wOw's Views on the News: Is it a Mistake to Hold the Olympics in Beijing?

Firstly, I thanks Ulla that you paid attention on my comments. “Strong and beautiful” is the wish of Chinese people for their country and also we hold the same idea of the world. We talk about the world in China, as well as our country and the government. As the matter of the fact, Olympics will be held in China no doubtly, and every Chinese will celebrate it as a great festival. “This Olympics is an entirely different situation that requires different tactics to achieve a satisfactory resolution.” Kareem Abdul-Jabbar,(who’s one of my admirable players in NBA history and a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame), expressed his views on Beijing Olympics, special to the L.A. Times. “Instead of turning our backs, we need to continue a dialogue with the Chinese.” I quote his words as follows: *The more we talk with each other, the more we understand each other and can reach compromises that will benefit the lives of those we are trying to help. Jackie Robinson once said that the great thing about athletics is that “you learn to act democracy, not just talk it.” That’s what our athletes will demonstrate to the 1 billion Chinese who may be watching. A second means of influencing the Chinese is through globalization, in which we share products, entertainment, and culture with others — and they share theirs with us — in order to break down the barriers that make us fear each other’s differences. The more we have in common, the more impact we can make. It’s all about building trust.* I think for many atheles, Olympics is a dream because they could join in it, experience it and enjoy it that they have done their best to train themselves for many years. Even they have the different views on the politics, they still hold the opinions that dialogue and communication could do many things. I firmly believe that Olympics is a marvellous chance to exchange cultures and ideas, letting more people around world to recognize China, while Chinese people also have the chance to learn more about of the world.

wOw's Views on the News: Is it a Mistake to Hold the Olympics in Beijing?

I remembered I saw an article in the Times Online, it talked about “Olympic games is never a simple thing for a country”. When people all around the world talk about it is whether or not a mistake to hold Olympics in Beijing, as a Chinese I hope people had better take it as a sport for the human being, not a political issue of China’s government. Olympics means many things, such as friendship, brotherhood, peace and so on, it is for human being, not just for a country. Holding Olympics is the dream for all the Chinese people for nearly 100 years, they are so proud of it that they want to show more things to let the world know China well. When the torch relay finished abroad and began at home, every Chinese would like to see it in their hometown or in other cities. We know, the torch relay brings the hope and dream of human, when it appears beside us, we could feel the power of it! Olympics is the door not only for China to prove itself, but also for the world to see what China is at present. We welcome every guest all around the world and we hope we could hold a great event for everyone who joins in it or enjoys it. I expect the day, Aug. 8th in 2008, and I hope I have the chance to watch the basketball match in Beijing, and have a chance to see the performance of Kobe Bryant and have his signature. Olympics is just the big party for human being. Let’s enjoy it!

Are there ever times when life should most profoundly not be taken seriously?

I always search for what I should take serious and what I should take easy. In my twenties, I think I should take the work and study serious while I should take the life easy. I should take the course serious while I should take the result easy. I should take myself serious while I should take others easy. I should take the mistakes serious while I should take the complements easy. I should take the actions serious while I should take the attitudes easy. … I think I am optimistic, maybe I could not undergo the disaster till now. What I faced as the difficulties are about the scores of my study, the results of my experiments, the frustration of misunderstanding by my friends and parents, and the passing away of my grandparents. When I came across the disappointing things and felt despairing, I would like to wait for another day and hope everything would be OK. This morning, I recieved my report card of an English Test, and I got an awful score. I have been working on it for several months, however the result made me so frustrate that I suspected my capability of my English. As the second language learning, I usually confuse how I can do well on it? But I told myself the whole morning that through the study of English for these months, I have a great progress comparing with before. And I found a lot of fun about it, and not viewed it as a task at all. I enjoyed the process rather than the result, that making me feel easy. I think I should take life serious when I am young, but sometimes, I need the space to take myself easy.

It's been 19 years since the protests in Tiananmen Square. What do you think about China today?

It really lets me down that when I talked something in this website, and I tried to understand what you were talking about and what you were thinking about and how did you look at China, and I express myself in my limited ENGLISH and hope I would bring something “new” that you’ve never known about China. I really don’t know what is the appropriate way to state my views, sensible or sensitive? Maybe I am a special Chinese female? Why am I special? When someone wonder whether I am a female, whether I am living in China, whether I am a Chinese, I feel so disappionted. When we communicate in this website, we should respect each other and at least respect the other’s view. When I found there are so many misunderstandings about China, I am so sorry about that. However, I believe that dialogue would make sense. And my purpose to join in this chat is trying to communicate with others to find the gap. I’m no offense to anyone intenally, as the traditional education in CHINA telling me. Maybe sometimes I lost my temper and if I could not express myself in suitable words, I really am sorry for that. By the way, most of Chinese people in the new generation, are independent, confident and self-discinplined, they prefer to accept challenges and be good at catching the chances. I believe there are many excellent Chinese studying in your city and even around with you, you could learn something from them. I can state my views because I experience everything in CHINA, and I like analyzing things around me, and I am keening to give you a Chinese thinking about why she has confidence about her country. I am pround my country, I am proud to be a Chinese. So, I think it is the reason why I would stay here to hear different voices from other people, to let me know what’s our disadvantages and we could improve ourselves. TOCTOC, thanks you’re along with me for these days, you taught me many things which made me aware and firm, it is time we Chinese people urgently go out of their country, to learn the world and let the world to listen our voice. I really hope that you have young Chinese friends who are from China recent years, maybe they will bring something new. Mugsy Peabody, thank you. In fact, I didn’t read something unsuitalbe in you comments, and I really appreciate your kindness. THANK YOU! 谢谢!

