Hi Jane — Buying a Prius sounded very nice in 2006, but NOW people are losing their jobs (maybe something you don’t worry about) and their health care and their pensions, and you can buy very green American cars & save American workers their jobs! An American car with good gas mileage may not be as “green” as a Prius, but you can go green in other ways, without aggravating the human misery factor. I realize your intentions were 100% good, but just your perspective needs to be broadened re: the “big picture.”

Mary — I applaud you for at least seeing the bigger issue here, and taking a stand, although I wonder: do you lget around — I don’t see you relying exclusively by subway or foot. So do you use a car service, al eased car, or a company-provided driver? I mean, the big message I am getting from the answers to this question is that the women of WOW really don’t have the slightest clue how the rest of us live!

Hi Liz— Now there you go again, blaming the US’s love of “foreign oil” and “everybody [else] resisting going green?” I’m sure your BMW gets great gas mileage, but “me thinks thou doest protest too much!” You could trade that BMW in for an American model (made by American workers) that will get you excellent mileage. It won’t have the cache of a BMW, but let that be your personal sacrifice.

Hi James — is that you in front of your open refridgerator door? Yes, you tell her! Does she read the papers? I haven’t owned a car for 10+ years, use public transit, cabs and my feet, and I know when I am ready to buy my next car, it will be an American-made car!

Hi Candace— I would offer my “buy American” sentiments to others who responded to your comment, so it is not just directed to you and your economic class! It is a matter of consciousness, not class!

Hi Candace, Well, your answer does seem like the answer of a child of privilege. And an Adult of privilege for that matter. But we should all think of buying American — not just cars, but everyday items, again. Perhaps fewer of us would be out of work!

Hi Carmel/b/t/s/p/b—this IS a new Camelot. I was just 8 when Kennedy was elected, and recall a lot of the magic, but much of it was by “proxy” — what does an 8-11 year old know? I really feel much more Obama’s “spell” more, as I am an adult, and had just about given up on politics before he came along. Enjoy!
