Whoopi Weighs in on Sarah Palin and Reader Comments on Her Obama Post!

I can’t believe that a pregnant 17 year old girl will be married… whatever! Those kids are being forced to wed because of the upcoming election. She is still in High School! What message are we sending high school girls? It is ok to have unprotected sex and give birth to child??? What about education? What about diseases? All children won’t be as fortunate as Palin’s daughter to have both parents in the household that will welcome that financial burden. Everyone’s household is different…I would want my daughter to enjoy her teens without worry about diapers, and child support. Geez

This elections is somewhat a repeat of 2004. This election will come down to Gays, religion, and abortion. I am not voting for those issues. I work for a big corporation, I have watch jobs within my company go overseas while many of my co-workers were laid off and are still unemployed. I am afraid of losing my job every day due to cheap labor overseas. I drive 45 minutes to work everyday and spend $140 dollars a week in gas. My home is almost in foreclosure and I will have to look for a place to live. I work two jobs and barely make ends meet. I have not had a raise in wages in years. I would rather have someone in office that will bring change then have the same 8 years of bull. Palin, scares me because she isn’t a single mom working 2 jobs with low wages…she is married with two decent incomes in her household. She doesn’t know what struggle is…She can’t not related to me. Just because we are women, she doesn’t have a clue about the average working woman. I am a college graduate with experience in my field and I get passed over for people that are unexperienced. I end up training them while they achieve big positions and raises. I care about my friends and family dying in a war that was started on false pretenses. I care about the hurricane that destroyed my grandparents home and barely received assistance from the government. I can care less about someone’s sexually orientation or religion…that isn’t my concern. My concern is how will I and my family survive. I just want to see change…whether it is a black man or not…I want things to change.

Judy Bachrach: What's Not to Like About Sarah Palin?

Sam, I found the story on dailykos.com Palin’s 12 hr flight was about judgment, not … by prius04 Sun Aug 31, 2008 at 11:24:18 AM PDT There are internet rumors about who really birthed Palin’s 5th child a few months ago. This diary is not about that, and that story does not belong on DailyKos. And to all those who placed that story, please be careful with the use of first names. We are not Republicans here. But to me, the bigger issue is the so called official story. The official story is the one that speaks volumes about Palin’s poor judgment, and her putting politics before family. * prius04’s diary :: :: * Gov. Palin left Alaska to attend a conference in Texas. She did this while 7 or 8 months pregnant. Some sources say 7, some say 8. This matters, though only a little. She flew to Texas carrying a Down’s syndrome baby. 1) Down’s syndrome babies often have special needs in the delivery room. You don’t want to deliver such a child on an airplane if at all possible. 2) It was her 5th pregnancy. Later pregnancies often progress rapidly. 3) And she was 43 or 44. This adds another complication though it probably wouldn’t contradict a long flight if you were earlier in your gestation. I doubt very much that ANY Obstetrician would give permission for such a 12 hour flight. Even for a very fit mother flying first class. I suspect she did not get permission and flew anyway. In any case, this decision, even with MD approval, showed questionable judgment and questionable priorities. But it gets worse. Her water broke in Texas. This usually results in contractions starting very soon afterwards, though not always. Remember, she has a Down’s baby and it’s her 5th pregnancy and she’s 43. She absolutely should have gone to the nearest hospital. Any other choice would be risky for the baby, and for herself for that matter. Instead, she got on a plane for a 12 hour flight. That’s right; she got on a plane for a 12 hour flight. Any Obstetrician who approved such a trip would be guilty of malpractice. And she was 43 years old. Any Obstetrician in America would have had a long conversation about the complexity of the situation she was in so don’t anyone dare suggest that maybe Gov Palin didn’t know all this. But it gets worse. There is not a single airline in America that would allow a woman this far along, who was more than likely ready to go into labor at any minute on that plane. So they could not have known. But it still gets worse. When she landed, she did not go to the nearest hospital, the hospital better equipped to handle a special needs delivery. Instead, she was driven 45 minutes to a smaller hospital. Don’t get me wrong, I think it commendable that this woman was governor while pregnant and I have no problem with her attention to this office and I feel that the father and siblings can do just fine with the provision of care for all involved. But when you have a special needs pregnancy, you MUST be willing to compromise. The cover story is that she made this flight because of some loyalty to having the child born in Alaska. Does anyone buy this? I think the more logical answer was that she knew that going to a Texas hospital might mean being stuck in Texas for a few days or a few weeks and she decided to risk it. She decided to risk it for her own political needs. To recap, getting on that plane to Texas showed poor judgment. Getting on that plane back showed horrible judgment. Simply horrible. And isn’t the only job – really – that the VP has is to be prepared to be the President? And isn’t the cornerstone of the job good judgment? People: this all happened 5 months ago. Not back in her foolish youth. We are supposed to care about Jennifer Flowers over and over, but something like this from 5 months ago is off limits? What she did in Texas to fly back to Alaska showed horrible disregard for her baby. Just horrible priorities. Just horrible judgment. And Judgment is what this election is all about. Now that I’ve said my piece, I do hope this topic gets picked up by the national Enquirer or some such. Sadly though, I think these kinds of stories only get picked up by that kind of media when it’s about Democrats. Rest assured, if Michelle had made decisions ANYTHING like this, we would all be hearing about it 24/7/365.

Role of the Vice President Duties The formal powers and role of the vice president are limited by the Constitution to becoming President in the event of the death or resignation of the President and acting as the presiding officer of the U.S. Senate. As President of the Senate, the Vice President has two primary duties: to cast a vote in the event of a Senate deadlock and to preside over and certify the official vote count of the U.S. Electoral College. The informal roles and functions of the Vice President depend on the specific relationship between the President and the Vice President, but often include drafter and spokesperson for the administration’s policy, as an adviser to the president, as Chairman of the Board of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), as a Member of the board of the Smithsonian Institution, and as a symbol of American concern or support. Their influence in this role depends almost entirely on the characteristics of the particular administration. Cheney, for instance, is widely regarded as one of George W. Bush’s closest confidantes. Al Gore was an important advisor to President Bill Clinton on matters of foreign policy and the environment. Often, Vice Presidents will take harder-line stands on issues to ensure the support of the party’s base while deflecting partisan criticism away from the President. Under the American system the President is both head of state and head of government, and the ceremonial duties of the former position are often delegated to the Vice President. They may meet with other heads of state or attend state funerals in other countries, at times when the administration wishes to demonstrate concern or support but cannot send the President himself. *** I don’t know if she is qualified to handle this…maybe Biden but not Palin.

The real question everyone needs to ask…If John McCain is in office and he dies, would you want a unexperienced woman running this country?????
