten rid of that beehive hairdo. We squawk about guys with wigs so, we can comment on hairpieces. If Sarah is going to appear in public again, she has to get her wardrobe worked out. She presented herself to world leaders in an outfit where the top and skirt didn’t work together—-to be polite. Sarah, you either wear a long sleeved dress that falls just below your knees, or a sheath dress with a matching jacket, or a skirt suit. The image of her that is the least appealing is when she’s got “her” special needs baby tucked under her arm as if it were a football—-or doll. Any woman who makes that choice to give birth to a special needs baby such as “hers,” knows that her life is dedicated to that child and that her life is no longer about just about her. What’s up with that?

John McCain Suspends Campaign, Asks to Postpone Friday Presidential Debate UPDATE

Definitely, go to YouTube, “McCain Vietnam,” and send the “Hanoi Hilton” videos to all of your friends. There are fascinating and extraordinary accusations by his fellow POWs. Because McCain’s father was an admiral, McCain’s records are sealed. Someday, our grandchildren will wonder how we could have ever taken McCain seriously as a contender for the presidency.

John McCain Suspends Campaign, Asks to Postpone Friday Presidential Debate UPDATE

It is awesome that you are so on top of this. This is a travesty. McCain is using the state of the ecomony to go to DC and have the media question him before the other senators. This is purely a manipulative move. McCain is not up to a debate with Obama; this is a diversion. We all need to talk to any guy we know who was at the “Hanoi Hilton” with McCain. Apparently, according to one source that I know of, “he sang like a bird.” He gave away military secrets that consequently got a lot of our boys killed, as well as thousands of Vietnamese murdered. There is a long piece in the Nation this week by that admirable journalist Sidney H. Schanberg. It’s about how John McCain covered up the story of the POWs who didn’t come back. The article also goes into the details of McCain’s confession to the North Vietnamese, which they broadcast widely. Yes, it was done under stress, but it was a confession nonetheless. The Pentagon has deep-sixed it, as well as the results of the navy interrogation of McCain after his return. Did his father, the Admiral, pull strings? Schanberg speculates that McCain’s famous anger may be a result of the turmoil he still experiences. For those of you who aren’t sure who Schanberg is, he did that wonderful movie about the Killing Fields. It was about Schanberg and his Cambodian photographer who escaped. We need to encourage Schanberg to interview other men like McCain who were at the Hanoi Hilton—well before the election November 4th.

What do you think is the real reason men are afraid of women over 50?

By the time a woman reaches fifty, what she wants most from a man is respect. Our culture doesn’t respect older women as anything but matriarchal figure heads; they don’t want to think about them as having sexual yearnings and desires.

HerTube: Birthday Wishes to F. Scott Fitzgerald

Tender Is the Night” is one of the most important books I’ve read. Perhaps, it is the best written novel by an American; it is definitely an American classic.

Choosing from our 2008 list, who do you think is the sexiest man over 50?

Let’s get real here. The future of America is at stake and Women On the Web is stuck on bad boys? What’s up with that? Listen ladies, the real world is upon us. Get the word out that if Obama doesn’t get elected, we are all going to hugely regret McCain and Palin as our president and vice president.

Choosing from our 2008 list, who do you think is the sexiest man over 50?

Obama and Biden—-life is not just about Hollywood. We’ve got the most important election of my lifetime going on here and Women On the Web is promoting actors? What’s up with that?

What is your favorite book of this summer thus far? Why?

Brideshead Revisited,” by Evelyn Waugh, was my best summer read. What a book! What a story! Beautifully written; impossible to put down. I’ll see the movie just for the fun of it.

Tonight! wowOwow Reader Forum on Charlie Gibson's 20/20 Interview with Sarah Palin

He blew her out of the water. He showed her for who she really is.

Joan Ganz Cooney on the Real Reason Obama Didn't Choose Hillary

Let it go. Who really cares anymore? The discussion is so over. Hillary has moved on. We all respect her; we’ve all moved on. What is important is that we get rid of the Bush-Cheney mafia.

wOw's Comments of the Week 9/13 - 9/19

Since January, I’ve known that “the powers that be” are so focused and dedicated that Obama will be our next president, that for the first time in my intellectual life I feel that our country is finally on the right track.

What advice would you give a daughter, niece, goddaughter or granddaughter who was pregnant out of wedlock?

Ms. Davies, the problem is that in Rhode Island (I don’t know about the other states.) the schools don’t teach what you call “independent living classes” until eleventh grade; by then most eleventh graders have had an average of twenty sexual partners, according to a recent study. When girls as young as twelve are having babies and thereby having to leave school in order to take care of those babies, who is supposed to take care of those twelve year olds having babies? These young girls become chronically depressed with a depression that lasts a life time. If you have ever been depressed, then you understand how debilitating depression can be. These twelve year old girls should be in high school learning life skills that will help her take care of and provide for a family when she is ready to do so.

What advice would you give a daughter, niece, goddaughter or granddaughter who was pregnant out of wedlock?

Too many of my friends suffer from mysterious aliments that doctors cannot detect, since giving birth to a baby that they were forced to give away. So many women suffer from depression because they had to give up an unplanned baby. Emotionally stunted these women live seemingly unfufilled lives, whereas friends who had an abortion were empowered by having made such an important decision, on their own at such a young age, have gone on to live worthwhile happy lives. No one should have to give birth to a baby that she does not want because that baby will always know that she was not wanted. Whenever I have the opportunity to tell a young person why I believe in a women’s right to choose, I speak my mind. I’ve explained the importance of a person having the right to decide her own future to children as young and ten years old. That’s how important I believe the issue is. Over the years here in Newport, RI, where sex education is not taught until eleventh grade, I’ve followed the lives of seventh and eighth graders whose parents punish their twelve, thirteen, or fourteen year old daughter by making her stay out of school to take care of her baby.
