What Killed Microsoft’s Bid for Yahoo? Testosterone

I was a contractor at IBM Austin when Microsoft and IBM were trying to work together on a new operating system….OS/2. I only was an eye-witness to IBM’s side but I could that there was testosterone in the air, all around. Now, IBM is has many female mid-level managers but the most successf are oh so butch and in IBM jargon, “Have had their lobotomy” (being to IBM manager class) just like the boys and the boys rule all of the top positions. It was insane to think that these two could work together. And guess how won. Have you even HEARD of OS/2? Or eComStation? (the successor who lives mostly in Europe today). And if you can even find a new IBM computer (but no monitor or printer or laptop), guess what operating system it comes it? Yes, Linux is an opinion. Yeah, right

I hope that it is only that bad. But i fear the population bomb is abound to go non-linear and resource wars and food riots will spread and escalate. I fear gigadeath is on the horizon. Just a matter of when.

This we take from Satchel Paige: How old would you be if you didn't know how old you were?

Edith Ann will like that if she ever grows up to know the volcabulary word!

My age. Since I so got over being 40, I forget all of the time. I just don’t care. Let’s……I’m 55. Better check the driver’s license, yep, 55. I feel like death except I hurt too much, smarter than a Republican but not as quiet as I was, gray as I have earned (I worked HARD for those gray hairs!) and every day is a blessing but too damn short. bob mirabile, I was divorced and the sweet victory of being able to speak to ex without going down that Dark Road of Herstory did not happen until about 15 years after. I hope you get over it sooner. “You cannot erase memories….but you can record over them with better ones!” an eagle and like it all..but i have a question evertime i see my ex aftee a 30 marriage i get all stupid and tingly . i have moved on but cant seem to let go all they way is this normal

Life in the Little Lane: Edith Ann on Riddles

in the Mighty Name of the old National Lampoon, “That ain’t funny, it’s sick”. Or in other words, you have a Wicked Sense of Humor. Not really a Bad Thang. Require good timing and delivery though.

oops - scratch that -er, it’s A Big Red Rock Eater. I am afraid my Freudian slip is showing (listening to Zeppelin and Z-Trip)

I wonder how it will be before Air Amerika will kick her off like Randy Rhodes and Mike Malloy?

That is related to an old one I heard: What is red and green and goes ‘round and ‘round real fast. A frog in a blender.

What is big and red and eats rocks? … A Big Red Rocker Eater! Beware - today is the annual O.Henry Pun-off (ful) in Austin, TX!

wOw's Views on the News: Is It Time for Clinton or Obama to Throw In the Towel?

Wrong question. The question is, how in the holy hell do we shorten this TWO YEAR election cycle to two months. Okay, that is not realistic, make it three. Have the New Hampshire primary in August and all of the rest before the end of September and then the conventions in the first week of October - both at the same time. Then the election in November - and get rid of the undemocratic electoral college and all e-votes and hand count ballot with prison terms for cheating. I know. It would be like having the IRS actually just tell us what we owe and we pay. An entire industry of unnecessary people, consultants, pollsters, advertisers, media pundits, etc., would out of high paying jobs. Good.

What is your definition of retirement?

Freedom. When the first of the month is here and either rent, mortgage payment, or if you are very lucky or smart enough to have planned ahead, just the escrow payment for taxes and insurance is due and you rip off a check….AND for the rest of your life, you are doing exact what ever you want without a thought or care of writing one the next month, or the next, or the next, for as far as you know. Freedom. I cannot wait. I will raise hell! “We got just four minutes to change the world!”

Bailing Out Bear Stearns and Other Mother Earth Care-toons by Jane Wagner

Wow - I never thought it but I guess whale actually do have a “carbon footprint” - all animals breathe in oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. But they eat the small animals and keep them in balance and those animals (or the animals they eat) eat plants. Mmmm. Plant exchange carbon dioxide for oxygen so they have a negative carbon footprint, so if we get rid of ALL the animals, we will eventually solve the problems. I vote for another solution, please. I want the human race to continue, thank you, and our other animal friends in the biosphere. Best long term solution: Limit your reproduction.

Whoopi: Why Isn't Anyone Screaming About Taxes?

I was talking to my brother the other night and he has the exact comments about all of the little items tacked on to his cell phone bill. It adds up to about a 25% tax. But it is a rare thing for me to disagree with Whoopi, but with the devaulation of the dollar (which I believe is intentional) and the massive debts, and worse of all, the Middle East meat grinder that has more of our troops killing themselves than the enemy has, it is the latter that me driven to tears at least once a day. And the megadeath. U.S. policy has sure to have murdered at least a million people in the MidEast since Reagan, if not more, and several hundred thousand directly butchered by us. I would gladly pay these taxes if they gave health care and education and feed the hungry and house the homeless. And to put the traitors in the White House in prison, on Death Row. IMPEACH, CONVICT, and EXECUTE the war criminals.

What is the most life-changing book you've ever read?

Rest at pale evening… A tall slim tree… Night coming tenderly Black like me. From Langston Hughes, a white journalist finds the title of a book he wrote about his experience as a black man in the South in 1959. I read John Griffin’s “Black Like Me” in about 1966 and his tale of living the black experience by shaving his head and having a doctor darken his skin, shook my very soul. Understand that EVERY in my lily-white family and friends were racist to the core. People very comfortable with the N-word. They believed they were very superior to all blacks in the world. I knew from early age they were wrong but until I read this book at 14 did I know that there were other white people who knew that also. I learned that every single person I knew and loved believed a Great Untruth and bought into a Great Evil. They made the mistake of leaving me alone with a library card in that Holy Temple of Knowledge and the revolution was on. I pray that we live 2 to see the Dawn. The Superdome Hell will never happen in America again.
