I read some comments made by politicians in Alaska who’ve had to debate Palin in the past. Apparently, she was adept at skirting around the in-depth issues by using sarcasm against her opponents and using, what one described as her “cute” face (he apologized for sounding sexist, but claimed she used her coyness to get out of the tough questions). And the people of Alaska bought it, lock, stock and barrel. Now they’re stuck with her, and they’re complaining that the McCain campaign is running Alaska, and she’ll have much to answer to when she comes back to Alaska in November. I just hope Biden and Ifin call her on her dancing, skirting and down right refusal to give real answers to the tough questions.

We really need to stop listening to anything Sarah Palin has to say. Let’s face it , she’s half a bubble off plumb, and the Republicans probably know what they’re doing in not letting her answer impromptu questions. Even with scripted answers,she did poorly against Katie Couric. Saying that America may be on the road to a Depression sounds like more Republican terrorist tactics to me.

There are two people responsible for writing banking bills: Dodd and his House counterpart Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA). If Dodd wants input from the Republicans on this, he will ask the ranking member on his committee, Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL). McCain and Obama play no role and McCain knows that very well. Talk about grandstanding.

Dave made a great point about Sarah Palin, that if John is rushing back to Washington to fix the economy, then why doesn’t Sarah take over campaigning for him? Hmmmm…NOT a good idea. Where IS Sarah Palin????? All McCain’s bad choices are going to come back to bite him in the rear. According to a poll done yesterday, 75% of those polled believe the debate should be held tomorrow night, and 36% think the topic should be changed to debate the economy. What happens if McCain doesn’t show up?????

DeBurca, I agree 100%!! And did you read where it took John McCain SIX HOURS before he finally called Obama back?! I certainly hope the American people will see through this ploy. New from CNN Obama stated regarding not postponing the debate : “It’s my belief that this is exactly the time when the American people need to hear from the person who will be the next president. It is going to be part of the president’s job to deal with more than one thing at once. It’s more important than ever to present ourselves to the American people.” Regarding McCain’s call to join him in Washington to help participate in the debate over the economic recovery plan, Obama said, “If I can be helpful then I’m prepared to be anywhere, any time … [I] don’t want to infuse Capitol Hill with presidential politics.” He also hit McCain for switching from his stance as an advocate for market deregulation to a strong supporter of regulation since the Wall Street crisis became front-page news.”He’s suddenly a hard-charging populist,” Obama said. “And that’s all well and good, but I sure wish he was talking the same way over a year ago, when I introduced a bill that would’ve helped stop the multimillion-dollar bonus packages that CEOs grab on their way out the door.” Further more, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid stated “It would not be helpful at this time to have them come back during these negotiations and risk injecting presidential politics into this process or distract important talks about the future of our nation’s economy,” the statement said. “We need leadership, not a campaign photo op.If there were ever a time for both candidates to hold a debate before the American people about this serious challenge, it is now,” he added. McCain is clearly playing games in hopes of gaining points in the polls, which, BTW, Obama is now leading 52% to McCain’s 43%. What will poor, voiceless Sarah do now if John is off playing “hero” in Washington???

Joan, let’s not forget that those women over 50 are in bed with GRANDFATHERS ~ my “old man” can be pretty hot (sometimes).

I’m so sick of hearing about Sarah Palin, I could throw up. I hate having the media shoving her down my throat day in and day out, treating her like she’s some phenominal super star. I certainly hope Katie can expose Palin for what she really is— a controlling, lying bully with an ego the size of Alaska and mediocre intelligence. But as Sherrie said, Katie has an employer to answer to. It would be so nice if Palin forgets the script and commits a huge faux pas that the Republicans couldn’t explain away.

When Sarah Palin became McCain’s VP pick, I signed on with the Anchorage Daily News (adn.com) to receive daily email updates. I’ve learned a lot about Sarah Palin just by reading articles from this newspaper. Today I received this, which I believe McCain said on the View: “Republican presidential candidate, John McCain, said his running mate, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, hadn’t sought earmarks or special interest spending from Congress, presenting her as a fiscal conservative. But state records show Governor Palin has asked U.S. taxpayers to fund $453 million in specific Alaska projects over the past two years. These projects include more than $130 million dollars in federal funds that would benefit Alaska’s fishing industry and an additional $9 million to help Alaska oil companies. She has also sought $4.5 million tp upgrade an airport on a Bering Sea island that has a year-round population of less than 100”. So did she ask or didn’t she? Well, according to her own constituents, she asked for plenty. I will say one thing ~ McCain/Palin make a great team. Whatever one lies about, the other swears to it.

Darn, I’m going to miss it for sure! I heard last night’s disasterous interview. Can’t tune in tonight. I live in Houston and we’re currently batting down the hatches and hoping for the best. Pray for us here along the Texas Gulf Coast as Hurricane Ike comes roaring through.

In my area, just west of Houston, used home prices for older homes have decreased somewhat. However, our area is growing in leaps and bounds. Hundreds of new homes are being built, to the point where the school districts are struggling to keep up with the growth. I just heard that a major company is opening new offices here and transferring hundreds of families from the west coast. A brand new 3,000sf home can be purchased here for $275,000+, depending on the neighborhood you buy into. For those of us who own older homes in older neighborhoods, it’s harder to sell your house because there are so many new ones out there to choose from.

Whoopi, I was glad to see that you addressed the term “African American”. As a white person, I have always been puzzled by this term. I have ancestors from several European countries, but it would never occur to me to call myself a “European American”. I have a very dear friend of 26 years that is from Ghana, West Africa. She’s the only one of my friends who could actually call herself an “African” American, but she doesn’t. Though born and raised in Africa, she simply calls herself an American now, for that’s what she worked hard to become and is very proud of the fact.

Sorry, Mark, my husband and I still like baseball! I’m insulted that you assume that all couples cheat. Maybe YOU do, so that’s your basis for your rational. I know many, many couples who are monogomous, and until you can PROVE it, you can’t say that Barack has cheated on his wife.

Dona, Let’s just hope and pray that their “15” minutes of fame are over in 60 days, and the whole Palin clan will be back in their Alaskan home, sorting out all their family dramas away from the media glare.
