Should Sen. Clinton pack it in?

Our country has dropped “President Elect” in favor of “President Select.” Whether in June, July or at the convention in August, Democrats have a brokered candidate. In 2000 we had President Select Bush selected by the Supreme Court. In 2008 we have the Democrat Select selected by superdelegates rather than by voters. Why can’t we elect our president rather than have this infernal Presidential Selection?

Cokie Roberts: 'Hillary Is Negotiating Her Withdrawal'

I think we are seeing irrational Obama exuberance and the bubble is going to burst.

After hundred and hundreds of years, still only men allowed in the White House. After eight years of baseball, now we’ve got basketball. Well, that’s a change.

Mary, You outdid yourself with the breathtakingly gorgeous picture album. Those steps made out of old tiles are the pièce de résistance.

Did Sen. Obama clinch the Democratic nomination last night?

Renata, Although I disagree, I will give you the point that Hillary is not the quality candidate; however I am not looking for the quality candidate. I am looking for the female candidate. My theory is that if the next 43 presidents are women, then some of them will be Hoover and some of them will be Lincoln. For my vote, Hillary does not have to be anything more than she is. If she turns out to be one of the worst or one of the best, either is fine with me. After she breaks the glass ceiling, hopefully other women will follow, one of whom might meet your ideal. By the way, stick to your guns, you are terrific.

Susanne de Cornelia, Please keep us posted on your Dad. He must be wonderful to have you for a daughter.

Did Sen. Obama clinch the Democratic nomination last night?

Renata, I love your passion. Please disregard everything I say because I am a radical. After 43 male presidents, I would vote for any woman, from Hillary to Condi. In fact I propose a Constitutional Amendment that the next 43 presidents are required to be female.

Suzanne de Cornelia, Hysterical? I’m all for anything that comes from the womb (as in hystera, the Greek word for uterus, that led Hippocrates to coin the medical term hysteria for people like me).

Peg O my heart, I am in total agreement that Geppetto is more like tomato(e). I had to look up Geppetto because I didn’t remember that he created Pinocchio (1883 novel). I also learned that Geppetto was a television musical featuring Julia Louis-Dreyfus as the Blue Fairy. I’m so jealous because I always wanted to be a Blue Fairy.

Mugsy, I took your advice and dropped ROFLMAO into my webbrowser, and it led me to a website that had a nice young woman saying “Centipedes? In my vagina?” If I am arrested, I hope you will post bail for me.

Darling Frank, I wish I could laugh my ass off.

Did Sen. Obama clinch the Democratic nomination last night?

Renata, I agree that Obama certainly has plenty of campaign money. Not being on the inside, I have no idea if it is because he managed the money well or if it is because he received so much money. I also have no idea what Obama would have done with the Iraq War because I only know that he gave an anti-war speech at an anti-war rally and then voted every time with Hillary. I also agree that it is “Time for America to move into its role as a leader in the 21st Century, which will not look/feel like the 20th.” But my idea for the 21st Century is to end the wait for the first female president. I feel the weight of history, the weight of the delayed right of women to vote, the weight of the first qualified female candidate after forty-three male presidents. What looks and feels like the 20th Century to me is the Nineteenth Amendment that in 1920 gave women the right to vote, women who had been struggling for that right for seventy years beginning in 1848. What looks and feels like the 19th Century to me is the Fifteenth Amendment, one of the Reconstruction Amendments for former slaves that in 1870 gave men of color the right to vote but not women of color nor for that matter not any woman. To discriminate based on gender is ok but to discriminate against race is not ok. Women, all women, would have to wait another fifty years to vote. What irony that now we have a white man and a black man both candidates for president of the United States who in effect are putting women in the position to wait, wait, wait some more.

Are women harder on each other than they are on men?

I am a woman who does not allow yes people around me so if a woman were being hard on me, I don’t think I’d notice.
