Driving skills? Handwriting? What do you find is the strongest indicator of someone's personality?

I work part-time at night in retail and for myself, the customers come first. If one chooses to stand there and tell me their life story or what is on thier mind, I listen regardless of the time it takes. I can play catch up later. And many of them have been the individuals who write the letters and make the phone calls to management letting them know you took time just for them. My daughter does not shift jobs very often, but when she does her regulars follow her to the next place, which helps her establish herself in the new job. She had one for quite a few years who writes reviews for the New York papers, but keeps a home based mansion in this area. Knowing that my grandson has always loved film, he would bring tickets, etc. to local productions to her for Austin. He knew these were items she probably would not be able to obtain on her own, but just a thank you and respect for the time she gave him also. I think that is a premise at the core of many peoples desires, is just time spent and respected listening without judging who they are. In any service field, you have to desire to listen, people know the difference. Just my thoughts.

biggest indicator to me is how they speak of others when the subject of the conversation is not present

Agree 1000%!

I rescued a retriever mix a couple of years ago, the shelter named him Popcorn because of freckles on his nose. I tried calling him by that name and he wouldn’t respond. I asked for a name that he would respond with and was given Comet. Called him by that name and he came running like a long lost friend. Comet did not seem like a fit, but the name was evidently at some point connected to him and love, so Comet he is! His name was like a key that unlocked his heart again.

Servers have to declare thier tips. When my daughter declares her tips against the 2.75 an hour of pay, her paychecks have been zero for years. The paycheck is taken in taxes against the tips. There isn’t a paycheck for income being a server, only the tips. To suggest that tips be reduced when the paycheck is already zero really showed a moment of ingnorance on Oprah’s part in not understanding the ratios. The only thing she acomplished is rather than a server working and carrying trays 8 hours a day, now they are doing it for 10 hours a day.

Eyes, and the feeling I get inside. I have met people who are incredible to look at, who also make my stomach flip and feel nauseated being around them - trusting my own gut instinct.

My daughter works as a server and these times have been brutal. Every tip is thier lifeline in how they can take care of family. Oprah made a suggestion not too long ago to reduce tipping, which has also stung servers - if Oprah says to do it, people just follow.

Do you have evidence that the charities you support are really making a difference?

I collect coats and do what I can for the local Catholic Charities. They help people regardless of their religion or status. Good people in this area, doing a great job!

A Ghost Story, by Joan Juliet Buck (Audio)

You were great! Using that deep voice midway through saying "Get out of the room"! brought the attention right back. lol

I USE to have my moments when I would taunt spirit for a reaction, I was in my bedroom one day all by myself in this big old house and in one of those moods. I knew there was something around but really was not in the mood, so I just said "if your here, prove it!" The mattress to my bed instantly rose up in puffs like it had a very thick decub pad under it. I jumped up, and went down the stairs in record time, not even sure I was breathing while I was running. Got to the living room and just heard a voice say "do you have anything else you want to ask for?" "Hell no! I promise to quit taunting and you can promise to not scare me!" Life became much more gentle after that both ways.

'Pilots Have Been Sleeping in Airplanes Since There Were Airplanes'

I do think the pilots should be held accountable, if they are just an example of pilots in general then let it be an example to the other pilots in the air. The airline itself will know what was happening regardless if the general population is made aware or not. I have been to Atchison, Kansas and the home of Amelia. I imagine in the future that town will see more traffic just as the bridges did in Madison County years ago. Seeing the bridges in Iowa,  I would recomend, not sure about Atchison. I am grateful for the auto pilot in this case, but whose air space were they in that could have been a disastor. Mr. Perkins is just the messenger, and if it woke people up - he did his job.

Bob,

What is an answer to correct the problems with overworkerd pilots, boredom, etc? What is the ratio of military pilots becoming commercial pilots, are they recruited out of the service to take these positions? My dad was an piot in the service and I know that love for flying just doesn’t evaporate with a discharge. We have heard for years about the ground crews being stressed and overworked - when you add the ones in the air to the fold it sounds pretty scarey. Sounds like auto pilot is almost a safety measure being used in flight. Overall, transporting millions of people without crashing the plane is safer than other transportation though there must be additional checkpoints that could be used to keep the pilots attention.

'Pilots Have Been Sleeping in Airplanes Since There Were Airplanes'

I agree that they probably were sleeping and having admitted that would open up the airline to negligience. I love WOW, but it is formatted and based on success in life rather than everyday experiences by people. A glimpse into thier lives. The real stories that we hear, would not make headliners for WOW.

'Pilots Have Been Sleeping in Airplanes Since There Were Airplanes'

Didn’t they conclude they were on laptops, and not sleeping? When you have that many lives counting on you at least be awake and aware with the right focus. And frankly right now, I am tired of hearing about those who are employed and griping about thier paychecks, from pilots to assembly lines, or in this area union Ford plant workers and bus school drivers.

Mr. wOw Salutes a Bride

Have you ever listened to Ivanka speak? She speaks with intellect, focus and not only concern but committment in what she chooses to take on. Far different than Paris, who very well might be smarter than she chooses to convey. Not all are about a bed and breakfast life of existence.

Mr. wOw Salutes a Bride

Ivanka is smart, educated and part of a generation who lives life unfiltered as they choose, whether through twitter or facebook type sites. The knowledge of experience she has already has in life through watching her parents gives her a personal balance in how she conducts her life, rich but with incredible street smarts also. Not a bad combination. She is focused and committed, if her husband continues to respect her in that space, they will do fine.

Cemeteries Dying Out: Mr. wOw's Plan B

I have asked my children to cremate me, no funeral and they can celebrate later if they choose. I can not stand going to cemetary’s now and sure would not want to become part of one or have my children feel a need to return to that memory over again. They have been told to take the ashes to a mountain and throw them to the wind, I guarantee I will take over the flying from there.
