Amelie—Fording was bought out by Teck Cominco for $82 US cash plus about .25 Teck shares. Re my market results got a bit scuffed up but should end the end profitably and enjoy higher dividend income than in 2007. Been accumulating Canadian Oil Sands Trust and Diana. Bought both today for myself and the fiduciary accounts I manage. Canadian Oil Sands Trust is very special because 1-Owns about 38% royalty interest of a proven fully developed oil field the size of Florida in politically stable Canada. 2-It’s cost of production per barrel is $35 and change. The practical floor for oil prices is $55 per barrel because that’s what Saudi Arabia has to earn to support it’s government and highly subsidized economy. Venezuala and Russia need closer to $90 per barrel to meet their nuts. 3-Oil Sands created a significant tax shelter enabling it to pay above average dividends for 1-3 years after the 2011 Canadian tax reform abolishing income trusts goes into effect. 4-I think the ultimate value of Oil Sands is $200+. Diana is the best of the dry bulk shippers. Corporate policy is to pay out 100% of net income in dividends. The fleet is fully booked through the 1st quarter of 2009 with about 75% chartered at top prices through 2010 and beyond. Pays an 18% qualified dividend.

Don—Don’t read my posts if they upset you. Those WOWOWOW readers who bought Diana Shipping (DSX) and Canadian Oil Sands Trust (COSWF) as per my recommendation above made themselves a quick buck. I recommend holding on to them for the long term for both dividends and growth.

Re my above comment a couple of women who expressed interest in me played the I’m-too-busy-for-next-couple of weeks routine to make a date. Made a date a few weeks out with one who seemed particularly promising but broke it when a savvier lady met me almost immediately to quickly become my girlfriend. More than ever it’s a man’s world.

Mommy Dearest—Consider this. Buffett is widely admired and consulted by politicians of all stripes. He was silent about the credit crisis as it developed and in fact suffered major losses in key stocks he holds like General Electric and Wells Fargo. Not only was I warning about the subprime crisis long before it happened, I dumped my GE and Wells Fargo before they tanked.

I disagree with Buffett. Picking bottoms is a dangerous game in a bear market particularly this one which is just starting. Successful enough at this game for 35+ years to have lived on dividend income for 20 years I’m remaining 50% in cash. I recommend Diana Shipping (DSX) and Canadian Oil Sands Trust (COSWF).

Zip It—There is a linear relationship between the numbers of women entering the workforce and the obesity epidemic. Working mothers are less likely to prepare nutritious homemade food causing adults and children to rely on junk food. Overworked, tired mothers are less inclined to supervise after dinner snacking, another important contributor to obesity. When I was in medical school in the 1960s, never saw a case of adult onset diabetes in children. Now it’s become epidemic. The sad irony is women won the right to work for no net financial gain as it now takes two family incomes to almost duplicate what one provided as late as the early 1970s.

Phylis—What you think is disrespect is the inability of women to take criticism at the same time they can sure dish it out. I stick by the main ideas I’ve posted here that feminism (1) destroyed stable family life (2) wrecked the economy (3) is responsible for the obesity epidemic and (4) America’s endless bankrupting wars to impose the blessings of feminism on a very reluctance Islamic world. Understandable Muslim guys deciding to blow themselves rather than end up getting treated by their women the way ours treat us.
