What conspiracy theory or rumor swirling around swine flu are you subscribing to?

Mommy Dearest…I’m with you.  After Peggy sees and verifies the conspiracy in the stars, Margo could write a Dear Ann letter to give us all advice on what we ought to do.

Of course that would be after Dr. Oz and Dr. Phil verify  that there will be no medical reactions.

Oh yes, I forgot that one of the judges, Judge Alex, Judge Mathis, or Judge Penny better be involved to assure compliance with all laws.

In theory, that ought to work!

Once a Republican, Sen. Arlen Specter Switching to Democratic Ticket

Dear Senator Spector:  Do the switch.  Many have.  Elephant dung is a little harder to get off the shoes than donkey doo.  And donkey doo doesn’t smell quite so badly.

May my pet vampire bat PQQP on the swine that first caused this flu.

What's the first thing you would do if you were fired from your job?

Kermie….I remember when you told us about your job loss….I wanted to reach out and hug you as I knew how you felt.  People can say how they would feel and what they would do, but until it happens, I doubt that most will actually know what they would do and how it feels.  I’m still thinking of you and wishing good thoughts and good wishes for the bestest job in the land to come your way.  That new door opening is bound to happen for you.   ~~~~~~: >)

What's the first thing you would do if you were fired from your job?

I was never fired but lost a very high paying job after 30 years of employment, due to corporate downsizing.   I called my husband first and we were scared together.  This is what I did and how I felt:

1. Do you remember how you felt when your longtime boyfriend/girlfriend dumped you? Your whole body feels numb. Thoughts keep swirling in your head about why did this happen.  You cry every hour or so.  And when you talk to anyone, you cry some more.

2.  In between crying, you holler out to anyone and no one, how in the he!! am I going to pay bills?  How am I going to buy food?  How am I going to pay the mortgage?  Do I have enough money in the bank?

3.  Then I questioned whether or not I would be eligible for unemployment as I had never had this kind of thing before.

4.  Then I questioned my self-worth even though it wasn’t a true firing, I still lost my job.

5.  You watch television but don’t see or comprehend.

6.  You do this same thing for a couple of weeks.  Then,  each week gets a little better.  You begin to come out of the shell you have put yourself.  You begin to understand the finality of this and not going to work each day.

7. You begin to know that you have to do a resume and send it out and get a better job than the one you had.

8.  Then you get a job, maybe not as well paying, but still pretty good.  One door closed in your face but another brighter colored door opened and welcomed you in.

Life goes on until another crisis hits you.  It might happen again.  Be prepared, emotionally and financially.  The nightmare comes and goes, but we survive.

Is the Blonde Age Over for Manhattan's Ruling Class?

I have always wanted to be blonde.  But, I was born the child of a black haired man and a dark brunette woman so need I tell you I was a dark haired Saturday’s child.

Now the gray is beginning to come and the hair is totally white in the front at the crown on both sides and the durn stuff is rather sparsely arranged on the top of my head due to some medical conditions.  Dare I get the full treatment and become a blonde or a redhead or at least something sophisticated before I join the ranks of the age where people don’t dye their hair and go gray all the way?  I always think of the old commercial….only your hairdresser knows.  (And your mate too!)

Dear Margo: Leaving Well Enough Alone

Thanks OH!….I’ve had experience with a jerk …. they say you learn by experience!

Treasury Dept. Preparing Bankruptcy for Chrysler, Say Sources

I am usually on the side of the working person, but these auto workers have benefits, pensions and salary amounts which are much higher than the typical blue collar worker and even a lot of white collar.  People who are building cars at companies which are not a Big Three and where the workers are non-union are not making anywhere near these salaries.  And the car prices of these companies are much lower and the cars have good warranties….and they stand behind the warranties unlike some of the Big Three.

I read that Fiat said they wouldn’t merge, even though that merger was a part of the requirements, because of no concessions have been made with the auto workers.  The auto workers really haven’t made any concessions.  The auto workers have said something to the affect that new workers now start at $14 but there haven’t been any new workers…so this is superfluous.  Laid off auto workers get most of their salary…regular non-auto workers sure don’t get this.  And retirees get their full medical benefits and super good pension benefits.  Many non-auto worker retirees are now being asked to participate in the cost of their health care premiums.

