Finish this sentence - My boss is ...

After 26 years of public school principals with the IQ, humor, and imagination of a dead flashlight battery, the tech savvy of a newborn infant, and a birth certificate with “Satan Incarnate” on it, I finally, at the college level, have a department head who is witty, funny, imaginative, honorable, and who trusts us to do our jobs and doesn’t interfere unless there is cause. She’s supportive and understanding, and she knows her subjects like the back of her hand, and I think I adore her. In the public schools, I never once had a principal who did a good or even passable job, and I wouldn’t have trusted any of them as far as I could throw a grand piano. Stolid, stupid men, all of them, except for the one stolid, stupid woman. Examples on request. But now? Just as the Moxy Fruvous song says, “I love my boss!”

Liz Smith on Hillary: 'A Lot of Obama's Supporters Would Just Die if He Chose Her'

When it comes to the leader of my country, I really do not care about anything except the following: 1) Is this person a decent, ethical, scrupulously honest, promise-keeping person in his/her personal life; 2) Does this person have what it takes to get and keep the attention and loyalty of a melting pot of persons while remembering the principles on which the U.S. was founded? and 3) Does this person know the Constitution by heart, and understand that it’s not to be toyed with? Bringing race or sex into the contest is nothing but an attempt to divert our attention from the real issues. As for Hilary… I could never vote for any man or woman who suffers so badly from what Churchill called “terminological inexactitude.”

What is your fantasy concert experience?

Fantasy concert? The original King’s Singers, Moxy Fruvous, Adam Sandler, Colin Hay, and the Beatles. And now I must go make a new mix cd… .

Summer weekends are all about lying around. Finish this sentence - This weekend I want to lie around with ...

George Clooney. What? Oh, we weren’t supposed to be honest? You did say “want,” right?

What is the best job you've ever had?

I LOVE all the jobs I have right now! I write blog copy for several online businesses - I know how to make a website or blog make it to the top three of the first page of a Google search. I’m also a ghostwriter for… . well, someone famous. Add to that the fact that I’m a professor of writing in a large community college, and that’s me in a nutshell. I’m not sure which job I love more; I am so much happier (and poorer) than I ever was in the public schools. I LOVE my jobs now!!!

Death Watch for Hillary Campaign ... Or Is It? by Monica Crowley

What’s the “package” again? An adulterer and an enabler? No, thank you. I’d rather take my chances with the newbie.

HerTube: Food Court Musical

I love all of the ImprovEverywhere videos.

Have you changed religions in your lifetime? If so, why?

Religious” people always seemed so judgmental, mean, ignorant, closeminded, and dowdy to me. I consider myself a Christian, but I prefer the word “spiritual” rather than “religious.” I am accountable to God, not to a preacher or to a congregation or to a set of rules written by man.

Which 'Sex and the City' character would your friends say you are most like?

I’ve never seen it. Don’t plan to see the movie, either. I’m sure you all know why. :)

What were you told a 'real lady' had to do?

I’m inclined to agree with the “sit with your legs together” thing, if a woman is wearing a dress. As a teacher, I’ve been forced to see many a fair shot in the front of the classroom, and it’s not a pretty sight. I also agree with the clean underwear; both sexes should always wear clean underwear. As for the rest, I’ll side with Russel Lynes, who said “A lady is a woman who makes a man behave like a gentleman.” and with Thomas Huxley, who said, “Thoughtfulness for others, generosity, modesty and self-respect are the qualities which make a real gentleman or lady.” Of course, some people think “ladies” should be somehow different from “gentlemen,” and I don’t agree at all with that scheiss, unless you’re talking about anatomy. Nice people are nice people, and I think “lady” and “gentleman” are just a way of saying that. Real ladies don’t need to be helped in and out of cars and through doors, but real gentlemen will offer because that’s what nice people do. Hopefully, they’ll “offer” to either sex, if it seems that someone could use the help. I do not believe that real ladies EXPECT to be treated as though they’re visitors from another planet, but of course some of them do. They’re not really real ladies, though. Underwear, yes. Knees together, yes. Everything else, just what helps us all to be nice to one another, and of course if someone genuinely needs assistance. Mom told us that nice people didn’t go out in public with a noticeable Koolaid mustache, but that one might apply mostly to little kids. :) Oh, and nice people always flushed. Nasty people didn’t.

What television show do you miss the most?

I have never seen Murphy Brown. It gets worse, too, for I have never once seen Oprah’s show, either. Add to the oddity the fact that I have absolutely no desire to see them. Not a fan of tv. Not any more.

What television show do you miss the most?

Dr. Kildare and MASH. In fact, I haven’t watched tv since MASH went off the air. (I buy the Scrubs dvd’s but I don’t watch it on network tv.) (I get my news off the ‘net.) I was in grade school when Dr. Kildare swept the airwaves and left even us 9-year-olds in plaid schooldresses and white anklets gasping for breath. Heh. I said “anklets.” I bet none of you is as old as I am. I also miss The Twilight Zone and all of the old variety shows.

Life in the Little Lane: Edith Ann's Answer to a Wandering Brain

Well, I’m sure we’ve all seen the sign: “Out of my mind; back in twenty minutes.” I could use one of those. I think our minds wander so they don’t get rootbound and one-sided. Wandering gives new perspectives.

Ted Kennedy Is a Lovely Human Being; I Am Praying for Him

A drunk behind the wheel is no different than a drunk with a gun. The compassion belongs to the Kopechne family. If he had even tried to help her, it would be different, but he saved his own ass and went home. Inexcusable. It’s only right that he has to “live with this until he dies.” At least he is living. The young woman he abandoned in the water is not.

Ted Kennedy Is a Lovely Human Being; I Am Praying for Him

We all make mistakes. Sometimes, we make big horrible mistakes. But a big horrible mistake and murder are not the same thing. A big horrible mistake and adultery are not the same thing, either. I hope he lives many more years. He’s done great things for us all. But his personal life is a mess.
