Have you ever had to consciously choose between starting a family and getting ahead in your career?

I was a "stay at home" mom until my youngest of three entered kindergarten. Lots of spaghetti, homemade soup, stews, and garage sale shopping, but I wouldn’t  have done it any other way. Also, the career of choice in teaching was an advantage by having similar hours, vacations, etc. while children were in school along with summers off. Family has always come first..raising children to be well adjusted and productive was the focus. Our kids are now grown parents themselves who have continued with the family first value. They and their spouses are all employed, but have chosen careers/work schedules that allow for priority parenting.

 S G , I agree  Washington has GOT to support the concept that health-care reform is necessary NOW and we can’t afford political grandstanding anymore. This issue has dragged out and gotten worse since Clinton tried to address it and got shot down over 12 years ago. I will state, although agreeing with the president on the main issue of reform, I’m not clear of any details other than using technology to reduce paperwork. I think the details are  confusing for many citizens. The politicians are another story. The opposition will stalemate this until we end up with another major crisis as we have with our economy. The ‘I told you so’s will be pointless by then.

Does anyone know how this poor young man was captured? Was he   seperated from his group? If so, how? I haven’t really heard, or must have missed this information. My prayers are with him and his family.. God only knows how this will turn out.

You don’t have to necessarily live it to know a generalization about it. As an educator for over 20 years, I can make basically the same points President Obama  or Bill Cosby made  simply from my experiences dealing with parental neglect and irresponsibility and the effects on children. Any excuse to slam Obama- hohum

Look to the wealthy as well, Kelly. Absent parents and abusive neglect abound there, also. They just put up a better front because they fling money at the kids and pay others to entertain them. Allowing children free range and little guidance, passing off responsibility to others is not just a "welfare" issue.

Unfortunately the targeted audiences don’t watch newsworthy content on TV or care to be told how to raise their kids. The old adages "out of sight, out of mind" or "not my kid, must be your fault" are used way too often by many parents. The kids control the households now. An on-going battle for this 25 year experienced teacher. Parents don’t even talk to their kids anymore, I mean REALLY talk. No family dinners with daily discussions around the table.. either meals are catch as catch can at the coffee table in front of the tube, or they’re too busy traveling to soccer practice, dance practice, playing video games, etc. Socio-economic backgrounds make no difference.

Ladies, Think Twice About Taking Hormone Replacement Therapy for Menopause

 I’m a believer in the less drugs, hormones, unnatural junk we put in our bodies the better. I’m 56, fortunately healthy, happy, and don’t dwell on discomforts, but count my blessings for every blessed day I have on this earth. I use post it notes for my memory,for confusion.. I chalk up to simple brain farts, and with mood swings… again, I count my blessings instead and look at the big picture.. could be worse. But for those who feel the need to turn to pharmaceutical help, well.. it’s your life.

Hey, my take is all my female ancestors survived the "big meno" au naturale, so can I. Yes, I have hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, etc., but know that all this shall pass or at least diminish over time. We are such a society now who can’t handle the slightest discomfort, willing to try any pharmaceutical product to relieve it. Drugs, drugs, drugs. And then we wonder why the increase of cancers cases. Nope- I’ll survive and age naturally, thank you.

Of course Repubs aren’t satisfied. That’s the name of the OLD game, which they just can’t progress away from. It’s time to do what’s best, choose who’s best, not rant because it’s not the GOP choice. Stop the partisan BS already! We need diversity in this country in all areas of our government, we need fresh insight, vision for this country. The GOP just doesn’t get it, yet. Times are achangin’.

Not concerned in the least. He initially told people the recovery would take TIME, that unemployment would continue to rise even if the economy shows signs of recovery, and that it would be a matter of two steps forward, one step back. I’m patient, watchful, giving it the full 2 years that he asked for to resolve the mess that developed over the previous 8. We are a people who have been used to instant gratification, and the GOP is perpetuating this, as is natural being the opposing party and tired of having fingers pointed at them for this crisis. I thoroughly enjoy watching this first family and feel comfortable with Obama doing his job. Ask me again in 2 years if I’m worried- I will give him that much time. No need for replies by the standard Obama haters on this post. It’s my opinion and I’m completely at peace with it.