It's been 19 years since the protests in Tiananmen Square. What do you think about China today?

Mugsy Peabody, you are right. Ole Crone*2 and I could not persuade each other as we stand different point and see different Truth. I don’t deny that the Chinese government sometimes cover the truth and once used extreme measures to retain its power in some special time that not you western people but also Chinese people felt unfair and disappointed. However, we are in the different country and live in different culture and tradition, something is really hard to say if it’s right or wrong at that peorid, only time could examine everything. As what I could understand, and most of Chinese could express the same view, China, as a whole, it should not be divided by any organizaiton, individual or convention. That’s not just the belief of the government but also its people. Chinese government might have done something unhumane what we Chinese unknew and you USA knew clearly. Tibet, the focus of China which even overweighting the OLYMPICS, has caused hot dicussion here. China always would like to sovle the questions in peace, —2008 is special year to China, we have prepared for many years for the biggest sports event, China could not offense the whole world (“human right” what western countries criticize CHINA) to take military measures.— However, some Tibetans hope making use the Olympics to cause the world attention, such as robbing and putting out the torch in its rally in other countries. Do you think it’s suitibale for them to provent the torch which represent peace, brotherhood, and goodness? Another things I could not know if you have learned through the media, that some riots happened in Tibet in the middle March, the Tibetan thugs fired cars and shops and even the plain people! And China has invited the foreign media to interview in TIBET to know what truth is! Now, The life in Tibet is as usual now. Hoping we will solve problems in peace. And I hope we don’t associate OLYMPICS with politics. Olympics are the party for human being, let’s enjoy it.

Earth Day Care-toons by Jane Wagner

I could only make sense of “Marine Creature” and “Birdhouses”. “Marine Creature” issue is the global issue, it arouse the attention to the human being. “Birhouses”, the situation in China is a little different from yours. Chinese would like to own their house when they are mature or get married. However, the price is going up for these years, although the banks offer the loan, people still struggle to buy a house in big cities. “Batterfly Effect”,I love the film very much, as well as the Philosophy. We should care about what we do now which would cause serious effect for the future. As to “Charlotte’s Website” I’ve no idea.

It's been 19 years since the protests in Tiananmen Square. What do you think about China today?

I am sorry to say too much and eager to state my views. OK, I should calm down to exchange the information with you. In fact, I appreciate with you that you let me know why so many foreigners hold the different and even the opposite opinions of CHINA. We learn too many things in the different way, and it is hard to say who would see the truth. To be bluntly speaking, it is my first time to express my opinions about politics in English, and I also rarely in Chinese. And the purpose of my English Learning is to read literatures and expand my knowlege in NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC, not for debate in the American website. I hope we could exchange our culture and concepts, not just in the politics. Maybe it’s better way for both of us.

It's been 19 years since the protests in Tiananmen Square. What do you think about China today?

I THINK THERE ARE SOME MISTAKE ABOUT ON QUETION THAT I WANT TO PRESENT THE EDVIDENCES OF THETIBET”, NOTTIAN AN MEN ISSUE” (i have learn the truth of “tianan men issue”) “For Mr. WU to mention the Rape of Nanking as being a terrible thing, is true, by the hands of Japanese. What the mainland Chinese need to know is the Chinese did the very same behavior in Tibet! And the Chinese well know what the Japanese did in China! Do I need to say more? Your government has and is doing the same thing in Tibet! ” I JUST WONDER WHY YOU SAY OUR GOVERNMENT HAS AND IS DOING THE SAME THING INTIBET”, this made me angery and i want to the EVIDENCES! CHINA would not make the things like “SLAUGHTER”! It’s absolutely vilification! IF I WAS WRONG PLEASE SHOW ME THE EDVIDENCE! BY the way, if the SLAUGHTER has been over MANY years, then why the focus arose the whole world attention in this special year-2008?! It’s not just the simple coincidence! You heard your story of your Tibet friends, I also have a Tibet friend who told me other things! Every district has its poor men and rich men, has its fairness and unfairness, not just only in Tibet, It could happen in any other place, CHINA or WESTERN COUNTRY. I believed what you have learned are TRUE, but JUST REFLECTING ONE FACET of Tibet, maybe when they adding my stories would give us the TRUTH. It’s such a pity that we could know WHAT IT IS wholly!

