Mary Wells's Power Picks

Kryssi, you are sooooo right! I am extremely grateful for my mother.

Liz Smith: The Importance of Angelina Jolie

Lipstick Gala - deep breaths, Darlin’. I agree with a lot of your points. It almost seems as though adopting a foreign child is a fashion to some of these stars. I think the US adoptions rules and regulations make US adoption difficult. That is what I have heard from ‘regular’ people who adopted from overseas. We DO need to help our fellow Americans. We also need to help globally. I do not see this as an ‘either or’ decision. I believe that when you decide to help, you need to choose where/how you are going to give. My great love is kids’ causes. St Jude & Juvenile Diabetes are my two US causes. The Nepalese Youth Foundation is my international cause. I can’t give a lot, but I give what I can. Angelina is focused on childrens’ welfare on a global scale. I don’t know why she chose that, but she did. Maybe WE should focus our energies on helping at home and not waiting on Hollywood stars to do it. Maybe WE should work to bring more attention to Americans who need our help. With everything that happened with the economy last week, there are going to be a lot more people in need.

Margo Howard: Thanks, Sandra Bernhard, for the Palin Jokes. Like We Needed This

Okay, so maybe I over-reacted - just a little bit. Thanks for the clarification.

Margo Howard: Thanks, Sandra Bernhard, for the Palin Jokes. Like We Needed This

I also take offense at the label ‘whack-job churchies’. Just because I go to church - the church of my choice- does not make me a whack-job. I had a friend refer to herself the other day as a conservative christian republican. Does that mean I can’t be a liberal christian democrat? Since when are only republicans allowed to be christians? Since when are all christians whack-jobs? Maybe Ms Howard did not mean to imply that all church goers are whack-jobs, but the article read like that to me.

Will the Government's Cure for the Credit Crisis Save Us, or Cost Us? by Liz Peek

Suzanne, this is wonderful! Thank you for supplying these links. I will be doing my homework this weekend. I’ve been in such a panic over the week’s financial news. I realize that I need to understand it more. You’ve provided a great place to start. Thanks, again.

Sarah Palin's Yahoo E-Mail Account Hacked!

It doesn’t matter if Gov Palin is doing anything wrong or right. She should have the expectation of privacy with her email. Whoever hacked her account was wrong. There is no indication if the hackers were Democrats or Republicans or Independants or nothing at all. It is foolish to try to pin this on Democrats without knowing the whole story. I feel bad for Gov Palin. It should not happen to anyone.

The wOw Women Weigh in on Sarah Palin, Republican Strategy and Slow Democratic Response

Mugsy, you are so right. Why did no one bring up sexism when Hillary was being bashed? Now anyone who is against Gov. Palin for whatever reason, is sexist. Yes, there have been some women who, I feel, have push the edge in their complaints. Not all of us.

Whoopi Goldberg Reaches Out to Readers

Maurine, I really, really liked that article. Thank you for the link. Kate

Whoopi Goldberg Reaches Out to Readers

Bonita, I know I should have just ignored “idiot noir”, but I was so shocked at the filth that was written, I just reacted. I grew up in a small town in Mississippi. My mother taught us better than that.

Is this a joke?????

Whoopi Goldberg Reaches Out to Readers

Maurine, you made me laugh. When my daughter was at that stage, I would frequently call my mother and say “I’m so sorry.” She would ask “What for?” “Everything. I’m so sorry.” She just laughs. She raised 5 daughters. We were so spread out that she and my dad had 1, 2, or 3 teenage girls for 20 years. Yikes!

Judy Bachrach: When McCain Offered Palin Second Place on the Ticket, She Had a Choice

That is one thing my mother and my sisters and I were talking about this weekend. Palin knew her daughter is pregnant. She knows intense scrutiny any policital figure and his/her family gets. She knew her daughter’s story would hit the airwaves. Why would she put her daughter in that position (the publicity not the pregnancy)?
