A group of 40 dedicated elephant advocates came to the Dallas Zoo to demonstrate their concern for the plight of Jenny and Gypsy on a hot breezy summer morning. A local animal welfare group, Animal Connection of Texas, partnered with the IDA and created a local flyer, amazing signs & brought water & sunscreen for participants. WOW Women, I appreciate your empathy and efforts for Jenny! I can relate to the feelings of isolation, confusion and frustration. I am networking with local animal advocates to investigate other possibilities to get more council members to support Jenny’s transfer to The Elephant Sanctuary. A leafletting effort is scheduled for this coming Saturday @ the zoo to coincide with an event being held there. I’ve been informed that there have been discussions with park & rec board members, as well as other efforts. Along w/ y’all, I certainly wish compassion and reason would overcome a majority of the decision makers ~ until then we all keep working for Jenny to load up her trunk and go to Tenny! the monorail does not run thru the yet-to-be-developed African Savanah exhibit. The elephant portion is to initially have approx 4 acres of the proposed Savanah exhibit. the city has plans to bring in a bull elephant, along w/ other females. see the city’s bid request for the proposed exhibit at dallascityhall.com/pom/african_savanna_exhibit.html

the mayor gave the group of Jenny supporters 15 minutes to speak ~ 3 speakers made statements @ today’s 8.27.08 city council meeting. council meetings can be heard on 101.1 WRR, a city owned station.

Linda, the zoo publicly stated not money was going to be exchanged for Jenny’s transfer to Mexico. The zoo’s rationale for keeping Jenny at the Dallas Zoo is they now fear transporting Jenny would be too stressful for her!
