My Comments (1117 so far…)

First came Katie Couric, and now we have Diane Sawyer. Is gender bias in television journalism a thing of the past?

"… Back then we denizens of the womens pages wrote lots of "first woman" stories. First woman fire fighter. First woman anchor. First congresswoman from this district or that. Etc.

Such a long way we’ve come! Sawyer isn’t even close to being the first female news anchor (Barbara Walters suffered a tremendous trial by fire in that role) and that’s a good thing.

Yes, we’ve made tremendous progress. Highly paid "authority-figure" positions — doctors, lawyers, TVanchors — now are populated by women. But we still have a ways to go.

Still, I’m thrilled!  By E Rhodes on 09/18/2009 3:35 pm"

I was about to point out that Barbara Walters broke through that all male ceiling, first!  Thank you for pointing it out, as well.

I sometimes get frustrated with such stories, only to realize the errors in the details.

I am happy that women are finally making in-roads into this facade of an all male anything, world!

Barbara Walters, like so many of us, have had to struggle just to keep our heads above water, all in the name of progress.  Yet, if and when our male counter-parts struggle they are given a "key to the city"  a lot of hooplah, and LOTS of money!!  I will be able to relax and appreciate the advancement of women in our society, when it is simply a common occurrence.

Chauvinism is not yet dead!  GASP!

9 Signs Your Friend Is Toxic

is all a good friend to have… correction - is also a good friend to have.

9 Signs Your Friend Is Toxic

Ro H—I agree.  And those same instincts tell you when you have a keeper, right?  I have core friends I have known since grade school, high school, college—all who have my back when times get tough, I don’t even have to ask them, they are just there.  I am there for them, also, but I have always wondered how I lucked out.

I submit to you - one who has friends such as you, is all a good friend to have…

You seem to have a good sensibility, and that certainly does help when it comes to friendships.  Blessings!

9 Signs Your Friend Is Toxic

Oh please.  If a friend is toxic, you know it.  It doesn’t take a brain trust or the next hot book to see that.  I have a handful of friends who are there for me in good times and bad.  As you get older the number gets smaller and more precious—because it is real. By kermie b on 09/14/2009 12:50 am kermie b - I reacted kind of the same way as you…  It doesn’t take a genius to recognize toxic friends, but… it does take intelligence to realize we don’t have to keep them in our lives. I pretty much leave it up to my "gut" if I get a tightness in my stomache, when they are around, it usually means I am feeling tense around them.  Or, they just outright make me feel crazy when they come around - which means they are getting on my last nerve!  I rely on my instincts - they almost never fail.

Diminished Labor Unions Have a Friend in Obama, by Liz Peek

if not for Unions, none of us would have the protections, decent wages and benefits we get now because of the existence of Unions and the effect they had not only on their own industries, but those who were not unionized but had to bring up their standards because of the Union standards elsewhere. By DeBúrca obj on 09/04/2009 1:30 pm So true, DeBurca obj ! If more people were to support Unions, we would have less a squabble about equity in things like; Health Care, Pay, Medical Leave, equity in Women’s issues, promotions, etc., It makes me wonder just how far-reaching it could really be.  Imagine if there were union scale for the military?  Hmmmm? Maybe we wouldn’t need private contractors in the midst of war…? Perhaps more people would want to be in the military - Imagine having fair pay and benefits, too!  omgosh!

Lily's Warmest Thank You

HAPPY (belated) Birthday, Lily!   I missed it since I haven’t been online for awhile.  Blessings to you, along the way!

wOw Reports: The Best News of the Week – From YOU!

This is a good article. It doesn’t surprise me. http://www.alternet.org/politics/141969/why_the_right%27s_%27astroturfing%27_propaganda_is_textbook_psychopathic/ By S G on 08/16/2009 2:29 pm Diana and S.G.  Thanks for your wisdoms.  I called my Senators office and asked the simplest question, and her staff couldn’t respond of course, but I could almost see there mouths agape wanting so badly to discuss it with me… I asked, "How can Republican Legislators get away with such blatant lies?" Aren’t there some criteria for honesty, integrity, and illegal-illicit behaviors in our Congress?  If not, there should be a psychological/personality profile testing process before anyone can hold office - or, even just a lie detector test.  I always appreciated the days when they used to believe that a persons handshake, and their word was sufficient to make a deal or trade with one another.  Now, a persons word seems to be bought so easily - forget about whether their word is honest or not.

