Dear Margo: Why Choose To Feel Rotten?

#1…When you buy a bushel of apples, there are bound to be some rotten ones.  People automatically want to throw each rotten apple out and reach for the next one.  But because it’s a blood linked dad we’re talking about, it’s hard to toss him out.  He will be your dad forever whether you like it or not like it.

Most times it’s better to make applesauce with the good side of the apple, rather than toss it out completely.

Summing the Summits: More Splendid Speeches, by Liz Peek

I forgot to mention that the arrest and the foiled attempt to blow up the Springfield Illinois federal building wasn’t the working of Bush’s policies in Springfield.  It was an effort of the IBI, FBI, Springfield police and ISP.   I actually know some after-the-fact inside info on this living right in the heartland of Springfield Illinois.  Bush might have done a good job when 9-11 occurred, but he has left the building and left his papers, and, as computers need updating, so do procedures in curtailing terrorist actions.

What is the quality you most like in a man?

Quality in a Man = If he will still love his mate through thick and thin and especially during sickness  and during these times he will do the dishes, do the laundry, sweep the floor, cook the meal and ask if there’s anything else he can do.  And even make her quiche and eat it.

Among women you know on Medicare, has the program worked well/been successful?

I’m a woman on Medicare - due to my disability. But, I’m a lucky woman as I’m also covered under my husband’s employer plan which acts as the primary plan.  Most people under Medicare aren’t so lucky to have an excellent employer plan although the Medicare Supplement plans offered by many insurance companies to people over age 65 pay almost everything left over after Medicare pays.

Nowdays people are clamouring for a government plan.  Medicare is a government plan and it has been around for many years and in fact since 1965.  Americans just don’t seem to realize Medicare is indeed a tried and true Public Government Plan.  And if we are to someday get what is called a public plan for everyone in America, Medicare could easily be the model.

Medicare is a godsend plan to the elderly but if the person doesn’t purchase a supplemental plan, there are extensive deductibles and co-pays which some persons aren’t able to afford.  Medicare has been around for a long time and operates to get persons out of the hospital as soon as possible. There are a lot of internal controls within the Medicare plan and therefore, I don’t see it breaking the bank as was indicated above and I feel that spreading words like this only puts fears in older people covered by Medicare.  (What might break the bank is the sheer number of baby boomers which will be entering the Medicare plan)  Doctors who accept Medicare patients are required to accept the payments Medicare determines to be reasonable.   If they don’t want to accept this payment, then they must refuse to treat Medicare patients….thus they lose out on this patient base.

In 1983 Congress established a prospective payment system (PPS) for Medicare reimbursement of inpatient acute care hospital services. Under PPS, Medicare payment is made at a predetermined, specific rate for each discharge. All discharges are classified according to a list of diagnosis-related groups (DRGs). The list contains approximately 500 specific DRGs. Each DRG is assigned a dollar amount based on the average cost of caring for patients with similar diagnoses in the past. The reimbursement for gall bladder, for example, might be set at $1800. For every patient treated in the hospital for gall bladder the hospital would receive $1800 in Medicare reimbursement regardless of whether the patient’s care actually cost the hospital less, or more, to deliver. This means that the hospital can make a profit by discharging a patient as early as possible. On the other hand, the hospital will suffer a financial loss if the patient remains in the hospital too long. In essence the hospital has a financial incentive to give less care.  This may be the wrong way to go about this…..but in essence, this is price control.  The way this system is designed and operates for Medicare would be easy to adopt in any new health care reform plan…..the hospitals may not like it though.  As explained, the doctors are subject to price controls in accepting the determined reasonable charge and the hospitals also are under price controls.

I think the Part D plan is a farce (my opinion only of course)  and should have been written to provide a greater benefit maximum….it leaves what is called a donut hole/gap.  Congress should have seen through the fog on this before passing this and they should have made sure a smooth operation was in place before making if effective…..I just think it could have been so much better if more thought had been put into it.   This plan seems to me to be nothing more than putting your money in a pot so that it can be paid out for your drugs.  People could do that by putting their money in a bank account and paying their drugs from that….in view of this, it’s my opinion this plan doesn’t pay enough for the premiums which are charged.  In addition, it’s my opinion (and each person should seek information to make their own) that anyone who is also covered by another medical plan (employer or extended by retirement) should never enroll in Plan D while under this other medical plan with a drug benefit. Unfortunately there have been many problems with Part D such as low income persons being charged the wrong cost-sharing and therefore had to pay it back….their premiums weren’t deducted from their Social Sec. checks or were wrong amounts were deducted….and many drugs not covered.

