Susan Boyle: 10 Tips for Taking Off 20 Years, by a Top Beauty Editor

Hi DeBurca,

Whenever I hear "pink" lipstick, I think of that cotton candy color. I don’t now why, but I do.

I have the same hair, eyes and skin tone (mine is a golden/olive skin tone). Anyway, I can’t wear "pink" either.

IF you are interested, here is a link to my makeup guru, Bobbi Brown. I love her because she liked to help women look their "natural" best, not like they are ready for the runway. Once a year I go into a dept. store just to make sure my concealer is still concealing, and to get a new lip color.

She has come out with what I think is a great tool: Lip System. It’s a color wheel. (They gave me three. One to keep in my handbag, and two to mail to friends so they can match lipsticks at a store of their choice.) You identify your natural lip shade "match" on her color wheel. In the dept. store, they hold the plastic wheel up to your lips, and turn it and turn it, until they have the best color match. Here on this link you can click on the color choices (mine is Brownie Pink). It lists a neutral, bright and deep shade, in whatever application you want. I get the creamy lip color, as I’m 50+ now, blah, blah, blah. You might look wonderful in her Italian Rose for day, or her Plum, or Raisin Berry, or Ruby. Oh, here I go. Anyway, here is the link in case you are interested.

How worried are you about swine flu?

I’m very concerned.

I avoid unnecessary exposure to crowds. If I don’t need to go out, I don’t go out.

Being unsure as to the effects of long-term use of hand santizers (chances of resistance to bacteria, etc.) I keep a box of disposable gloves in my car. I put a pair on before entering a market. I toss them upon leaving. Then I put a new pair on so that I don’t transfer any germs from the market onto my steering wheel. When I get into my house, I toss those gloves and immediately, thoroughly wash my hands. Before putting my food away, I take it out of its packaging, and transfer it to my Fresh Vac Professional Food Storage containers. I toss whatever it came in. Also, I am careful to not touch my face, or rub my eyes, unless I am in my house.

Also, I do not buy vegetables, etc. that are from Mexico.

I try to cook all my meals myself.

If I am out, and someone sneezes near me, I leave the room. This is not flu season, and I am very cautious of anyone sneezing or coughing, especially if they don’t do so into their hands or the crook of their arm.

I am supposed to take a flight in May. We’ll see.

Defense Department to Release Prisoner Treatment Photos. How Bad Will They Be?

Kelly In Texas,

You are obviously one of those Republicans who are unaware of anything wrong done by the Bush administration. And you condemn President Obama for his great efforts to recover us from them. I wish you well; however, I see no point in having further exchanges with you. You are like a shark, waiting for blood. Please do not write to me. I have no use for you. I will not read your posts, nor will I resond again.

Defense Department to Release Prisoner Treatment Photos. How Bad Will They Be?

Hi Frannie,

It’s always nice to hear from you. Even on the rare occasion where we don’t agree. You’re always approachable.

I don’t think our releasing photos will have an impact on Al Q., as Al Q. is on their own program.

Our releasing photos will have an impact on non-Al Q. organizations.

And the ACLU is not the enemy.

I want the parties responsible for torture, to be tried for their war crimes.

Best,

When a company's opinions or stances are discordant with your own, are you reluctant to buy from them?

Suzanne,

Thanks for the link! Nice break, as you just rescued me from the sharks who came out for blood on the Defense Dept. to Release Prisoner Treatment Photos thread. Best,

Kelly in Texas,

Torture is not intelligence gathering.

Torture is a war crime.

And as far as money grabbing, you should look at the prior adminstration.

I am so proud of President Obama for doing the right thing. For supporting transparency of information. For showing us the proof of this crime. I hope that this will lead to prosecution. We cannot protect the criminals, or else this will go on and on.

My Kids Rock N,

I think the Christian fundamentalists support Israel because they are looking for its destruction. Maybe you aren’t one who shares that view (hopefully).

I don’t mind so much that a company be Christian based, as long as it doesn’t force its Christianity on me as a customer.

I fail to see how you would think that I am the intolerant one here. It is the COMPANIES I boycott that show INTOLERANCE

Not being supportive of a woman’s right to choose is showing intolerance.

Discriminating against gays is showing intolerance.

Being critical of Israel for defending herself is showing intolerance.

Best,

Hi Suzanne,

I share your interest in Newsom. Bright man. I also like Jerry Brown, and have for years. A few good candidates in this election. It will be exciting.

Suzanne,

Your quote: "Would eat goldfish for breakfast before I’d ever watch Fox News."

LOL! Except I watch occasionally just to see what the enemy is doing.

Thanks for the links.

I like to think of myself as an informed consumer. And I vote with my dollars. Every time I put a dollar down, I am voting for or against something. That goes for newspapers, food, florists, restaurants, alcohol, banks, financial services, cars, office products, grocery stores, hotels. Everything is political. Right down to which peanut butter I buy.

Now, when I shop for products, I support companies that support Democratic and progressive values. I will not let my money be used by companies to support causes that oppose my beliefs. Why would I do that? … Unless I’m not aware.

I support companies that support Israel.

I support companies that are concerned about the environment. If they offset the pollution they produce, great.

I support companies that support legislation that promotes and protects diversity in the workplace.

I support companies that support pro choice.

I support companies that are commited to non-discrimination policies.

On the other hand:

I boycott companies that are Christian based.

I boycott companies that are pro life.

I boycott companies that support Republicans.

The next time you put a dollar down, think about it. Think about what you are supporting by this seemingly minimal transaction. I suggest it is not minimal. I suggest it is hugely important.

You’ve got to be kidding me. Pretty scary.

And I thought I’d like to travel to India one day.

Hey, how about throwing in a little edification on the Holocaust, while you’re at it.
