My Comments (445 so far…)

Have you ever switched political parties?

I started out Republican duirng my college years but by my 30’s, I began to notice a more progressive approach by the Democrats while Republicans remained more stagnant- switiched parties and have never regretted my decision. Democrats remain a more visionary party with progressive views on issues. When it comes to presidential candidates, I will vote for the person I feel will best serve this country. I voted for Reagan, voted for GB, and GWB the first term.

Now that we've passed the 100-day mark, what do you think has been President Barack Obama's best move since gaining office?

I like his open communication with the people and honesty in his efforts. I’m not expecting perfection, or instant fix for all of this country’s woes. I repect the man for jumping into this mess and trying. I give hime an A for effort, B for results so far.

Aborted Fetus Banners Flying Over Notre Dame in Opposition to Obama

Talk about disrespect for human life!! A banner with a picture of a dead fetus?! The university should squelched that kind of disgusting display. That’s right up there with the other nut-balls who bomb abortion clinics injuring even killing people all in the name of "pro-life". Ridiculous

Kirstie Alley Talks About Weight Gain on Thursday's 'Oprah'

I agree with DeBurca. We need to look upon celebrities as just people doing a job. Their job is to entertain, not be poster children for causes. We need to stop placing these people up on pedestals and then they won’t feel like they have so far to fall just by being human. Kirstie is revered for her acting talent, not her weight. Weight gain/loss is her business, not our’s. Our business is enjoying her talent on screen, period. it’s not insensitive, it’s actually more compassionate.. allowing her to just be  her.

Spring is in the air! Tell us: Do you garden?

Perennials, annuals, herbs, and veggies. Gardening is calming for me although I HATE pulling weeds! Living in the country the weeds are very stubborn no matter what I try and are truly drought resistant- ugh. But I love the end products of my labor. Also a benefit is, while gardening, I’m away from the fridge and burning some calories. :)

When a company's opinions or stances are discordant with your own, are you reluctant to buy from them?

Sorry, it’s all about bang for the buck with me. I guess I’m too self focused with my hard earned money to pay attention to political connections with retail companies/products.

Memory Worries Make Matters Worse

Thank heavens for post its! I slap those things on my dashboard, eyeglass case, wherever I know I’ll look to remind me of an errand or a "to do" thing. I think mainly we are on info. overload, both receptive and expressive. Having a mother with Alzheimer’s, I do wonder about developing it, but I refuse to stress over it. What will be, will be.

Do you have a will? What events in your life could move you or have moved you to change or update it?

Yes, we’ve had a Will since the kids were little with a provision of care for them in place. We updated our Will once the kids were grown and independent. We also have Living Wills and Power of Attorney in place. Our  children, two of them with children, have recently created Wills. Without a Will, even if you have no assets, create such a headache for loved ones after your passing. At the very least, everyone should have Living Wills in place especially if you’re over 50.

How do you define success?

I feel successful knowing my kids are grown, responsible, gainfully employed adults who are happy in their lives. I feel successful when I count the number of friends I have, truly dear friends who will always be there for me if/when needed. I feel successful when the parents of my students with special needs tell me how happy they are with their child’s progress. I feel successful that my 34 year marriage is sound, thriving, and my husband and I still enjoy each other. I feel successful that I’ve maintained my weight and have kept my body relatively healthy without the use of much pharmaceutical help. I feel successful and blessed in my life’s goals and accomplishments. Material things are not a measure of my success.

What is your favorite cookbook of all time? Do you remember any special recipe you love from it?

I’m not one to use a cookbook often. I’m more a usually a little of this, some of that kind of cook. But through the years I have referred to Better Homes and Garden (an old one from the 50’s of Mom’s) and being from Ohio, an Amish Country Cookbook. Of course in that one every recipe is in mass quantity or calls for lard, so I’ve had to make adjustments- ha

How many magazine subscriptions do you have?

I find  magazines are  3/4 advertisements and 1/4 any real content. Never was a buyer- waste of money and paper.

As we fight through difficult times, what might be the blessings of adversity?

The blessing in these hard times is to give ourselves a moment to actually count our blessings. I have, and found that I have many; Simple blessings which are more treasured, more potent than the artificial ones I thought were more important. I now understand what my Mom ( a product of the Depression) meant when she always said to appreciate the "little" things in life, protect and cherish them, for in the end it’s those blessings that will sustain me always. Once again, mothers are right.
