I was at the public library this afternoon and was surprised that Janette Oke was such a prolific a writer. According to Wikipedia she wrote more than 76 novels.

Nothing can stop a good idea like school integration. In spite of our losing MLK in the midst of struggle, the dream flourished and is a reality in all 50 states today. Senator Obama is also a good idea. For those of us alive when MLK died, the concern for Senator Obama is real. Thankfully, our children (no matter what color), do not live under that dark cloud. In my tweens our church choir director coached a few of the girls in songs from South Pacific. The girls were preparing for a school recital. The movie had just come out. The songs were hugely popular. Over the years I missed the play and film, until I was in my 30s. Boy, oh, boy what a shock to discover it was racist against Polynesians, which is part of my racial background. When I see that boat surface, I give it wide berth.

Jane Austin. She represents romance, independence and career fulfillment during what we think of as an uncomplicated time in history.

My dad Everett died when I was 13. He was big, gentle and very loving. People were drawn to his deep booming laugher and his kindness. I lament that he died before tape and video were in vogue. I would love to have a recording of his voice, his laughter for myself and my children. I miss him every day.