My husband is a blue collar worker who lost a very high paying job due to closing a facility.  From our family’s standpoint, if he had been asked if he were willing to accept a much lower salary but still have a job the answer would have been yes.  The older you get the harder jobs are to find. And, to me, having a job is better than not having a job.  Many of those auto workers will never find jobs because of their age.  They will just accept their full pay as being laid off as well as their state/federal unemployment checks and then draw their pensions.  No wonder they don’t want to cut benefits and pay.   Appears it’s a Catch-22.

Dear Margo: Leaving Well Enough Alone

#1…Pretend all you want honey but three’s a crowd.  Too many emotions can crowd the boat.

#2…Go pack some items, take the best car you own, draw out all the money in the bank account, go to a friend’s or mother’s or anywhere.  Find a lawyer who will accept payments or willing to include that the ex has to pay the fees, don’t worry….you’ll get the house if you want it….and everything else too.  When the judge hears about this father’s antics, he/she will throw the book at him.

When a company's opinions or stances are discordant with your own, are you reluctant to buy from them?

I, too, have begun to dislike many things about Walmart, but I still am purchasing the $4.00 prescriptions.  But there are now other pharmacies offering similar so when the script expires, the new one just may be somewhere else.

If anyone has noted, Walmart has gone to the "Buy Big" approach.  Many things are now only available in big quanity amounts.  Sometimes I want to buy only small amounts.  And, their price increases are not in baby steps, their increases are in leaps and bounds.  And they don’t like to run sales…..boo, hiss!

Sheila Lukins's Food Face-Lift (Recipes)

Darn…I though I would be able to look at this post and see that I could buy a $.89 cucumber or a $2.50 eggplant instead of having a $30,000 facelift.

In this recession, do you think there's more or less emphasis this year on going green?

That apple cider vinegar is just the best stuff.  I read somewhere that the Russians were so hooked on using vinegar, they used it on all of theie battlefields to kill bacteria.

I know you can put it on crabgrass to kill it.  Also on mold in your yard.  Gargle it for sore throat, take it for digestion, put baking soda followed by vinegar to clean out stopped up drains, swallow a couple of tablespoons with honey for overall heart and blood in the body as well as arthritis and relief from the common cold, vinegar and water to clean your windows, mix vinegar and water for acid loving plants in your garden (rhododendrums), use it in milk to use as a substitute for buttermilk in recipes, mix vinegar and glycerine to kill warts, relieve itching of bug bites, douches for female cleanliness, condition hair, wipe a mixture of vinegar and water on your windshield to prevent ice forming on windshield overnight, clean film from glassware, clean hard water build-up from faucets and jets and tubes….and on and on.

That’s just a few uses for apple cider vinegar.  Where can you buy a bottle of unfriendly chemicals which can be used for so many things????

If we all just do a couple of things a day to clean up or restore our earth, we will on our way to survival.  Put your vegetable and fruit waste on the earth.  It will become more healthy earth. Refuse to buy window cleaner for the next year and use vinegar and water instead.  Use cloth diapers on your baby or grandbaby instead of plastic covered diapers.  Recycle cans, plastic, and paper.  Use earth friendly bio-degradable tissue paper in your bathroom.  Let’s strengthen our pitifully and woeful ecological resources and build them to great magnitude.  And if you want to call it something other than "Greening" or "Go Green", etc, do it for earth’s sake.  Just do something - no matter how small.

If we don’t do something, there will be no more apple trees to grow our apples to make our wonderful vinegar.  There will be no more fish in the sea.  There will be no more dogs and cats for pets.  There will be no more us.

Earth is us, we are the earth, it’s ours to take care of.  Where would we go if the earth fails.  There is no where to go.  Take care of Mother Earth.  She provides us with food, clothing, prosperity and growth.  She loves us but she must be treated with love and affection.

Sen. Feinstein Tells Obama: Let Senate Weigh Torture Prosecution

Why is everyone still arguing about this on wow?  Do you think the government officials, representatives, senators, president all read your wow comments and will use these comments to run right out and clear things up?  Arguments between two different opposing  sides on the wow site does what?  Maybe gives both sides and the masthead ladies hateful feelings towards others, headaches and stress. Maybe you should be writing your congressional representatives and telling them what you think….torture vs. no torture…right or wrong… prosecute or not prosecute.  How will your representatives know how you feel if you don’t write and tell them.  I did that already.  Just my opinion of course…..for what it’s worth.
