Happy Birthday, Whoopi! You’ve given me a lot of laughs over the years. I still remember the first HBO show I saw; you with the white half-slip on your head, pretending to be a girl with long, blond hair. I love it and still do!

I am extremely happy!!

Oh, Kryssi K, I am with you on that!! I got very tired of the “you betcha” and “by golly” style! I said to my husband this morning that Palin was pretty good at talking for 2 minutes without actually answering the question.

I am so glad he didn’t pick her, as I couldn’t stand 4 more years of Bill - and I know he would be in the news more than she or Barack.

I met John F. Kennedy when he was running for President in 1960. He had given a speech at my college (then Morris Harvey, now the University of Charleston (WV), and he was shaking hands with students as they passed by. Someone in line ahead of me told him that my last name was the same as his, and he asked if I could be related to him. Smart aleck that I was, I answered….”No, I’m a Protestant Republican.” (both those have now changed). Later, on telling a friend how he was looking at me as I walked down the hall backward, she said “If you played your cards right, you could have been “Fuddle” (referring to the code names for his two White House playmates, called “Fiddle and Faddle”.)

Tweed was favored by my mother back in the 50’s and 60’s, along with White Shoulders and Chanel #5. I wore Tweed too, and while I cannot conjure up the way it smelled, I know I’d recognize it if I opened a bottle again.

The one I have now, and have had for 26 years. I own a business designing wedding and gala flowers, and it is supremely fulfilling! I hope when I die, I am on my feet with a handful of flowers.

I didn’t break up with her, but my best friend is moving 400 miles away, and I’m going to be sad. What should I do?

Gasoline and food. Every time I go to the store I see rising prices for almost every food item. Gas is at $3.28 here. I have sharply curtailed my car usage, as best I can. It’s very hard to be on an almost fixed income these days, and the money we are supposed to get from the government (after filing our taxes and assuming we qualify) will do very little to stimulate the economy.

Edith Ann, it would take many printings of the warning stickers to cover all the politicians who need one!!
