Attorney General Eric Holder said the U.S. is a 'nation of cowards' when it comes to discussing race. Do you agree?

Hear, hear, Marjorie.  I feel that Blacks need to become less sensitive and Whites need to become less defensive so that the PAST problems can be acknowledged and forgiven and the FUTURE plans can get on to the table.

Attorney General Eric Holder said the U.S. is a 'nation of cowards' when it comes to discussing race. Do you agree?

Dear Sibelle, the definition of the word "coward" is: One who shows ignoble fear in the face of danger or pain. [cite:  The American Heritage Dictionary].  It is painful for American’s to talk about race, especially when individual citizens are setting parameters for that discussion.  "He better learn Diplocatie over power and violence, if he wants a civilized conversation!"  So there’s a script?  I can’t just start sharing my opinions, feelings and misinformation in the hopes that it will spark honest discussion which will lead to enlightenment and improvement?  C’mon.

First let me say how happy and grateful I am that we ARE talking about race.  I believe that we must air our private opinions, thoughts, rationales and misconceptions in order to clear them up and out.  In light of that, I’d be interested to know, Marjorie, where you get your information in order to state "blacks whose ancestors were slaves in America have a different attitude from those who simply came to America as immigrants."  I know a wide range of Blacks with heritage in the USA, numerous Caribbean countries and African countries.  What I DON’T know is that any of them have a differing attitude about being Black in the United States of America.  I doubt that any bigotted White American has ever distinguished a Black’s country of origin before subjecting that person to bigotry and hatred.

Hi Deber.  Slaveholders throughout history did not institute the dire methods which were used by the American culture to keep the institution going.  The American culture promoted that Black slaves were ANIMALS with an incapability for human emotion or thought processes.  It is THIS campaign which makes American history of slaveholding more heinous than previous cultures and has resulted in the continued misunderstanding and bitterness between White and Black American citizens.  A country cannot spend 400 years practicing slavery (+) 143 years practicing the disenfranchisement of some of its citizens and truly believe that a good, long talk isn’t necessary in order to make amends.  If you were a counselor of ANY other stereotyped goup would you tell a troubled group member he was dealing with "a simplistic scenario that hardly reflects the facts."??  Talking in an open-minded and non-defensive way is the only way for us American citizens to get over our past and get on with our future.

Dear Margo: When Getting Caught Is a Blessing

Dear Helplessly Broken,

It’s tempting to continue to give in to the feeling of being betrayed by your mother and "the fates".  I agree with Margo Howard that you need to take advantage of THIS situation.  It’s messed up that your private hopes blew up so publicly but you’ve now got the chance to explore yourself and learn why you do as you do and think as you think.  Maybe a better relationship with your mom will materialize.  Brush off any hard feelings and decide that (1) you thank your mom for loving and helping you and (2) you’re going to get the best out of this forced therapy and romantic separation that’s in there for you to get!  Good luck, Sugar.

(Great response, Margo!  Thank you.)

Dear President Obama: No One Voted for Despair and Change

Any person who uses the $600.00 to buy earrings is immature and self-indulgent, as well as being clueless about the catastrophe the our nation faces. I plan to buy food and a railroad tickets to get in to NYC for more job hunting. But to address your criticism of First Lady Obama’s previous “sneering” at the Republican-proposed tax cut…you’re right, Libra Lady…it was sneered at. Hmmmm.

Dear President Obama: No One Voted for Despair and Change

Dear Diamond in the Rough, Please tell me what your rant has to do with the subject at hand? Find an appropriate forum, my dear. Perhaps you could Google for a Ku Klux Klan site? I’m sure they’d be willing to back your rhetoric.

Whatever you think, Darling. I’ve dignified this enough.

Jessica Simpson Has Meltdown on Stage

Hear! Hear! If Jessica Simpson truly had sustainable singing talent she wouldn’t BE forgotten, regardless of how long her hiatus.

Jessica Simpson Has Meltdown on Stage

Jessica Simpson’s weight is of no importance to me. She finally looks like a normal non-celebrity woman. But she has melted down a bit too often for my tastes. Doesn’t anyone remember that her performance for The Kennedy Honors had to be re-recorded (at the urgent insistence of her father/manager) in order to prevent shaming herself during the televised version? She didn’t remember her song’s lyrics then either. And there was a benefit in Texas last year where the same thing happened. It is her CHOSEN job to stay on point during a concert which the audience has paid for. When a non-entertainer messes up in his chosen job the people paying him FIRE him and that’s life for us normal folks. Instead of find it cute and announcing to her paying audience that she misses her boyfriend she should find it professional to know the words to the songs she plans to sing.

Anita, did you read the transcript to the end? No, you conveniently cut out the excerpt that serves your purpose. Matt Lauer finishes up his piece by pointing out that the President was NOT passing judgment on the singer but was reading the headline of the MAGAZINE which was passing judgment on the singer. And President Obama’s last 3 words “Yeah. Oh well.” directly commented on Matt Lauer mentioning that the President’s cover picture was cropped and overshadowed by the magazine’s judgment picture of the singer Jessica Simpson. Do you also use excerpts of The Bible to justify slavery in America?

Elaine, I deeply disagree. Abortion, like divorce, can be the saving grace of a woman’s life. I’m not sanctioning using abortion as a method of birth control (versus contraceptive) and I’m not speaking of scraping away an inconvenience. There are many reasons that a woman terminates her pregnancy.

Aren’t there any other Republican panelists available to Barbara Walters to sit among the ladies of “The View”? Other than being the sole panel member to offer differing opinions on a variety of subjects, I can’t see the point of keeping Elisabeth Hasselbeck on the show. Her immaturity in life experience is evident, not so much in the opinions that she holds but in the unyielding hold she has on her opinions. Elisabeth too often accuses her fellow panelists of not allowing her to make her points and it’s sounding more and more like the whining of an annoyingly spoiled child who will take her marbles and go home if you don’t let her play the game the way she wants to instead of the way the game is intended to be played. So go home, already Margaret (as in Dennis the Menace’s arch enemy)!

Singer Phoebe Snow Discusses Living Life After Daughter's Death

I’m corrected. Title is “I’m Your Girl”. Found a live performance where she is obviously singing to Valerie because she changes the lyrics ot “you’re my little girl” : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpZtspnHO9Y
