Joan Juliet Buck Would Be 35 Again ... Under These Conditions

I would like it to be the 20th of this month when my husband called to say he was on his way home from the hospital and we would watch this wonderful young man being sworn into office, but that was not what was to happen. He didn’t make it and he didn’t come home. He had a wonderful life, and he was so kind to me.

Joan Juliet Buck's 'Damn' Hair

I have a hair problem because I have something called hyperhydrosis of the scalp,in other words excessive sweating! It just came along in my 60’s and I can only associate it with women who talk about “hot flashes” except it is constant and appears without warning in the form of sweat pouring down from under my bangs and every inch of my head wet or damp! I deal with it,when I can with a sweat band (a wardrobe of cotton head scarves) under my bangs…sweat is salty and gets into your eyes. I am aware of hot soups, cocktails, coffee wine…will make it worse. And prepare because the body also reacts..cotton and linen without additives such as spandex.PRAY to find hand held old fashioned fans, take luke warm showers.I could go on and on,ask Joan Brody NYT. Many people have it elsewhere, feet, hands…but the scalp/good luck!

What's the best thing you do for YOU?

Wish I could move around, DO it if you can WHILE you can. My favorite thing was walking the neighborhood, having a coffee at a cafe with my pup at my feet and the walk back home began my day.FUN.

Smoke & Mirrors: What was your biggest disillusionment?

Kristi, I graduated from high school, most popular, most promising, and knowing there was never a chance my family could offer a college education. I lay there on my bed with my mother coming through often, trying to say something helpful, can’t even remember the question now…wow ,THAT was a bad time. I still get them.

The holidays are here! When it comes to gift giving, do you prefer to give ... or to receive?

Songs and suppers from the “Old Countries” mixed with the new,so happy,so joyful to be new citizens, surrouned by children, new jobs, new futures.and promises of prosperous new lives. Bliss
