Believe It or Not, Here's Some Good Economic News, by Liz Peek

Diana T— I can’t answer your median Bay Area home price (if that’s the question. Can probably google it, though wouldn’t be an accurate reflection because within relative short distances home prices vary greatly). I do know the most expensive house in San Francisco because it was on the Forbes list of the ten priciest homes in US: A $65 Million Dollar French limestone mansion. It’s selling for double its sales price of two years ago. You must prove nearly a billion in assets just to see it. David Barrett, the sales broker said, “At least once a week, we get a prospective buyer who has that.” For a small city, San Francisco has one of the biggest concentrations of millionaires/billionaires on the planet.

Absolutely being Enroned. Enron stuck it to California while Bush shrugged, and now his oil pals are doing it to the nation.

The New Catch-22 for Women

Sorry J Burke but the language used and the anger sound like resentment to me, am not saying that as a put down, but an observation and also that it is very destructive to the individual and not at all to the target, because it wastes the energy that could go to a solution….like brainstorming on how to use one’s gifts in the current market to make more money. That would be empowering.

We definitely could use a question/thread discussion on poverty consciousness because there are people here who have it in spades. Challenges are real, poverty consciousness is de-energizing and makes them far worse. Fear’s the basis and it is blinding.

What is your favorite perfume? What do you associate with it?

Thank you, Tinka, aren’t you the clever one for knowing! Sounds like a must have, and what a clever blog I found searching for it: http://pinkmanhattan.blogspot.com/2008/01/amouage-gold-for-women.html

The Real Men and Women of Madison Avenue

A blurb about Changing perceptions about the men and women behind some of American pop culture’s most enduring slogans— “Does she … or doesn’t she?,” “I Want My MTV,” “Where’s the beef?,” “Just Do It,” to name a few— is the goal of “The Real Men and Women of Madison Avenue - and Their Impact on American Culture,” a new exhibition opening on June 24 at The New York Public Library’s Science, Industry and Business Library. Co-curated by The One Club’s CEO Mary Warlick and journalist Ann Cooper, the exhibition takes an unflinching look at the lives and work of the real heroes and heroines of Madison Avenue— those brilliant copywriters and creative directors who shaped the hopes and dreams of Americans on a daily basis over the past eighty years. This exhibition is on view June 24 to September 26, 2008. Be there or…” “

The New Catch-22 for Women

Steve Jobs (founder of Apple) was also homeless in his 20s. His adoptive family did not have money for tuition and room and board, so when he went away to college he lived on floors of friends dorm rooms, moving from dorm room to dorm room. He cashed in beverage bottles and walked all the way across town once a week for a free dinner at a temple. When he gave the commencement address at Stanford 2005 his advice was “Do what you love….and live like each day’s you last.” Thankfully for many of us he loves making computers better and better…I sure love my Apple. So you’re in good company ki b. Here’s his Stanford commencement address: http://news-service.stanford.edu/news/2005/june15/jobs-061505.html

What Michelle Obama, Cindy McCain Can Learn From Margaret Thatcher's Husband

Jackie Kenney was loved for her brains, grace, dignity, class, taste….for elevating the arts, for loving and highlighting other cultures by going to other countries and making it about them. Joni, Leslie, JG and JB, and Miss Manners on the phone—-LOVED the vid. Hope you can do more of that. You all look terrific and there’s a dimension added when ‘live’ including just audio. Joan Buck was great to see you without the coffee cup and with your hair down. Such an admirer of your work and that you look like France’s new First Lady. All best to all and thank you.

Life in the Little Lane: Edith Ann on Obama and Oprah

If Obama and Oprah came here there would not be any space large enough to hold them. If I saw them together that would be an ultimate moment. She doesn’t need to give me a car….unless it’s a E320 MBZ champagne color. Please note Oprah. Edith Ann never run away! Run TO…..xoxox.

Christie Brinkley Chose the Right Divorce Lawyer

Joni- Perhaps you’ve written this before, but given your post about losing it all as a result of your divorce I imagine all the women here would love to know how you turned it all around again. Was it a particular life philosophy, or did you develop one as a result? There’s no greater story than people who find themselves in a serious dumpster moment (as Christie must have felt at her husband’s outrageous betrayal) who turn it around to shine as brightly as you do. Perhaps all the Founders could answer how they also turned disaster moments around. Many could benefit from their experience. Especially today. Thanks.
