Candice Bergen: Close to Home

Her husband’s - clearly some good advice no doubt. My husband is a lot like that - a great source of information regarding investing etc. I quite enjoy it as well but the best piece of advice I received was to invest what I was prepared to lose…very good advice

When Candice Bergen's Mind Wanders, Where Does It Go?

I agree. The mind certainly does wander. If I am not in the outdoors running or swimming or playing tennis, then I am at the gym and my mind goes into auto pilot. I like the time to let my mind wander. In some ways it is cathartic.

Breaking: Women Coffee Drinkers Have 25 Percent Lower Risk of Heart Deaths

Excellent. Thanks for that. This is my kind of research!

Are you eating more organic food than you were a year ago?

I love organic food - I shop at an organic shop each week and if I can’t get there, I go to a farmer’s market. We have cut down the amount of meat that we eat. It is a much better lifestyle. I love food and slow food at that. Keeping the integrity in food is important. No fast food in our house ever.

An Exclusive Interview With Martha Stewart CEO Just Ahead of Resignation Announcement

An interesting interview. MSLO has certainly metamorphosed in recent years. It is good to read interviews with high profile women who are successful in their positions of leadership and responsibility. More of these types of interviews would be great. It is a shame that some readers felt it necessary to discuss women who they believe have failed as CFO’s or CEO’s of companies. I wonder if just for a moment, we were to create a list of jailed CEO’s and CFO’s of recent years - how many of those are women and how many of those are men? How did their qualifications assist them? Did it stop investors losing money? To make such blatant statements that the cause of company collapses / losses is unqualified women being promoted to leadership positions is only looking at part of the picture. There are also unqualified men who have caused company collapses and losses. It’s about other factors - hmmm…. the economy, worldwide market trends, consumer confidence, regulations and laws, shareholders and directors. Let’s not play the gender blame game.

What should the world do with its trash?

I loved reading your post! You certainly live a socially responsible life! I totally agree that it isn’t difficult to have a greener lifestyle in a big city. It takes a little more time but it becomes a much healthier lifestyle. I shop at a wonderful organic store where I bring my own bags or can use their brown paper bags to carry my purchases. They have large containers of grains and seeds and pulses which is great because I can fill up a brown paper bag of the quantity that I need and then take it home, rather than come home with masses of packaging. I like the idea of stores having recycling bins so you can leave the packaging there. I think you have highlighted some great ideas!

What should the world do with its trash?

In addition to recycling it into new and exciting products there are a number of wonderful “reverse garbage” places in local areas where people who want to get rid of their trash can take it and artists go there and take what they like and create contemporary art works and sculpture. It is a really good idea. I think disposing of garbage leads to a greater issue - are we producing too much and in an inefficient way? Essentially the first option should not be to put waste in the trash. It should be easy to recycle or even reuse. It is symptomatic of a society where people are consuming too much, therefore wasting too much. The need to acquire the “latest” consumable drives the increase in rubbish. Households are not the only ones should be concerned - large companies create masses of waste and while some companies are socially and environmentally responsible enough to do something with their waste, there are others that don’t do enough. I think it’s time the world decided to downsize.

Adelle Lutz on the Latest From Burma: 'We Watch As They Beat Their Children'

The enormity of devastation in Burma has only been compounded by the harrowing cyclone. Burma is a country that continues to struggle under the oppressive regime of the junta. Aung Sun Suu Kyi is a truly extraordinary woman. I completely concur with Adelle Lutz’s assessment of the situation and the need for world leaders and others to mention her name. She does provide an extraordinary sense of hope to her people, people whose lives are lived amidst chaos at the whim of the junta. It would be wonderful if the international world did something about this situation. It seems as though Burma, along with Zimbabwe have been put in the too hard basked by the UN and other peak global bodies. Perhaps our voices need to be louder as well. We have a voice and a moral responsibility to give voice to those whose voices cannot be heard. Thank you Adelle for your compelling piece on Burma.

Candice Bergen: I May Be Moody, But I'm Not Sick

Lindt makes great chocolate. I love the dark range of chocolate - right up to 99% dark chocolate. It is delicious. My husband loves the lindt truffles!

Candice Bergen: I May Be Moody, But I'm Not Sick

Well said Candice. Dark chocolate is a treat. No trace of tomatoes in there!

What is the best advice your dad ever gave you?

My father taught me the importance of treating others with respect and dignity. He taught me about the importance of pursuing my dreams, gaining independence, lifelong learning and to not underestimate humility.

Liz Smith on Hillary: 'A Lot of Obama's Supporters Would Just Die if He Chose Her'

Senator Clinton should be given an opportunity to make a greater contribution and if she wishes to be considered for VP - then so be it. I can only hope that it is rectified soon. Both she and Sen Obama have reinvigorated American politics which is great. It would be great if there was room for both of them to continue to fire up the minds and hearts of Americans (and global friends)

What advice do you have for Hillary Clinton?

Advice for Senator Clinton? Well, for what it’s worth - from a 30 something Australian woman… take a brief break and then get back into it and do what you can to ensure the Democrats have the best possible chance of winning this election. The world is watching intently and I can well and truly attest to the fact that the Australian media (as small and as geographically isolated as we may be from your continent) has been following this campaign closely. People want change and it isn’t enough to stop at the 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling! You have come so far that you can now use your influence to ensure that the Democrats support Obama. This has to be a priority if the Democrats want to win office. Senator McCain is no George W Bush.

Candice Bergen and wowOwow Grace the Cover of 'Hampton Style' Magazine

This is such a lovely article that details an extraordinary career! Ms Bergen has always been one of my favourite actors and it was lovely to be able to read about her life and experiences. Ms Bergen has contributed so much to film and television - it is great to see magazines publishing stories about wonderful women, rather than the trashy trials of the ‘IT’ girls. The photographs are beautiful! Thank you for sharing this with us!
