I agree with many of the people who posted about adults (not necessarily their parents, but other significant adults in their lives) not knowing about how the technology is used. Teenagers also use the internet to cyberbully their peers. Those who choose to participate in these activities don’t seem to have an understanding that a real person is on the receiving end of the sexting pics or the harmful words and that they have NO control over how that person responds to the pic or the words they post online. Many of them keep their mobile phones switched on at night by their beds (which is why they are so often tired when they get to school) their parents are just not aware. They think that buying a phone will allow them to keep tabs on their child, or that by installing the internet in their bedrooms and allowing them all access will help them with their assignments. It doesn’t work that way. Parents need to better understand how the technology works - once it is demystified, then parents will probably feel more confident in dealing with these issues.

Boxing Day in Australia - a public holiday. Traditionally the test cricket starts on Boxing Day as does the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. Watching both of these pursuits is a must for any Aussie. Also a day for celebrating with family and friends… I think the resting starts a day later!

It took me a little longer than Liz Smith to decide what I thought of the film. I am an Australian and have enjoyed Luhrmann’s other films as well. I completely agree that it is uniquely Luhrmann - the script, the representation of Australian life. It is a long film, though I don’t think it was laboured. Brandon Walters is the star of the show!

Growing up and living in Australia, under that very hot sun has taught me that SPF 30+ is the minimum protection needed. Sunblock, keeping out of the sun, covering up - sure it isn’t the image out in the sun that some celebrities advocate, but it is most sensible!

Now that would be a talent that would come in handy in a myriad of situations!