It's been 19 years since the protests in Tiananmen Square. What do you think about China today?

And Lin Si, I question your authority as just a ‘regular’ Chinese citizen in China. You certainly carry a very ‘political’ perspective rather than a ‘human family’ desire away from myths and towards truths, cooperatively.” If you wonder why I have so many “political” perspective, it is no surprise! I have the education in China for 16 years, and what we learned about is to see a question with the angle in a whole, in another word, we should conider for our country at first, then the individual. In China, there’s one phrase that “Only our country is strong, we would have our family well.” The cultrue is maybe different from yours, and you would never understand why China could sacrifice individuals which means damaging human right! It’s our tradition and culture for thousands years, and it is called patriotism. Another reason, in my opinion, I would like to state issue in the rational way,is that i majar in Science and Technology which made me using induction to reveal my views. Moreover, I am more sensible than sensitive. It’s a tragedy of Tianan Men issue, and also a tragedy of China, in the special period. What we could learn is that we should use the peaceful method to solve the issue, not violence. As what I has made the hypothesis “IF CHINA BECAME THE SECOND RUSSIA”, maybe we don’t know what it was when we became a democratic country, however, we know what CHINA is now!

It's been 19 years since the protests in Tiananmen Square. What do you think about China today?

You still have not answered my question. I’ll ask it for the 3rd time: Why is it Lin Si that China today, such a large country, needs to possess Tiawan and Tibet?” In fact, I have answered your question after one of your comment on the 7 page. I could COPY IT for you as follows: Now I would say something about Tibet from one point,—not about the history but the future. China is a multi-nations country, so there are too many complex factors to put its people together. Tibet is just the link of them, if it loses, everything would change. OK, as you question: “Why I wonder, when China is so large, is it necessary for her to insist without any dialogue or compromise to have as her very own possession Tibet and Tiawan?” (Taiwan is another history issue, I would not discuss it this time.), I would reply that if China agrees its independence, then what other nations? EVERY nation in China has its glorious history and culture, however none of them has been great for a long time in the history of CHINA. (you said you have studied CHINESE HISTORY FROM SHANG DYNASTY, then you would know many nations had their periods to rule China, and own their warriors in their times.) Tibet’s indepence would cause chain reaction, then should China allow other nations to be independent? Ok, China is a LARGE country, but if every nation breaks away from China, China would become the little coutry that named BEIJING!

Today is Earth Day! What's the most wasteful thing that you do?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! “生日快乐” in CHINESE!

It's been 19 years since the protests in Tiananmen Square. What do you think about China today?

“I’ve heard the stories from my mainland adopted Chinese family: The Tibetans are lazy and dirty. Their view were so closed they missed out on the opportunity to enjoy my Tibetan friends. Wouldn’t even go to their home: Dirty dirty, they were sure.” You are right, many Chinese people would have the impressions that the Tibetans are “lazy”, ” dirty”, “poverty”.”secret” and so on! What’s the reason? Because we learned too few things about them! AND IT CAN BE ALSO EXPLAINED WHY SO MANY FOREIGNERS HAVE THE SIMILAR RECOGNIZATION OF CHINESE!!! It’s about Communication! Tibet has its own culture and because of the isolution of natural terrain, we, as the plain people know little thing about it, especially we are in the south and north of CHINA. SEVERAL YEARS AGO, people only visit to Lhasa by plane! However, with the transport has been improved, and there is a railway from BEIJING to Lhasa, many people could travel to TIBET, and learn more things about it! It also can be compared with the outside world to CHINA, only to travel and experience the life of China, you could know what you thought before would a mistake! ======================================== You said you have been China for 12 years in 1980s and 1990s, and I hope you could have a chance to return CHINA to see what has changed in last decade. It is really different, the development of China is leaps and bounds, of course including the spirits and concepts!

It's been 19 years since the protests in Tiananmen Square. What do you think about China today?

Chinese people never let Tiananmen Square not be done.” I am so sorry to make such a silly mistake!!! Chinese people NEVER let Tianan Men Square be done again !!!

It's been 19 years since the protests in Tiananmen Square. What do you think about China today?

It’s OK, I could learn what you mean! Thank you for your advice, to be a author is my dream since I was a little girl, however, maybe I would be an Chemical Engineer first, — I am a postgraduate now and major in Chemical Engineering. I knew the communication is very importance and I hope I could show my opinion clearly suitably with my English to let more people learning what CHINA is. It would make me appreciating! 谢谢!(THANKS!)

Today is Earth Day! What's the most wasteful thing that you do?

你好,Mugsy Peabody! It’s really a good idea! Maybe when i graduate in the coming year I would begin my business on it! By the way, I am a postgraduate in Dalian Universtity Technology, and major in Chemical Engineering. I could invent a new bag (using yours for reference) for people instead plastic ones!
