Lily on the Tony Experience

I would have to say that the main reason I “connected” with the wOw site was because of you Lily. I have been further engaged by some of the wonderful people on this site. I thank Chatelaine magazine for recommending it! Your sharing of the Tony night was thrilling, this piece touching, Edith Ann for giving us insight….. My mother met you many years ago, I have the picture of you standing beside her partners’ Spider (the car) after dinner together; she always spoke very highly of you in the same terms that the lovely people on this site do. She recently passed away and I do hope you get a chance to read Carol’s Dash (see my page), a poem written by a friend of hers, as I think it speaks to who you are as well…. you have and are spending your dash very well.

The wOw Cartoon of the Week: Job Qualifications

Oh now that is so funny and so true.. as I type my cat has just indicated it’s her dinner time Thanks Ki B thoroughly enjoyed that

Fashion police: Are there things you think should never be worn to the office? If so, what exactly?

Fashion police: Are there things you think should never be worn to the office? If so, what exactly?

I have never worked in an office but I would agree with most of the previus comments. I worked in sales in publishing and that industry is a little more forgiving in attire as you’re dealing with, and beside, an ecclectic group of people who (whom?) rather enjoy a bit of eccentricity.

HerTube: Randy Pausch (1960 - 2008)

One of the things I have enjoyed watching this site for the past 2 months is how very few “trolls” there are and then welen anne shows up….

This was for my kids” got me too. I have never heard of this man before the previous wOw contributors… Thank you, I have experienced a lot on this site.

What is the first thing you notice about the way people are dressed?

I’ve noticed the answers are related to where you are in your life… if you’re single and looking… if you’re a proffessional… I have recently started noticing different things as I’m not working right now. I’ll always notice the eyes first, they tell you soooo much about the true nature of the person. From there are the clothes, hair etc., are they clean and tidy (again depends… if a guy in construction comes my way, well there are extenuating circumstances). I’ve also noticed there is a style as to where you live… Albertans definitely are recognizable from say BC’ers.

What is the most vivid or memorable dream you've ever had?

My most vivid dream would have to be when I could fly, I’ve also dreamt of being able to breath under water which was great as well but the flying, oh the flying, was incredible!! I’m scared of hieghts as well but not in that dream (which I’ve reproduced a couple more times but not quite as high as the first time. Lucid dreaming is definitely possible as I do it on a fairly regular basis… I’ll often go to the house where I grew up and just walk around a refamiliarize myself with the place. It was a turn of the century Coach House with a turret on top… what fun we had up there!! I also visit with Dad who died 8 years ago; i haven’t visisted my mother who died recently… she’s kind of still here for me.

In celebration of Kay Ryan's appointment as the 16th Poet Laureate, tell us: What is your favorite poem of all time?

This poem was recently written by a friend of my mothers’ whose life many of us celebrated in the style in which she wanted and would have loved. It is called Carol’s Dash. Anne (not Annie) Lennox met Carol in the last year of her life; she suffered from osteoporosis. Anne’s final words after the poem were “I only knew Carol for a year and what a privilege it was. My relationship with Carol taught me that it is never too late, or too awkward, to nurture a new friendship in one’s life. We used to joke that we were “cramming for the finals”. Intimacy develops quickly when time is limited. “ Carol’s Dash I read of a woman who stood to speak at the memorial for a friend. She referred to the dates of her life, from the beginning to the end. She noted that first came her date of birth, 1921, and spoke the date of death, 2008, with tears, but said what mattered most to Carol was the dash between those years. That dash represents all the time that Carol spent on earth, and now those who loved her, know what that little line is worth. It matters not how much we own; the cars, the house, the cash What matters most is how we live and love, and how we spend our dash. So think about this long and hard …. Are there things you’d like to change? You never know how much time is left and what can still be rearranged. If we could just slow down enough to consider what’s true and real, And seek to understand the way other people feel… If we treat each other with respect, and more often wear a smile, remembering that this special dash might only last a little while. So, when your eulogy is being read, with your life’s actions to re-hash, Would you be proud of the things they’ll say, about how you spent your dash? Carol certainly was. The best tribute to her would be to spend it well. In honour of Carol, spend it well.

Marilyn Monroe -- The Way She (Really) Was

who is Professor Randy Pausch and do you have a link to the lecture you refer to? Thanks Jozie

A Whale of a Tale: Gypsy Takes to Vancouver

Oh Mary I could live in your dining/library on your vessel (god forbid I should call it a boat!). I live on Vancouver Island and miss the likes of Urban Fare… big sigh.

Marilyn Monroe -- The Way She (Really) Was

Yes a fascinating article with many things I didn’t know about our poor Marilyn. I esecially appreciate the asides such as … she steeped herself in “motivational” acting exercises and Freudian analysis. (Naturally inclined to morbid self-examination, these were perhaps not the best avenues for her.) …. they lent a particular sensitivity/filling out to the article.
