Liz Smith: Gays Don't Have the Same Rights as People on Death Row

That means a lot to me to hear from you. I will take that lovely complement into the dream time as I call it a day. Thank you.

What concerns you more?

Frank, Poignant post…are you referring to countries that don’t have abundant education about birth control or easy access to it? I am in agreement with others that have posted that education is key. I don’t think that capping the number of children a family can have is the way. There are so many young women I speak with that adamantly express no desire to have kids. I have come to realize that not everyone is cut out to be a parent. I’m wondering if people chose consciously and were selecting from a vast array of informed choices of what to do with their lives (kids/no kids) if a natural balance would be restored. Some people were designed to have and love 5 children and raise them well. Others have different gifts and lack the skills to parent. Is it possible that if each group had self-awareness and could connect with what is their true path that we would have the “appropriate” numbers. Again, education is the key. What do you think? I’m sleepy…hope that made sense. :)

Too Thin? To Jail! Should the French Government Take the Matter of Eating Disorders Into Its Own Hands? by Judith Weinraub

Yes, Liza. I think you are very right. It is an act of desperation. One of many questionable approaches to try to bring balance into a world that has gone askew. I agree with Kitty that your courage to share your insights benefit many. :)

James: Have you read “You Can Heal Your Life,” by Louise Hay? Or “Love, Medicine and Miracles ’ by Dr.Bernie Siegel? There are so many more…I venture a guess some are in your library based on your very progressive viewpoint. I was educated in the “science” of medicine many moons ago. I was a “left brain” on legs. If someone said hello to me at work I’d say “do you have a study to support that?” (only kidding but not too far from the truth.) When I began to discover the exceptions to the “rules,” the groups of patients that “defied” the studies I clung too and learned from many a doctor the imprecision in medicine, it took awhile to recover from my scientific disillusionment. Then I said to myself well, maybe there is more to this health and healing thing. It has been an interesting journey to witness just how much more there is. Nice to hear from someone that sees this , too. :)

Liz Smith: Gays Don't Have the Same Rights as People on Death Row

Guess we’ve got the beginnings of a “Mutual Admiration Club.” Liza, I find you to write with an effervescence and sweetness, no matter what the topic and it brings a breath of fresh air to the moment. Frank, you’re just a sweetheart but I need not remind you because Wow women frequently do. (well…can one be told that too often…probably not!) Lena (wherever you are), you convey a radiance in your expression that shines and always makes me smile. Renata, hmm-one word here, “passionate” and for me that’s to be admired. Kitty, I learn from just about everything you write and I find myself intrigued and wondering when I see your avatar, “what does she have to say today?” Bean…you just keep me on my toes. Sometimes you raise my eyebrows and once in awhile make my jaw drop but you are consistently…”Bean-like” and that in it’s own way is quite wonderful. Ut-oh, I have to close for now as a meeting calls . Yikes, I didn’t get to Maggi, Frannie, Mugsy, Renata, James, and the list goes on. In time, in time…For now let me say that I am very grateful to have discovered this site and to have the privilege to meet it’s community. Each and every one…even you Dr. Klein who helped me learn how to yell politely with a cyber voice.

What concerns you more?

Mary Lou and Maggi, Have you read or heard about the theory of abundance vs. scarcity? I know it’s kind of “out there,” but its one I reflect on a lot lately. For example, isn’t it funny how a group of women can sit around a table at McDonalds with their little ones and talk about how tragic it is that children are starving in third world nations then get up , smooth their shirt and toss all of the food their kids just nibbled at into the trash (without a thought!) I could offer up endless other scenarios of this kind (including campaign budgets for candidates that will talk about the poverty we need to address - does not compute to me!) Is it possible that we aren’t “running out, overcrowded, too populated”,etc but that in fact “there’s enough.” Is it possible that all we are really lacking is consciousness? Being awake to how and why we do what we do? Go easy on me in your response…it’s just a thought…:)

Frank…your posts on this subject are so right on for me (including the one you thought you’d get blasted for). I can’t add a thing. So I will copy paste for emphasis on this delicate yet important subject. “Let people be free to love in any way they wish—for it’s love that gives us the grace to go on daily, at least it is for me. What could be more important than that?” “Let people be free to love. Let people be free to love. Let people be free to love”

With the acceleration of the times we’re in James, I don’t think it will take twenty years. Many who have hit a wall with Western medicine and it’s approaches, that formerly maintained all else was “hocus-pocus,” when their health was in serious jeopardy, conceded to try a different approach. (“desperate times…desperate measures”) When they were successful in restoring health with non-conventional means and tapped into some of that self-healing you referenced…they were pontificating, too! :)

wOw's Views on the News: Cell Phones and Brain Cancer - Is There a Link?

The debate regarding the brain cancer/cell phone connection is certainly not new. Each time a study has implicated cell phone use it seems fast on its heels a counter study is contradicting those findings. At the risk of sounding distrustful, cell phones are very big business (2 billion/year) and also a convenience that increasing numbers of people can’t imaging being without. Any study needs to be assessed on so many levels before it can be deemed valid. Look at the pharmaceutical industry and it’s studies, bias and special interests, for example. Personally, I believe strongly in the connection between brain cancer and cell phone use. I also think that from a business perspective there are those that are invested in the economics of this question as opposed to the truth regarding safety and health. I was very happy to this subject addressed on Larry King in the manner that it was. Two women that I know are currently under 45 yrs of age and battling brain cancer. They were both excessive cell phone users (work-related). Clearly that is two random individuals and does not a study make. My intuition on this one though says it’s a huge problem and as people are in greater numbers growing dependent on cell phones (some don’t even own home phones anymore), I predict there will be an insidious rise in brain cancer cases. I hope that as the question is being answered with certainty, that people will make the choice to err on the side of caution and limit their use as much as possible. I do…

What were you told a 'real lady' had to do?

Ah…your parents sound lovely…and the acorn never falls far from the tree, Frank. :)

What were you told a 'real lady' had to do?

The “underpants spiel” (tee-hee). Is there anyone out there that wasn’t given the “underpants spiel?” Step forward bravely if you can confess that this is a new one on you… :) Anyone…

What were you told a 'real lady' had to do?

Love that one. You can tell it was sage advice as it still applies today unlike some of the other pearls that were passed on. :)

What were you told a 'real lady' had to do?

Walk with your shoulders back;don’t slump” “Show gratitude in all things” “Never drink beer from a bottle” (of course the universal “clean undies”) “Don’t swear” and those are just a handful…
