Susan, I appreciate your answering my intrusive questions. You are right, there has to be a lot to consider about our healthcare situation. I worked for both the "private insurance sector" and with Medicare reimbursements when I worked for BCBST and I know there is no easy answer. And believe me, there was a lot of time and effort put into trying to find out how delivering health care to policy owners at a reasonable cost could be accomplished. As was the Medicare sector. I was usually looking for mistakes in billing practices by the providers and I do know that most were always trying to bill correctly and honestly. It is just how do we bring costs down so that it is affordable? Especially now that so many are loosing their jobs and insurance. Cobra is terribly expensive and I know I couldn’t afford it if I need it. Lots of questions and no easy answers. Thanks again.

Oh, gosh, Frannie, I am so happy that your son won’t have to be re-deployed to Afghanistan. With all my heart I am praying he returns to you safely. We, as a country, owe him a great debt of gratitude.

I did assume you wouldn’t have watched Oprah with the soldiers. I wouldn’t have been able to watch, either, if my son was in harms’ way. I did comment about it to Elaine. I was hoping to open some discourse about our similiarities as opposed to our differences. I hope and feel all of us, whether we are conservatives or liberals, can become one as a nation, supporting our men and women in uniform. And, just what if we became that same nation we once were, as in WWII? All of us working together to come out on the other side, our country leading,  being the strongest country this world has ever seen. I still think there is a greatness to this great country. Our founding fathers wrote a constitution that stands the test of time. Always relevant, as much so today as it was when it was written.

I actually heard the comment and the quote was repeated by him and it was basically Rush hoping our President fails. Plain and simple.

I can’t understand that because this is all our country and I want us all to move ahead and no one to suffer. I’ve seen too much suffering in my lifetime.

BTW, I cried my eyes out today watching Oprah with the soldiers at Walter Reed. I was a certified registered nurse with specialty in physical rehabilitation. Worked in it for several years and loved it. Those soldiers make me so proud of our military services. Don’t you feel the same way when you see their spirit and "can do" attitude?

For a healthy family, high deductible healthcare is cheap.  It’s less than $100 for both of my children.

Susan, I have been reading your comments. Although you and I come different sides of the political arena, I think you make very valid points. However, When you state that your healthcare deductible  is less than $100 for both of your children I wonder what insurance you have? I worked and retired from  a big insurance company and the deductible is much higher, each individual is $250 a year at the least and many policies $500, depending on which plan selected. For family the deductible is usually $500 to $1000 depending on the plan selected. Can you enlighten me on what type of insurance you have and how much it cost? I know I am asking probably something considered private but as one who has worked for years in the insurance business as an auditor I am curious. 

 

Susan, I am in the health care industry, live in Tenn. and audited a health care facility in Franklin. I did not know about Mercy Children’s Clinic. Thanks for the info. I will spread the word. There are so many people my nursing friends are coming in contact with who need health care for their children and have lost their insurance.

When I was in junior high school I read a magazine story about a young girl trying to get out of a terrible life and make it good on her own. She was getting nowhere fast and then glimpsed herself in a full length window as she walked by a building. She saw someone with a scowl, curved shoulders, and an angry, aggressive walk. She went home, tried to practice smiling in front of a mirror and started to cry. She had been beaten down so much in life she couldn’t pull a smile out or stand up straight.

The story stuck with me. I did not come from a "Father Knows Best" background. However, I presented myself, from that time forward, as one who was confident, in command and in control. Just looking the part got me jobs as a supervisor, a leaders of conferences and many of the things I could only dream about as a child.

A good article and the whole package should be taught in schools where the children have to overcome so much.

Candice, do you read any of the other comments on WOW? The wingnuts are taking over and the ones who were with this site when it first started have started leaving. You, of all people, must care about how this site is playing out right now. Can you explain why this being allowed to happen by the founders of WOW?

Where were her parents or guardians? She may be innocent. Teens can rapidly swoop in with multiple kids in cars and with booze their older siblings have purchased for them and take over a gathering. I have seen it with being attempted when my kids were teen agers but I was on the premises and quickly took control of the situation. She may not have had the proper supervision and couldn’t control the situation herself. We need more facts before saying she should be thrown to the lions, good grief WOW. What is wrong with you? This site and the articles are getting out of hand. Do you no care?

I have advocated punishment all along of the ones guilty of the illegal practices. Why are they continuing to get away with rubbing their greed in our faces without some type of being brought to justice?
