Thirteen Gray-Haired Beauties From Business and Hollywood

Call me madcap, but I never thought of Queen Elizabeth as a “beauty from business and Hollywood”. Don’t adjust your monitors, Everyone of these women has color-corrected hair and many are blonde.

Nobody, Including Barack Obama Himself, Expected It

I think we are having a political “Elvis” moment—a moment (like 1956) when the culture experiences a seismic shift and is changed forever. Young people have never know anything but cynical white Christian males as President. And some of us geezers also hunger for a fresh, inspiring voice and a President who can complete a sentence. IMO, all elections are a response to the previous administration. Tricky Dick Nixon (sorry, Monica Crowley) begat Squeaky Clean Jimmy Carter. Inarticulate George w. Bush begat a candidate with impressive communcation skills and rock-star charisma. (Last time I looked, communication skills were still part of the job description for Leader of the Free World). I belive our country is more color-blind than we think. Remember that one of the most powerful women on the planet is over 50, overweight and Black. (Oprah). All that having been said, I hope he chooses Hillary and I also love Michelle’s fashion sense. All revolutions need iconic outfits!!! :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5JALwwaASg&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjG3xPxK4Bw

Lost Heroines: Angel of the Battlefield

Clara Barton has not been forgotten. http://www.nps.gov/clba/ She’s an admirable woman to be sure, but who are we going to discover next week: Marilyn Monroe? Eleanor Roosevelt? What Wow is forgetting is that we come here to find things we won’t find anywhere else. Sorry, but a clumsily written bio about one of the most famous women in history is not that enlightening for those of us who studied this stuff in grammar school.

The Real Men and Women of Madison Avenue

Perhaps the city grabbed the “opportunity” too quickly. They certainly didn’t get much for the site. I think I read it was 56 or 58 million. It’s hard to believe that a midtown building built in 1955 is “falling down”. The deal was struck secretly because people would have gone nuts. We have lost so much to the real estate interests. The 26th Flea Market is another sad example of a vanishing NY.

Christie Brinkley Chose the Right Divorce Lawyer

Excellent post, Erica. Yours is a very welcome voice on wowOwow.

The Real Men and Women of Madison Avenue

Speaking of the New York Public Library, are any of the New Yorkers on board aware that the Donnell Library is being torn down to make way for a “21” Club Hotel?

The Real Men and Women of Madison Avenue

Again Emcye, could you translate? Some of us are old school.

The Real Men and Women of Madison Avenue

Emcye, Could you translate that please? As Freud said, “Sometimes a cigar is only a cigar.” The creative revolution stripped advertising of its pomposity. Ideas were clear, strategic and witty. They sold stuff and made their brands famous. The industry stopped being a Wasp Country Club/ Connections business and became about creative talent. Pedigrees didn’t matter—briliance did. The internet has changed everything. It has also changed nothing. A shopper’s favorite four letter word is still Sale. I’m so glad Mary and the other Mad Women are getting this tribute. Long overdue.

Lost Heroines: A Balletic Omen, an Unsuspecting Dancer

I think there is a technical glitch on this thread. There are 11 responses prior to this one. but the home page only shows 3. ????

Lost Heroines: A Balletic Omen, an Unsuspecting Dancer

This piece is so wonderful. And thanks to Frank for posting this lost video.

Panty Hose, Former Symbol of Women’s Lib, Dead at 43

Again, I am forced to ask—who is writing this stuff? It is so unsophisticated and silly. The reason market share for pantyhose (and men’s ties) has declined is because of the trend toward casual workplace attire. Women still wear shapewear. Ever hear of Spanx? The stuff looks like sausage casings. Oh, and “torpedo bras” were from the fifties. In the 60’s we wore no bras or something called the “no bra by John Kloss”. Just ask any man of a certain age. Lacey, pretty garter belts did a lot more than just hold up stockings!

wowOwow Salutes Our Friend, Tim Russert

I too, am sad to learn of the untimely death of Tim Russert. He was a giant in his field and seemed to be a kind and loving man. Here is the Farrah Fawcett thread that previous posters have referred to. I also feel that the smug, cynical tone of this piece is disturbing. http://www.wowowow.com/post/farrah-fawcett-wing-and-prayer-cancer-movie-…

Farrah Fawcett’s Odd and Possibly Ground-Breaking Cancer Movie

In a creeped-out, can’t-wait-to-see-it-on-the-tube kind of way.” Is the person who wrote this 14? There is such a lack of empathy and respect for her bravery and struggle that I can’t believe it was written by a mature person who knows that cancer is not American Idol or a spectator sport. Shame on Wow.
