Have you ever gotten sick and then experienced health care in another country?

I do watch PBS and CSpan…….and I read all I can and take CEUs like everyone.

I am not out of synch someone with a big degree usually is because they have studies and meeting all the time to try and teach nurses what to do on the floor working—sometimes when they themselves have never worked in a unit.

Unless I am talking to someone who has more than 5 years experience WORKING as a nurse in acute care—I really don’t have much to say.

Fast Track Clinics were started to try and ease the burden of all the people who used the ER like it was a Doctors office.

They have a cold and no insurance—oh well just go to the ER—they can’t turn you away.

In the meantime there are numerous seriously acute patirnts whose time you are taking up with the personnel—like gun shot wounds to the head etc….

The improper use of the ER got us into trouble with insurance companies.

I do not think nurses even make enough money now—what I meant was some go into nursing looking for a cash cow—and you can find it—as long as you are not out in the units—there they do not survive.

A friend of mine just became an RN with a Masters Degree—she is and always has been book smart—I would drop dead on the spot if I ever opened my eyes and saw her standing over me inthe hospital.

She has no natural assesment skills nor courage to make it,

And it takes courage.

Patients do not remember what piece of paper you have hanging on your wall with degrees……

.they remember who takes care of them….

who had the assessment skills to note they were going nto respiratory failure etc…..

They never forget you—-years later—they see you in a store and they remember you like it was yesterday.

The only time a Doctor in the USA will refer someone to the ER is when they are not working or-they have a life threatening emergency-shortness of breath-chest pain,,,,,,people go to the ER for hangnails now and thats not what it is meant for.

I only retired 3 years ago not that much has changed….maybe in Massachusetts we are different.

Most nurses I meet now are straight out of nursing school looking for big money with many degrees behind them—

wrong reason to go into nursing.

My fellow co-workers and I could always spot them—they never last or survive on the unit,

they go to offices usually.
