Margo Howard: The Origins of Obama Rage?

Macwoof, please get off topic more often.  That was great.

Margo Howard: The Origins of Obama Rage?

Oh, and I forgot something.  God bless YOU Helen.

Margo Howard: The Origins of Obama Rage?

I have never seen so much said in so few words.  We in the South tend to blather on, so I admire your ability to get your perfectly on point message across so succinctly.  I am in awe.

Beautifully said.  Let’s just focus on what we know and not what we conjecture about Joe Wilson’s maybe/maybe not racism.  He did something completely inappropriate (and please follow with me here Judith Martin) and rude.  He has apologized to the President.  If he were a true gentleman he would also have publicly apologized to his peers and to all of us Americans.

What in the world does that mean, what sort of "privilege" am I supposed to have?

Deber B:  Who in the world is calling you a racist because you may diagree with the President’s decisions or the policy the White House adopts?  Do those people calling you that realize that Congress, not the President, are the bodies that enact laws?  You have stated here that you are not a racist.  I believe you.  I may not agree with your opinions, but I am not calling you a racist because you disagree with me.  And neither would anyone else who believes in true, spirited debate (a debate I might add is one of the cornerstones of our country).  As a second question, why would you care about someone’s opinion who just reduces a discussion on politics to namecalling?

Hear Hear!  Very well said.  I loathe being sterotyped because of my race, my heritage, my orientation, etc.  ALL can go fly a kite as far as I am concerned.

Thank you for the encouragement Jim.  And thank you for reminding me that I should, no must remember that optimism is what is called for in these troubled times.  Was it Anne Frank who said something to the effect of "…I still believe in the goodness of people" or "I still believe that people are basically good"?  Someone please chime in with the correct quote.  I, too, believe that the majority of people have goodness and love in their hearts.  They just don’t seem to be interesting enough to televise.  Again, many thanks Jim for the kind comments.

Marjorie C., a question or two for you.  How in touch are you with the African American community?  Do you really feel that there was no racial divide prior to the President taking office.  I am not being snarky here, I genuinely want to know since those are pretty large statements to make.

Free speech withstanding, what happened to respect and dignity?

I could not agree with you more and may I also add that I find you very articulate.  If we all behaved as though Miss Manners aka Judith Martin were watching us, this country would be in a much better place.  So I would add to your comment, what happened to manners and the Golden Rule?

Elinor.  I certainly agree that Senator Wilson lacks impulse control, however, we have no evidence that his outburst was racially motivated.

Margo Howard: The Origins of Obama Rage?

I agree.  Of course that is racism.  Why would you be afraid to say so?

Margo Howard: The Origins of Obama Rage?

Racism is racism.  I’m not assigning racism to any color, ethnicity, orientation, sex, etc.  There is racism in parts of all these things.  I am viewing the problem as a whole which would include what I believe is called reverse racism, though for the life of me I don’t understand why we need another name for what is the same thing.

Margo Howard: The Origins of Obama Rage?

Of course this is racism in one of its ugliest forms trying to disguise itself as Patriotism.  And what is the cause of racism?  Poor education, long time family beliefs, the need to feel superior to someone, anyone?  Certainly these are valid.  I believe the biggest cause of racism is…fear.  Think about it.  The people that shout down marriage equality, revile the President and accuse him of falsifying documents, and spead the lies that "death squads" will come from a universal health care system;  they are all afraid.  Afraid of something they don’t understand or have the education skills to try and comprehend.  Anger is a secondary emotion frequently used to mask the real emotion which is fear.  These people have scared themselves to death and I think it is only a matter of time until violence erupts.  What’s the solution?  I don’t have one.  Thoughts?
