If you were writing your obituary, what would you title it?

Funny thing happen on the way ….. This evening my nieces are spending the night and we’re baking Halloween treats, I chuckled telling them at my funeral my husband would say: “Laurie used to whined she was no “Betty Crocker” to assert her womanhood but really is her way to get out of cooking dinner”

How much do YOU spend on your wardrobe each year?

I love great clothes and shoes but snowsuits, school clothes and any other items my children need come first. My luxury is shopping alone. Have a great day.

If you could give away one million dollars, what or who would you give it to?

Good question, I immediately thought of the Native Women’s Shelter up here in Montreal. At the bottom of the barrel as far as shelter’s go in the city, being a house design to serve the native population. The shelter relies on obscure government funds and too few charitable donors. One million dollars would last for years in programs tailored to the needs of aborignal women and their children. Like funding the emergency outreach food program or self-esteem and empowering courses.

Happy Columbus Day! In life, what uncharted waters have you traversed and what ones have you yet to traverse?

You know that Columbus guy in Native American circles is not well liked for all the obvious reasons and I’ll save it for another day. As for maiden voyages traversed, marriage and motherhood are the biggest for the one time ultra single and independent woman I thought I was. That was until, two sick children projectiling vomit and frantically depending on my husband to help as we parked on the side of the road. Yet traverse voyages are my ideal career as an writer and author and going to Vegas.

Do you believe in ghosts? Have you ever had an out-of-body experience or felt an otherworldly presence you couldn't deny?

Being Iroquoian and growing up with the teaching of my cultures, ghosts or “spirits” are intergral part of our life. From celebrating them several times a year to hearing legends, I believe in them. I cannot really say I had an experieince with a spirit or an out of body experience. Yet when I was a teenager I did experience a surreal event with a group of friends. At a summer camp we witnessed a glowing statue in one of our tents. I often wondered if it was a hoax on their part or real. Thinking about it, there was no electricity to project the image in our tent, so who knows. My interpetation of spirit is in thought form, as I see it (lol) or not, spirits exist but are unseen. I could be proven wrong and meet my spirit guide tonight. Take care and have a great weekend.

Do your families have any stories of surviving the Great Depression and, if so, how did they influence you?

My dad was born 1929 and always told me he walked four miles to sell minnows for a quarter. This always came up when I asked him for a ride or a quarter. He had it tougher than the average living on a reservation. I heard stories of a soup bone shared between families and the men of the community travelling thousands of mile for high steel work.

What is your favorite form of procrastination?

Lately, my favorite form of procastiinating is surfing the web, I use the excuse it stirs my creative juices before writing my blog or book. In reality, proscastination and I dear old friends from college. lol.

Yesterday was World Teachers' Day. Who was your favorite teacher and why?

This may be odd but I had many great teachers like my calculus professor in university who let me test early to be by mother’s side. I passed with a narrow margin, bless him, I cannot remember his name. But he stands out for his compassion and understanding, and his unique approach to teaching and getting his students to understand Calculus!

What was the best take-away your education gave you?

In my final year, there was a “Mickey Mouse” course (easy) available only to sophmores called On Death and Dying by Graham Moodie. The course studied everything on death from visiting the local funeral home and graveyard to reading literature on coffins. I aced the course with 90 something percent. The following year my mother died and that course put a whole new spin on death and turned out pretty helpful. The other best take-away from college, my best friend. Still friends some twenty years later.

When is a big family too big?

I come from a family of nine, growing up we were a big family, not the biggest my high school friend came from a family of thirteen. In our neighborhood large families, more than five, were the norm. Today, large families are oboselete and a stigma is attached. I know of a woman who has seven children, my sister has five and I have two. My decision was based on sanity. You know when you need less people around you when solitude is something high valued and a must. Family size is a personal decision and should be left that way.

If you're in a long-term relationship, has the power shifted?

Just recently I reliquished the financial duties to my husband and love it. That’s the only power shift of late. More power to him.

Palin Goes From Breath-of-Fresh Air to Hick; McCain's Rattled and Confused, by Margo Howard

Hi Margo, I am out of my league when I comment on this being that I live in Montreal and in close proximity to the United States border. I just watched a portion of the Katie Couric interview with Sarah Palin and that girl is out of her league. Would someone help her! How calculatingly cruel of John McCain to chose her as his vice president. She may be good for the Alaskan people, except the Aboriginal population, but she stinks at the national level. You could see her nervousness as her body twitched and her eyes flickered. Poor Sarah. I think the SNL skits with Tina Fey do her some justice. I really gave her the benefit of doubt until I listened to her. Good luck.

Choosing from our 2008 list, who do you think is the sexiest man over 50?

By far, Richard Gere. I love the grey hair and his eyes. His features are strong like a Mohawk.

What's the nicest thing a neighbor ever did for you?

The nicest thing a neighbor did for me happened last year when my son was put on the bus instead of keeping him in the after school program. He was six, I was at work, and my boss at the time insisted on having a meeting despite my panic state. Thank goodness, my neighbor fetched him off the bus and looked after him until we returned from work. She moved since and life has not been the same.
