Out on the Town With Robin Platzer: The Museum of Modern Art's 40th Annual Party in the Garden

These photos (some, sadly unflattering or revealing) beg the question: “What should us older babes wear after dark?” I find eveningwear and swimwear the most challenging. Liz and Joan look great.

Lost Heroines: In Space No One Knows You Are a Woman

This is such a great series. Is there any way you could archive (or present) the previous ones so a reader can enjoy them all? Otherwise, we are allowing history to forget these women once again. Thanks.

Liz Smith on Hillary: 'A Lot of Obama's Supporters Would Just Die if He Chose Her'

There’s nothing lively about some of the thinly-veiled Anti-Semitic marks about “Zionist” Hillary. (You know who you are). The conversation on this thread was basically hideous—as a couple of obsessive posters clogged the boards and clawed at each other. These kind of flame wars are, sadly, the downside of the internet. I was hoping that the women of wowOwow were better than that. There’s a big difference between being intellectually lively and a lot of nasty noise.

Liz Smith on Hillary: 'A Lot of Obama's Supporters Would Just Die if He Chose Her'

Renata and others who hate the idea of Hillary as VP, who do you like for the job? I like Joe Biden.

Liz Smith on Hillary: 'A Lot of Obama's Supporters Would Just Die if He Chose Her'

Jackie, Calling Hillary a “hormone challenged nut” (as you did in the above post), is about as sexist and ageist as it gets.

Liz Smith on Hillary: 'A Lot of Obama's Supporters Would Just Die if He Chose Her'

I frankly don’t care about Hillary’s or Obama’s ego/power needs when it comes to their possible working relationship. They’re both grown-ups and hopefully mature enough to get along. They agree on the issues. I’m just in love with the idea of all that collective brain power and energy in one administration. And of course, the idea of seeing both an African-American and a woman being sworn in on a cold day in January is thrilling. Obama has star quality and ran the first truly modern internet campaign. Hillary campaigned like it was 1998. Both are exceptional people. And I don’t think that Bill Clinton needs to be marginalized. He’s a smart guy and we should stop asking him to always leave the room.

Mary Wells: I Started Buying Yves Saint Laurent Couture Before I Could Afford It

The difference between the “Success and the City” era that Mary describes and the “Sex and the City” shopping of today is the four- digit price tag on almost everything. I remember buying a fabulous pair of boots at Bergdorf’s for $75 in the Seventies. A recent designer version of the same boot was $1,250. What happened? Even as a geezer, I aspire to glamour but it’s rough out there. Everything is sleeveless and quality stinks.

Lost Heroines: Elizabeth Keckley's Road From Slavery to Tell-All Scandal

This is fascinating. Thank you wowOwow. BTW, two great artists have died—Yves Saint Laurent & Bo Diddley.

Gypsy's Definitive Guide to the Med, Part One

Thanks, Mary. This is wowOwow at its best—life as seen though the eyes of a sophisticated, glamorous and very savvy, sensitive woman. The writing and pictures are glorious.

Dina Matos McGreevey is asking for alimony of $51k a month for 13 months from ex-NJ governor Jim McGreevey. Does she deserve it?

There is something so superficial and intrusive about this question that it gives me a headache. What happened to the more substantive questions inspired by famous quotes? Frankly, I expect more intellectually from wowOwow than this kind of low—rent, silly, sensational gossip. Who are we to comment on another woman’s divorce settlement? Anyone here a divorce lawyer? A discussion of alimony or whatever could be interesting. In this context it is not. Sorry.

Lost Heroines: Pearl Hart Was 'Good-Looking and Ready for Anything'

O.K., so she’s an anti-heroine. She’s still a festy, fascinating woman who defied the conventions of her time. A legendary lady bandit deserves her place in history along with the famous male bad boys like Jesse James. I love this series. Kudos to wowOwow.

The View Remains the Same ... Thankfully

Blanche, If your idea of a good time online is an angry discussion of class warfare, I think you will be disappointed in wowOwow.com. However, if you are interested in talking about the things all older women share—aging, loss and hopefully the joy of new experience and endeavor, then welcome to our community. Mary and Erica, I can almost taste that spaghetti sauce and feel the sun. Thanks for the evocative, wonderful writing.

Lost Heroines: 'My God, She's Alive!'

Wow! Wonderful! This is entertaining and empowering. We’ve all had times when we’ve felt like Annie. I may have a pickle at lunch in her honor.

Mario Cuomo to Liz Smith: Dems Must Get Out of the Way! An Obama-Clinton Ticket Is a Thrilling Possibility

A little history lesson: http://power.yourblackworld.com/2008/01/what-frederick-douglass-and-bara… Men (all men) got the right to vote in 1870. Women got the right to vote in 1919—49 years later. And we still haven’t passed the ERA amendment to the Constitution.
