My wonderful Mother.  God I miss her.  Almost two years gone and I still pick up the phone and dial her when I have "news".  The other one would be Judith Martin.  But then again, I am talking about basically the same person.  :-)

I had two wonderful grandmothers, and recently lost the best Mom a guy could ever had.  I learned my manners from her.  I also have a sister.  That word is just completely off limits ever.  Much less to someone who you are supposed to be protecting, loving, and thanking God everyday that she is supporting YOU in what you want to achieve.  Honestly, the mind reels.  But I suppose that is about what you could expect from a man who returns from Vietnam and announces to his now crippled wife that she is "not who he left behind" and leaves her.  That man tries to take gentlemen like myself back to the caveman era.  I just can’t and will NOT try to understand or forgive that.  Wow, sorry to get on my soapbox!  Thank you for the comment.

Thank you.  We were fortunate to be raised the way we were.  Not all the kids I know growing up were.  May I also say you have a beautiful writing style. 

I am not surprised; I am delighted.  I have a lot of friends who like you hold conservative views.  I didn’t mean to imply or "paint us all with the same brush" that I lump everyone into a few categories.  Far from it.  In one of my previous comments I stated how much I dislike being dumped into a category at all, so it was never my intention to imply that I was putting you or anyone else here into a "one-size-fits-all" category.  I too am a Christian.  And I believe we this country is in deep trouble financially.   Two things we have in common.  As for abortion, as a 48 year old man, my belief is that as soon as I qualify for one I will voice my opinion.  Thank you so much for the reply and for clearly stating your opinions.  I enjoy this type of debate where it is about issues and not about name-calling.

Wow.  Just wow.  As one who was abused as a child and eventually made the decision to move on and not make it the basis of my life, I salute you.  Your post has incredible insight and if everyone here would read it and really think about what is being said, I think we might agree that we all have more in common that what would appear.  Thank you for your bravery in inserting a personal and no doubt painful story to illustrate what things have become.  Republican, Democrat, Third Party…who of you doesn’t feel the emotion in this and see the parallel to what is happening now?  More importantly, who wants to line up and give Truth a HUGE hug and then make her a grilled cheese sandwich with cream of tomato soup?  Thank-you so much Truth for sharing a very poignant and very appropo story.

That must be one of the most important things that describe you, as you forgot yo mention it because you just take it for granted that everyone knows.  That is wonderful.  We share some same beliefs, qualities, character traits, etc.  Thanks so much for reaching out to me. No, plenty of us voted to make sure McCain was not elected President.  If for no other good reason, I, as a southern gentleman, could never vote for a man who would call his wife the C word.  In public no less.

Hi Leigh.  Since you referenced my comment, please allow me to comment on something you said in the paragraph referring to me.  "fear of those who ignore the constitution…".  I, too, am and have been afraid of those who ignore the constitution for many more years than President Obama has been elected.  While you may find this off topic, I am afraid that I will never get the rights guaranteed to me in the Constitution.  You see, I cannot be married.  I am not allowed to file an IRS tax return with my partner.  I have had to spend over $10,000 in legal fees to assure that my partner and I have less than a forth of the "rights" married people can take for granted.  There is much to fear these days, agreed.  Maybe, just maybe, if we start taking care of each other, respecting each other, taking control as Americans that we no longer want or will tolerate a racist or exclusionary society, it might not matter so much what the politicians do.  What do you think?
