My Comments (16 so far…)

Who is your favorite newspaper columnist, the one you would follow anywhere?

I like Eugene Robinson very much as well as Frank Rich.   Miss Molly Ivins terribly.  I live in Texas and she kept me from escaping the state.  Now I’m too old and tired!

I read the oncology nurse and the pediatrician in the NYT Health section to keep track of some of the ethics and patient concern issues.  Then I read widely in the blogs, mostly left but quite a few right to keep up with who is thinking what and why.

I Was the Other Woman, by Jane Ganahl

My ex fell in love with my best friend 40 years ago and married her leaving me to raise a 1 year and a 4 year old.  It ended up being the best thing that ever happened to me since I had actually married my binge drinking father.  He didn’t cheat on his wife but they both drank heavily and she died young of an alcohol related problem. I think they were happy.  I’ve been very happy in a 38 year marriage and traveled the world along with having a great career while my partner and I raised these great kids. Being the other woman wouldn’t work for me either.  I am too outspoken and a relationship person.

Is Three in the Bedroom One Too Many? Maybe Not!

This was warm, sexy and funny at the same time.  About to turn 70, I think that I’ll stick to what I know. Boy, girl, and usually an escaped cat under the bed, with the dog whining outside the door. Now if I was way younger, hmmmmm.

Dalton Student Falls to Death in Possible Suicide

Suicide is not about dying, it is about escaping pain.   Most people who die by suicide are having a  mental health problem like depression, bi-polar disorder, addiction etc. , but not all.  In young people, impulse control is less ingrained and a variety of situational stimuli piling up can precipitate a crisis that culminates in a suicide attempt.  Sometimes but not always, symptoms of suicidal thinking can be seen by others.  Young people don’t have the experience yet to know that bad things can happen but life can and does get better if you just hang in there.

Local crisis centers can help someone who is suicidal or people who are concerned about friends or family members.  There is a national number for information or someone to talk to 24/7. 1-800-273-TALK (8255) .

Is Hillary Clinton being snubbed as Secretary of State?

I have to admit that I have wondered a bit about Hillary be over-manned a bit myself.  I don’t want her to be undercut or her power be diluted at all.  I think she brings lots to the table and I want to see her shine, shine, shine.  Lots of those folks reporting directly to the President have iron clad egos and might or probably try to elbow her around.   Kick them in the A**, Madame Secretary!!

Have you noticed that since she is overseas this week, Bill has been on every TV show but Sesame Street??  He owes her big time and someone needs to drag him out of the spotlight when she is in it.  It looks sickeningly competitive and who wants to hear him, anyway?   Lots of us grew up in addicted families, Bill!  Go to Al-anon and get rid of your unattractive behaviors, please.

Ginsburg Cancer Could Open Justice Seat for Another Woman

I totally respect and admire justice Ginsberg! When she chooses to retire, or another justice does, I fully expect another bright, liberal woman to take his or her place. As a matter of fact, we need several (read 3-4) women on the court similar to her with different similar and different racial and religious demographics, including Caucasian, Hispanic, Asian and Jewish. We do not need another Catholic since we already have five and they are over-represented. This is my hope and dream.

Cynthia McFadden Recalls Vitriolic Remarks Among John McCain Supporters Election Night

John McCain and his surrogates gave all the nasty mouthed voters voters permission to say ugly things about Obama. I will have a hard time forgiving him for that because it is so easy to have ugly words become the social norm. Cynthia certainly saw that AFTER the election. Those people with a predilection for bad-mouthing will just continue, contaminating all our air. In my growing up, we just weren’t allowed to say ugly things about anyone. We could disagree but never do character assassinations. I still get cold chills when I hear the ugly’s get going. Guess I expect the parents to rise from the dead and give the lecture about objective discourse. I also still believe they were right!

Ten Celebrity Hairstyles That Take Off Ten Years

I’m a very short haired blonde pixie due to fine hair. Folks tell me it suits me. Good thing!

Rachel Rules: How New MSNBC Host Has Taken TV By Storm

Rachael is amazing! She has a Ph.D., is a Rhodes Scholar, has a wicked sense of humor and a wonderful presence on television. She attracts both the usual pundits, and new and interesting folks who match her in intelligence and can bring a whole new look at issues. She makes an honest effort to bring on people with whom she doesn’t agree to try to understand their point of view and is respectful and gracious. Goodness, that’s a lost art! Her show is not stretched around gimmicks and every night is different. She is a deep blue pool of sanity away from the toxic rocks of punditry with a little bird on her shoulder that chirps at the BS.

Oprah, Glenn, Mary, Sally: Emmy Awards Fashion Winners or Losers?

I have strongly disliked Oprah’s hair since she started wearing it long and big. Looks like the big blonde look we used to have in Dallas that FINALLY was laid to rest about 10 years ago. This is not about her, It’s about her hairdresser. I also don’t think she is getting the correct hypothyroid treatment but then it takes a long time for some of us to get the correct information. The endocrinologists don’t always know it. I’m going to go to her website and see what she says she is doing. She shouldn’t have more trouble with her weight if she is getting the correct treatment. She might not get skinny either. I suspect she is on the wrong medication. Hypothyroid and an RN.

50 Sexiest Men Over 50: wowOwow's 2008 50-Over-50 List (Photos)

One of the greatest shocks I ever had was when I was in my 50’s and played bridge with a Latino in his 70’s. He was incredibly sexy and my motor ran all evening, even with my darling “younger than I” spouse across the table. I am seldom attracted to other men and to be turned on by someone 20 years older was just amazing. Live and learn.

The State of the Race: Pollster Dotty Lynch Speaks to wOw about the Mississippi Vote and More

I’m getting sick of the process and sick of Hillary too! Her campaign’s win at all cost strategy is probably no worse than other primaries but I thought this primary was going to be about ideas, not this crap! I have gone from being an Obama supporter but OK if Clinton wins to Obama had better win because I’m not sure I can gulp and vote for Hillary. An older white feminist civil rights worker , retired, who thinks this country is going to hell in a hand-basket right now. I don’t see how Hillary is the right person to change it, now that I am getting to know her as a candidate.

Should Silda Spitzer stand by her man?

Been there…. Some powerful Men seem to think that it is their right to use their spouses in some way even after their hands have been caught in one cookie jar or another. I think we woman ought to make a new rule that we don’t ever again stand next to our man after they have humiliated us and our family while he is publicly trying to explain it and/or advance in another way! The pain from her was almost overwhelming yesterday. I feel so much empathy for Silda. It is up to her about what she does about her marriage. We all have to walk that path out of the public eye.

Political Gossip I've Never Published

I loved Ann and many of the Austin women. They were role models for me before I ever moved to Texas from Wisconsin in 1979. It all started with Barbara Jordon…….

My Robbery Drama: Chapter Three

Leslie, to be invaded and loose treasured things seemed like a little death when it happened to me. Of course that invoked some grieving but of course no one brought cake and casseroles. It still hurt none-the-less but it gets better over time. I hope they find some DNA on that hat and nail that guy if he is guilty! I do love your work on 60 minutes. It is a pleasure to see you draw out your interviewee.
