Liz Smith: Dominick Dunne's Battle in Bavaria; Natasha – One Scoop I'd Like to Have Been Wrong About

I think "counting the numbers" it was Liz Smiths way of acknowledging just how many people loved and-or were moved by the tragic passing of Natasha Richardson. In my view, it was more of a tribute to Ms.Richardson that a pat on the back for wow.

Lifetime Executive Andrea Wong Toots Network's Horn, In a Good Way

Genius? Really? Wonder what Mensa would have to say.

Islamic Head Scarf Sparks Controversy in Norway (Video)

Reminds me of all the bra-burning we saw over here in the sixties.

Madoff Pleads Guilty to 11 Felony Counts (Update)

By pleading guilty he avoids a trial. By avoiding a trial, he avoids the investigation and subpoenas and testimonies that would shed light on where the money went and who helped him pull things off. Who’s he protecting? That’s my quesiton.

17 Less Women Billionaires: Forbes Billionaires List Reports

Honestly, rich or poor, it’s all about who you’ve put your faith in for the past twenty years. A lot of "wealthy" people have evidently failed us all.

17 Less Women Billionaires: Forbes Billionaires List Reports

"Fewer it IS! And ever SHOULD Be!" quoth the channeled schoolmarm. But "fewer" seems to be a word that’s fallen out of fashion…or at least nobody differentiates it and its agreement with plural nouns from "less" and its correct agreement with singular nouns. Less is all you ever hear these days. Less people, less dollars, less and less creative ideas. It’s literally an abomination! Drives me crazy.

Activists Split on White House's Women's Council

I’ll be very interested to see how often this council speaks up, what policy reforms it initiates, and the congressional response to their voice. This could be the start of something big.

I already think the idea of lengthening the school day to coincide with a regular work day will be a huge boon to working parents of both genders…AND their otherwise, all-too-often latch-key kids.

American Journalist Roxana Saberi Tells Dad She's Unharmed, Media Wants Proof

And as far as Miss Saberi is concerned, it ain’t over til it’s over. Even if she’s released from prison, they may not let her come home.

Almost Half of Nation Views Limbaugh 'Very, Very Negatively'

Hi Frannie, I know what you mean about Rush. Glad you turned him off. My poor brother, whose mental capacities were already impaired during the Viet Nam years, is just putty in Limbaugh’s hands. He listens to him incessantly. And certain triggers can turn this normally gentle and soft-spoken man into the most hateful, sarcastic cynic. It’s so sad. Frightening, really. My mother listens to him too, but I think she just does it to arm herself against my brother’s outbursts.

The 'American Idol' Twist: Something Unpredictable on Last Night's Show

Is American Idol part of the arts world or the schmartz world?

Steele Breaks With GOP on Abortion: It's an 'Individual Choice'

I can’t get too worked up over Steele’s statement. If he thinks the state should decide, he still doesn’t really think it’s a choice each woman should be free to make, and he’d still like to see Roe v. Wade overturned. So I don’t see the problem.

Maryland Bank Apologizes to Muslim Woman Asked to Remove Head Scarf

I’m glad to hear NFCU extended an apology to this woman. No hard-working American citizen who’s merely living up to her own sense of propriety should be held up to suspicion, especially in a place of business where she’s been visible for a decade. Rules can be rules, but overzealous enforcement can lead to embarassment.

Liz Smith: What Is It About Rachel Maddow's TV Success?

Oh, wouldn’t I love to see "33 Variations"! If only… I’m sure Jane Fonda is just exquisite, but Beethoven is such a mysteriously adorable character. I’d love to see how they focused this plot. My favorite so far, in terms of the portrayal of the man’s character, has been "Copying Beethoven." But this one sounds equally insightful. Well…maybe someday I’ll see a production of it somewhere. But it won’t have Jane Fonda, or that fresh sheen of a new production. (sigh…)