I guess my whole opinion about Medicare in total,  would be don’t knock it if you don’t anything or very little about it.  And don’t forget that America does have a government plan….just hope that it only gets better for the many many people who are nearing the age to be covered by Medicare.

Sorry to have gone on and on……thirty plus years of health insurance and Medicare Experience at the Executive level stays with you a long time.

Margo Howard: The Origins of Obama Rage?

Margo….applause….applause.

A voice of reason.  And respect for an American President.  One doesn’t have to like a President, but the respect should always be there.  And when it’s not there, the person shows their worth or lack of it.

Margo Howard: The Origins of Obama Rage?

*****splutter splutter*****  wiping coffee from the screen …… from laughing of course!

Margo Howard: The Origins of Obama Rage?

Yes, Joe Wilson is a Republican. Can I believe that he likes Obama? We all know the answer to that. Of course he greatly dislikes him. Probably because he’s a black man but I can’t say for sure, but I know many Republicans who don’t like him because he’s black. (I still talk to many high-ups in the Republican party so I actually see their attitude and they ARE showing their dark side.) Or, is it because Joe Wilson can’t get over the fact that President Obama supposedly stole the election from the Republicans. It’s time to get over that fact. President Obama was elected …. and by the majority of Americans.

I was born a Republican, a multi-generation family of Republicans. I rubbed elbows with the Bush family at young George’s first inauguration ball. At the time, I thought the Republican way was just about the only way to go. Then, the Republican party started to change. They became more and more SNARKY and hateful and adopted an "it’s my way or the hiway" attitude. The change wasn’t for the good of America…it was for the good of the Republican party. They sent me survey forms…..and I still get them. They are hateful masterpieces …. at least the Republican party thinks they are masterpieces. I feel these Snarky pieces of criticism warrant the garbage pail only. Because of the Party’s attitude, I’ll never consider going back.

When Joe Wilson shouted out, in a highly respected atmosphere, and especially when it was our President speaking, it shows how low this Republican is stooping. In my opinion he is not worthy of keeping his position and he should be banned from the congressional halls forever for his gaffe and lack of civil grace. As much as the Democrats disliked Bush for some of his later years’ faux pas, Democrats didn’t heckle President Bush. No, the Democrats were bigger people than that.

The reason for the heckling was a statement about illegal aliens. Rather than calling out a President in a respected atmosphere, why didn’t he send a memo to the president or the speaker of the house. Why didn’t he write a bill to correct what he considered a lie. No, he wanted to call attention to the world that a President was supposedly lying when he shouted out at the President….Because of hate of the President? Why does would he hate the President? Why would any person actually want to hate the President because of his color or of his political standing? This man was elected by the majority of people . Who gives a didly-doo-doo about the way his points have dropped….who the heck cares….he was elected and there is not much you or anyone can do about it. Points mean nothing. Get over it. And be civil. I am living proof that a person can change. A Republican who went to the Democrats. And from being on this site through the election, the only reason some of you said you were going to be voting as a Republican is because Hillary Clinton, a Democrat, wasn’t in the running for the President. You know who you are…..although I could name names.

America needs a cohesive binding of the parties in order to for the President to accomplish the tall orders that everyone wants. You want this and that to happen, but the complainers never have a reasonable way to get the job done. Complaining, heckling, calling the man a racist name or pointing fingers isn’t getting anything done. It’s showing the dark side of mankind.

Putting aside matters of law, criminality and ethics, what three people would you nominate to be offed?

Dear Liz… I’ve been here a long time, almost from the first week (under an another name) …. I’ve come and gone ….and even taken breaks because of the content of your wow site. Now I know why I take breaks from this site.

I’m an adult although I wish I were still a kid with a carefree attitude.  Being an adult, I would never wish anyone to be knocked off, either in jest or in a serious matter.  I value my relationship with God in a way which prohibits that.

A steady stream of gaffes and, especially one which is in as bad taste as this one, really indicates to me that you are seriously lacking feeling towards your readers.  This is not something to be comical with, laugh about or justify that we are adults and should be able to consider this light and something that could be made into a laughable topic.

Sincerely,

Rainbow

Liz Smith: Texas Today – Gone With the Wing-Nuts

I doubt that is the correct interpretation…..keep in mind that there are many many children who are born on foreign soil who are Americans…….and better yet, there are those children who are born here on US soil and they are US citizens if I recall my college days education.

Here ya go……an immigration study site.

On the anniversary of 9/11, what do you carry in your heart about this day?

You wept, I wept, and the whole world wept with us. Senseless deaths caused by a senseless reason.