Sarah Palin Fights Back Against More 'Bull Crap' Ethics Violations

Poor Sarah, the Eternal Victim.  By Diana T on 07/22/2009 3:05 pm Ain’t it true, Diana!?  Hi there… just browsing and couldn’t resist this subject. Many commedians are hoping Palin will stick around for awhile, there is so much material there. Of course, someone had to bring up the Clinton debacle once again… as I have said many, many times - at least he only screwed an intern!  Further, as long as that side continues to bring up that one incident, it seems we see less and less of a real platform from them. Also, the more they discuss morality, it seems the more of ‘them’ seem to get caught up in their own little sexual webs of deceit, dishonesty, and disgrace. When do you suppose there will be some originality from the Repub leadership?? Just saying…

Should the U.S. be more involved in the election aftermath in Iran?

NO!  Not yet, we have to bide our time.  Unfortunately, Iran would love nothing more than to blame this whole mess on US!

God help the people of Iran!  Neda became an unwitting martyr in Iran.  As she lay dying, I could not help fixate on her eyes.  I saw how she was trying, (from my perspective) to communicate as she stared directly into the camera phone, or video.

I felt absolute astonishment and horror as I watched her die.  It came to me… this is NOT a movie, it is real life!!!  How horrid.  I knew almost instantly, the Iranians now have a martyr - how awful and sad that is!

I began to wear an arm band of green and white, I do not know if this is correct or not.  I think they have colors which determine which person one supports.  Does anyone know for certain?

BTW;  Thanks for continuing this site.  I do not know if there are any rules about going in and out… <grin>  I still support the purposes of this website, and appreciate all the women who founded it.  Thank you all.

What Is Dick Cheney Thinking? Peggy Rometo Speaks

Cheney

Is a man with a vengance to control - basically, the world.  He must actually believe in his own view points… grin

I believe he is narcissistic and inhumane-disconnected from feeling.

Otherwise how could anyONE be so irresponsible?

Liz Smith: Ann Richards Would Have Seceded Rick Perry's Head From His Shoulders!

Ann Richards was one tough woman!  I miss her and her great wit.

I think she would have said something quite appropriate to the Perry person, like; "If you don’t like the United States, what are you doing in TEXAS? move back to Mexico!"

What might the loss of our tradition of bipartisanism mean for the country?

I just browsed the first page comments and thought, "WoW have we ever created a monster, here!  I have found the Republican Party to have changed so much in this past decade, I have very little respect for them now.  I like Susan Collins and Olmpia Snowe above all others - since Senator Spector has become a Democrat, I do not include him.  I think it has to do with their seeming ability to reason outside of the "party-line" rather than follow blindly, and they are moderate, which helps.

I sense the Repubs. are about to change their political-party name.  If they don’t it will really surprise me, since they haven’t acted like Republicans in more than a decade.  They have become something very much in alignment with the Cheney-Rove mentality, and it is rather scary to me.  There seems to be little concern or consideration for the human element, a machine without emotion, rather than a group of people.

Farrah Fawcett Confronts Death as Ryan O'Neal Hides a Lawsuit

I met Farrah and Ryan many years ago in Malibu, at a Mexican Restaurant-Fast Food combination, place.  I was talking with Ryan as Farrah approached, and she stopped cautiously when she noticed me, standing near the cars talking with Ryan.  She seemed to need to make sure I wasn’t some papparazi, or a freak fan.

As she stopped next to me, she gazed at my big, juicy burrito plate, and said, "Your food looks delicious, I am eating a vegetarian burrito."  I said to her, "Do you want to trade?"  She chuckled, and said, "I wish I could, yours looks so much better than mine."

Ryan was limping because he had injured his groin during a movie stunt, and I had to tease him a bit, of course…

I did finally ask them for their autographs, I just couldn’t pass up the chance of having their signatures on a really neat postcard, picture I had picked up.  As he was signing Ryan said, "Gee, we have the same names."  [Ro - R. O.]  I thought it sweet of him to say that.

I was consciously aware that I didn’t want to say their names outloud, because I didn’t want to have others come over and invade their privacy.  Looking back, I realize that must have seemed silly to them at the time.

They were both so gracious and friendly, and I feel blessed now, having met them.  I feel a kind of kindred spirit.  It may sound silly… but to me, it isn’t, it’s just the way I feel.

I am feeling such a profound sense of emotion as I watch the documentary, "Farrah’s Story."  This is one of those insane moments in human transitions which makes little sense to me.  Someone who wants so much to live… others simply throwing away their lives through suicide, or murder.  Life really isn’t always fair! Or kind.

Farrah, just know that you have definitely left your mark on the world, and there are so many people who have been touched by you and your life, in a variety of ways.  Namaste!  God Bless you, Farrah!
