Age, Sex and the Sometimes Single Girl

Belated Happy Birthday, Liz. No one mentions famous Paschal High School Graduates without your name flourishing at the top of the list. I am a devoted fan of your writing and your life philosophy…robbing no one of their dignity and generously contributing to the integrity of of your subjects. Brava, Liz

A Princeton-trained physicist told ABC News this week that Global Warming is 'all bunk.' Do you believe in Global Warming?

I believe in climate change. Some friends of mind, educated and intelligent individuals, question “glogal warming because of a spring snow storm in Colorado or unseasonable rains in southern Texas. Ignored is the drought in Georgia, the melting ice caps in antarctica, and the drought in Texas two years ago which cause the cracking of foundations and numerous destructive fires. Global warming seems to be a minomer to the majority; perhaps a photo of the Happy Feet stars laid out in the declining environs which were their lives might bring the issue to the fore. Too many of us measure the world’s environment by their front yard rather than their children’s children’s front yard.

From James Frey to J.T. Leroy and beyond: Why are publishers such easy marks for fake memoirs?

Reading Fryer’s memoir presented some few questions for me as in how does one remember activities which occurred when one is unconscience. This was not advertised as a how-to nor a how-not-to-do read. The chances of my meeting Frey were slim and meeting Oprah, not at all. I find myself purposely avoiding “Oprah Books” these days after her treatment of Frey on her soul-cleasning show. Somehow, I felt duplicitous in her attack, but she was not speaking for me. Oprah revealed her insecurity and “queen over everthing” persona With great respect for Elie Weisel, having taught about the Holocaust for many years, I noted that he has a more “updated” memoir, but I missed the show when Oprah explained to the audience how Mr. Weisel”s perceptions had changed over the years, thus accounting for the new edition of a memoir which has stood up for over 50 years. I neer held Oprah responsible for what she deemed an atrocious bit of some con game perpetrated by Mr. Fry. I do hold her responsible for her tirade against what she deemed an all out effort to damage her reputation…somehow Mrs. Gay Talese does not strike me as a schlepper.

Should Silda Spitzer stand by her man?

Forgiveness is an integral part of marriage, not so much when breaking laws. My sympathy goes out to the daughters whose classmates, age wise, are not particularly known their compassion. He has flatout embarrassed them in ways that could leave lingering psychic scars, and in ways that he would never tolerate from them. He may be a jerk but he’s still a father, and that’s the wounds he’ll spend the rest of his life healing.

Please, do not nag others to join us. Smacks of insecurity. You’re all more than I asked for and for that I am grateful. You doesn’t need nothin’ mo’ to be whole.

Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing, Baby

Beth Willis I find each of you sincere and can well imagine that this screen in front of us has allowed a cosmic expansion of the Algonquin Round Table. You know, I just love and admire Candice Bergen, but she never fills my thoughts when I am buying shoes. Some of you posters, although delightful women all, sound very much like you are living in an oppressive country, one other than the US. I’m not sure if even China dictates so strongly about women’s footwear. Peace and grace

Welcome to wowOwow and Thank You!

with all due respect, Molly Ivins has sadly passed away as has Ann Richards, both of whom with Texas legacies. Congratulations on your opening day—find the site in Liz Smith’s column because we went to the same high school at different times together. Sorry you few were focused on the frills and not the facts this first day out. How bout we give these ladies a chance—-I can assure you that for everyone who criticizes the inclusion astrological signs and bad hair days, there are two who think the originators were just so clever to reach for a broad appeal. (Pun intended) Beth Willis
