Yes, I did answer questions as they arose,  and from the time they could talk, they used correct verbage.  Once when my mother was babysitting my 18 month old son, she had to change his diaper, and he said,’Granmudder, you’re hurting my penis."  Well, when I got back, my mother rushed me into the bathroom, demanding to know where her grandson had learned that kind of talk.  Some years later, her granddaughter climbed up in her lap and said,"Grandma, I have a vagina."  We had to get the smelling salts out for grandmere, and she continued to wonder why we taught her precious grandchildren to talk ‘dirty’…different generations.

Ouick story:  6-year-old asks his mother where he came from.  Thinking him quite precocious but sincerely curious, she proceeded to graphically explain to him the the before, the during and the after.  With each bit of information, the child’s eyes grew biggger, his face more quizzical.  Finally, the mother finished, asking if the boy had any questions.  He looked up at her with a sigh of disappointment and said to his mother, ‘Yeah, well Billy is from Ohio, and I was just wondering where I came from.’

Brava, Liza, and I love the color…we do seem to have the bright lights on color these days, finally.  As I read the caption, I was reminded of yesterday’s Kathleen Parker column: "Here’s what women hear when men ask a female candidate about her temperament: ‘Are you really the bitch everyone says you are?’  Men can be temperamental and still be great; women are merely impossible to deal with."

 Sotomayor will be passionate, giving Scalia a run for his money.  Thank you for sharing your creativity, Liz.

deber B, I never mentioned how I believe, and I certainly would not speak for my husband.  You are assumiing facts not in evidence.  But I appreciate your response; perhaps we have moved on to some civility in some small way.

Now, that I understand.  If you disagree with a current administration, work to put your candidate in office the next election cycle. 

As I’ve mentioned many times before, my daughter was born in an Air Force hospital in the Azores, Portugal.  Her father worked for DODDS, teaching dependents of active duty military.  We have her birth certificate.  She is an American citizen.  She is not eligible to run for the presidency…..she does not have the connections in the Senate to get a non-binding resolution passed to make her eligible.  As Liz Smith said, being president is a thankless task.  Never would I want my daughter in such a burdensome position, only to be attacked personally on a daily basis.  But I do resent her lack of eligibility due to the fact her father was working for the American government at the time of her birth.

Thirty years ago, I wrote to our congressman to inquire about the Constitutional interpretation of ‘natural born citizen’.  House Speaker Jim Wright answered my inquiry with the information that, unfortunately, the law meant born on American soil.  Further, that the issue had never been challenged, but would have to be determined in the courts.  Rep. Wright said that George Romney came close to the challenge but then Romney chose not to run.  I gave my daughter that letter when she graduated from the University of Texas….so she would know I hadn’t accepted, without protest, her eligibility for the presidency.

Her father and I have been married 37 years, met while volunteering for our country,  9 years teaching at military bases, another 20 plus years teaching in public schools…tax-paying, home-owning, sending two kids through college.  With all due respect, sometimes it appears that you, among others, believe that Obama-bashing is tantamount to being an American patriot.  I disagree.

deber B, please name the people who have used the FOIA to garner copies of President Obama’s documents. Easy enough to brush the issue away so nonchalantly.  I have used the FOIA succesfully, but then it only concerned a passage in a treaty between two countries, and it took me two years.  If, in fact, attempts have failed, let those folks come forward and tell us their tales.  Granted, many of the documents listed by S.G. would be deemed private, but I would think a birth certificate would be a part of public record.  In fact, just give me the names of the citizens who’ve been declined the information, and I’ll get in touch with them and share my experience.

What a disgusting display of ignorance and self-righteousness, Ms. Weismonger.  It would appear that you are among the many, the throng of fear-mongers who dare to label any American an affiliate or supporter of Adolf Hitler.  In America you’ll find a growing number of supremacist groups who gratefully embrace the tactics and philosophies of Hitler, who wrap themselves in the Nazi flag and tatoo themselves with swastikas.

After reading this rant twice, I could not find a fact.  But I do have a sincere question:  Do you believe that you and others so strongly opposed to President Obama are harbingers of a conspiracy that you compare to the Holocaust?  I try to understand the source of your hyperbolic, extremist tirades.  If you are sincerely trying to save us all, please speak from that premise.  Know that I am sincere in my questioning…..if this is your goal, then, yes, we are certainly not talking about Republican or Democrat. Outlining the facts of this unfolding conpiracy is your responsibility as an American, but do it in the best sense of patriotism…up front, free of emotional attacks and assumptions that anyone whose belief system tracks differently than yours lacks intelligence and integrity.

If you are sincerely interested in these documents, S.J., under the Freedom of Information Act, you can request copies of them.  But then, that would be a solution rather than a diatribe,’full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.’
